This was the band's (A-Studio) song from 1998, which never got a great release. Dimash did it to honor the band, who was backing vocalists for the whole festival. They are also from Kazakhstan, so he would have grown up hearing them. The ethnic glottal vibrato part near the end was done in a traditional (Kazakh/Turkic) funeral lament style, which applies both to the potentially doomed romance in the song and the lead singer of A-Studio that died a few years earlier.

This performance has been my absolute favorite..having 22 million views..its when Dimash was younger..still hungry for recognition..he was still humble..sensitive and courageous...but he has become more mainstream..has lost alot of his authenticity ..he has changed🎉
I think you may be mistaking his wanting to explore multiple genres for losing his authenticity....music is his lifeblood, his reason for being, and he wants to indulge in it in all forms. He has said this for years, which is how in the course of 3 weeks went from singing a duet with Placido Domingo to releasing a blues inspired video. I think most people have songs they prefer that he does, but you also must remember he is young and wants to play, and may not have found his niche (if he ever does). PS - this is also one of my favourites.
He's writing for himself now, he's not lost his authenticity, he's found it. He always said he didn't want people to focus on his vocal range but he's been stuck with composers who didn't want to do anything but focus on it. If you go back as far as War and Peace you will see that everything he composed for himself has focused far more on vocal dynamics than exploiting his range or even in the Kazakh songs Renat Gaissan composed for him it's never been about his vocal range. Dimash has got to the level of fame where he can now sing what he wants, has confidence in his own compositions, he doesn't need people to exploit the thing that turned him into what many people called him "a circus act" He's far more than just a singer with a wide vocal range and I'm happy to see him finally doing exactly what he wants to do.
@nydiaholmes6164 This is a very odd and rather uninformed comment. He has never stopped being extremely humble, sensitive, and courageous, as you put it. He continues, as he has always done, to explore different kinds of music and compose complex and diverse music. El Amor Enti and Omir which he composed and were both released just last year are not at all pop or mainstream. Yes, his most recent release, When I’ve Got You is more of a commercial song, but it’s not a simple, vacuous pop song. It incorporates blues, R&B, rock, and pop, which is in keeping with Dimash’s desire to mix different genres into one song. That has never changed his entire career. His concerts are also a mix of songs of different genres because his fans are from all over the world and are of different ages so they like different kinds of music. I’m not sure you really know anything about Dimash.

That's just ridiculous, he's won so many prestigious awards in the last couple of years, been feted by politicians and the media alike and yet is still wandering around with no security, greeting fans and taking photos, being as down to earth as he ever was.
