I bought one of these on impulse at a local shop. Really great model. Have been thinking about fitting a chip so this vid was very welcome, Jenny.

This was pretty prototypical of the 88SD. The rear windows were very often left without glass, so got filled in with cardboard in the winter.

Another great looking industrial diesel shunter. I am excited to see if they release any of the other exciting liveries as seen on the larger 0 gauge Accurascale models.

Dimensionally, this looks very similar to the Ruston 165 we recently helped Lawrie Rose save from the scrap yard. I wonder how feasible it might be for Hornby to model that loco using the tooling from this 88DS. It would be nice to see a model of that 165 once it has been fully restored and is active at its new heritage railway home. Nice and informative review, as usual.

I like that yellow livery. Like a few people I’m sure, I really like the Rustons thanks to Lawrie. I would like to get one some day for my planned micro layout. And I had no idea about the buffer grease, that’s quite innovative.

It’s a great looking little locomotive!! I’d love to see it on the rails, complete with a short engineering train.

I have already looked at a review before this one and I must say your example has a better degree of painting. I do not understand why the rear windows are blanked out. It is a Shunter Locomotive and surely needs all-round vision. Martin. (Thailand)

Some weren't specified with glass rear windows. Some buyers opted not to fit them for cost reasons. They blocked these windows when the loco was stored for security reasons and to help stop the cab controls being damaged by the UK weather.

Is that the Ruston SD48, or is it an 88SD?
