Lara always called herself "songwriter with the voice". She is a songwriter first. She wrote or co-wrote almost all of her songs and you just can feel it when she sings. Not all singers/songwriters are like that. I like the smirk she has in this "naughty" version lol. I like Dimash's version too. Its true that it has different feel and that's why I like it.

Thanks Caleb for you reaction. I’ve never heard Lara sang this song before but have heard Dimash a few times. I’ve always thought Dimash is pretty dramatic in telling the story of the song. Now I see Lara is great too. I must say apart from being also a talented singer-songwriter, Lara does have the advantage with the language, which makes me think as long as Di is getting better with his English, there is nothing stopping him from taking over the rest of the world one day. Well done to both Di and Lara here.
The lyrics of the song were changed for Dimash as a male singing the song. I feel the differences are more of a masculine vs femine perspective. Another difference is one only gained by the experience of age. Dimash is my favorite singer today. There is no other voice I love more. He will be even greater as he continues to grow. His English still needs improvement which is also a barrier to understanding what he is singing when it is in English.

Они пели женский (Лара Фабиан) и мужской (Димаш) варианты. Музыка Крутого, а слова Лары Фабиан. Оба варианты великолепны. Мой любимый вариант записи Димаша Мадемуазель Хайд. На Димаша нужно смотреть, а не только слушать. ваш вариант неудачен из-за этого. А видео с Ларой Фабин было не только слышно, но и её видно. Lara's album "Mademoiselle Zhivago" included "Mademoiselle Hyde", all tracks written by Lara + Igor Krutoy, so she really "felt" the song, her haunting voice in this is just gorgeous. Dimash's version, w/Igor, he also"felt" the song, his powerful yet haunting voice made you "feel" the struggle within & is also gorgeous (prefer without stage drama). Loved both.

Что удивительно, одна песня, но такое впечатление, что Димаш поет совершенно другую и Лара другую, слушаются разные вещи, даже не могу обьяснить почему.

sometimes Dimash's techniques take me to a different planet altogether (Adagio, Sinful Passion, Love of Tired Swans etc), but sometimes the theatricals just become too much and get in the way of the feelings and emotions of the songs. This and his version of Daybreak by Han Hong are perfect examples. With Lara I feel that wickedness coming out of her from the second verse, I felt that part was sung by the "mlle Hyde" persona. With Han Hong, her version of Daybreak made me tear up every time I heard it, even though I couldn't fully understand the lyrics the first few times I heard it. Dimash's versions sound impressive, but i feel disconnected from the storytelling my first time seeing Dimash singing S.O.S - "wow he's CRAZY, what can't he do?" my first time seeing Lara singing Je Suis Malade - speechless, just completely absorbed into the performance, didn't want to distract myself with spotting details

I became a huge fan of Lara a little less than a year ago and I’m absolutely in love, not only with her voice but with her personality too. She’s extremely intelligent, kind and funny and her talent is just otherworldly. I don’t know if you know this but she had a 10 year classical training until the age of 19 I believe, and has been taken vocal lessons everyday ever since! Her voice has aged but she can still sing the same songs she started performing 25 years ago. Oh, also, she’s a songwriter and a composer. She has been involved in every single song, either by writing alone or co writing! Please react to her performance of “You’re not from here” from her “from Lara with love” show back in 2001. I think for Dimash there is a better version of him wearing a black suit and next to the white piano with Igor playing. That one is more engaging because the camera stays focused on him and the emotion of the song and the story telling comes through. But I love this song

I always enjoy your reactions and analyzes and I love Lara too but now I must disagree with you - Dimash is totally in the song he embodies the story perfectly...The song based the novel "Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde", and in the lyrics started with "....I am that kind of mind who's torn in two"...It expresses the suffering of a split personality as the two parts, good and evil, fights each other. When Dimash sings the role of the good part and wants to protect his loved one from himself (despite his longing), his voice is delicate, breathy. When the evil side prevails, his voice is more powerful, louder, and his facial expression is completely changed. If you listen to the lyrics carefully, you can hear and see how he alternates between the 2 roles and the adequate singing styles in parallel. He plays with the dynamics and the placements very well. Lara's is beautiful. It's her song, so of course it's gorgeous. But Dimash's power gets to me, I love his masculine vibe, and here, it's dark and thrilling.
This performance of Dimash was great but to your point of embodiment of the meaning of the song, there is a different performance that is far more like Lara's in terms of embodying the spirit of the song.

In such a big stadium you can't see his facial expressions and intensity. Take a look at the version with Igor Krutoy at the piano, with the exact background and orchestra. His facial expressions are so intense. He shows such personality changes with each change in the lyrics. You will be so amazed at his ability to change from manic to depressive (jeckell hyde). So much better than Fabian, imo.
That one it is not the best version on Dimash because the stadium and the way the video was made. Like you say, the version with the piano and Igor kills anybody. I really love this song on Dimash even I know Lara is great too.

In case the origin of this song is not clear, it is from the 2010 Lara Fabian album "Mademoiselle Zhivago," with all of the songs (including this one) written by Igor Krutoy (music) and Lara Fabian (lyrics).
The main difference between the two as far as the performance per se is concerned is that Dimash is singing live here and Lara is lipsyncing. But that's not even her "fault" or decision. That was an Igor Kutoy event and many of his events don't feature live singing (which is quite common in Russia anyway). Also Dimash had to lipsync at some events Krutoy was involved in.

Actually, the song is based on the novel The strange story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. That's why the male version of this song looks more organic to me. Lara is amazing, but I prefer Dimash's version, only in a different, more intimate setting, in a studio or hall. The performance at the open-air stadium stole the atmosphere a bit. Btw the reason I chose this one is 1) I couldn't watch it before reacting so that made it hard and 2) Some for the other performances were from sources that have blocked my videos in the past. When a video gets blocked it can really hurt a channel so that made with tricky.
In this Dimash video he holds a microphone! The best video for him, is his first...a small venue and lots of body and facial language to go with the story. He wears a black tux and Igor plays a white piano! It gVe me chills and more chills from the first! Much more dramatic! Love Lara too and she loves Dimash!
This story is the superclassic book DR Jekyll & Mr Hyde. His inner struggle with his evil and good side. And here they have added to the story how he meets a woman who becomes miss/mademasell Hyde (maybe thats in the book aswell, don't remember). So its NOT a feminin story/energy to be told. It's a male story.

I listened to Lara after hearing Dimash. So I always related this to a man...fighting it out with a dark nature within him, a thirst to do something bad that the man didn't wish to. So Lara's didn't sound like provocation to me. But she is a fantastic artist, no wonder Dimash worships her.

When I was in deep despair, it was Dimash's songs that helped me through. For me, Dimash sings with more soul but I wouldn't write a nonsensical thing like he sings with more soul than another singer.
