What I love about nick barker is how he plays on the absolute front end of the beat, which means he’s more likely to rush than to drag. That’s what you want in a metal drummer.
+jamdwhi No click needed when you have guys of this caliber (though Barker may still have been using one - usually only the drummer does anyway). Plus WOA has some of the best sound crew of any of the major festivals. That's half the battle.
@@traitorbass You're a lucky guy. I envy you. Nick is my favorite drummer and idol since I was 17. I wear a bold head an his beard style since 18 years. lol
Damn they used to be good. Headlining on the mainstage, in one of the biggest, most popular metal fest in the world. Atleast 60000 people watching. Shit... Nowdays they're playing in bright daylight and not on mainstage. Such a shame...
Definately the best dimmu ; nic also played in cradle - cruelty and the beast ; i always thought these 2 albums had similaritys , both the respective bands best lineups , great era
You can clearly see the red ddrum (brand name, not a typo) triggers on the rims of his drums. I'm not someone who thinks triggers are "cheating" but to say he wasn't using a module(computer) with samples(prerecorded drums) is incorrect. None of that takes away from the fact that he is a phenomenal drummer.
Love the old stuff for sure. Nicholas Barker is one of the BEST! The current evolution is great but I hope record 11 is better than Eonian! Forces of Northern Light is one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
No bullshit nostalgia but this is the true Dimmu borgir, the best line up ever, and Nick Barker, what monster on drums this guy is on of the drums gods
Una maquinaria demoledora, que tiempos aquellos con ellos representando al Black Metal Europeo y Cannibal corpse representando al Death Americano, la mejor alineación en su historia.
Unpopular opinion: I actually prefer Galder’s solos to Astennu’s... I know that Astennu’s were fast, complex, and awesomely technical, and I appreciate what a skilled guitar player can pull that off, but Galder’s talent lies in simpler but catchy and memorable solos and riffs like this one or the famous riff from Vredysbyrd. In my opinion that type of lead guitar playing suits Dimmu more because of the symphonic/cinematic element of their sound already taking up so much space. Anyone else feel the same?
Absolutely, his work in Old Man's Child is also worth to check out: In Defiance of Existence, Vermin and Pagan Prosperity are just pure awesomeness. I think Galder is the John Frusciante of black metal haha
Nah disagree. Astennu is a god on guitar and Galder can't play his solos worth a shit. Always cringe when they play SBD material. You know Galder will fuck it up.
Yeah, Astennu had some wicked solos. Spiritual Black Dimension is a very underrated album, and The Insight and the Catharsis is the best Dimmu Borgir song ever.
I agree with u! Astennu suited their sound way better compared to Galder who joined. Also I appreciate Sir Barker, but I really enjoyed Tjodalv's drumstyle a lot.
