Ding and Selby play a very different game. Ding's game is all about scoring and break building. Selby doesn't play to a standard Ding can. He never kills off the frames in one visit. Watching the final, Selby scores 30-40 or even 50 points but never wins the frames from there. It's his safety play that gets him the frames. You always expect Ding to win the frame in one visit, he tries and even does it. He is lovely to watch when he is amongst them. Immaculate cue ball control. Don't get me wrong Ding can compete with Selby in the safety department It's just he doesn't want to. Selby doesn't mind playing for snookers for one hour. Ding has had his bad session. Ding must outscore Selby in order to win it.
lets hope things continue to look up this year! i agree with you completely; this year, however, Ding is matching and outcompeting Selby at his own game. But we can be sure that Selby will come back strong tomorrow and show why he's world no. 1. However, Ding seems a completely different player this year.
to my mind Ronnie was awesome for not only playing very well at that tournament, but also for being that kind and giving a supportive hug to very young and talented player
Well done for winning the Masters! People shouldn't underestimate the courage it must take to come from another country, set up here and then become a winner. Top bloke and will be world champion one day soon I have no doubt.
In fact, that tears dropped because he claimed that he was insulted by one man of the audiences "Go Home to China!" and he was too young to face it alone.
He showed he's man with genuine emotion. I think he should be really proud of what he's achieved for such a young man. Ronnie as usual responded to the situation admirably prooving he is not just an amazing snooker player but a descent person aswell. Ding dong merrily away..
Hes just a kid (still) and this was when he started to play the every tournament in the calendar. He is thousands of miles away from his family...of course emotion will get to him. Give him a break
i thing ding has recovered from that final. the last season rebuilt his confidence and i believe that many more wins for ding will come this season. he has immense talent an by reaching the gp final three weeks ago he proved to himself that he is still able to beat top players and play very good snooker. in my opinion ding will become nr 1 in two or three years.
I hope he wins the World Champonship soon. Wonderful people who embrace snooker. I think the next Ronnie will be from shores else where. How wonderful to see snooker a world wide sport.
i went to this game live and ur right there was a lot of shouting. the fact is this venue is in central london and the final is always rowdy so no complaints really on that front. neverless its probably a good thing that ding cant speak english. there were just as many chinese people at the arena and i speak chinese and was glad to hear them giving him tons of support. he was defeated before the session even started. shame really cause it had the ingredients of a classic final
I said he is almost half way there, I never stated that he was. We haven't seen much of Ding yet bc he just appeared recently therefore it is still too early to have any statement whether he is a winning machine/all time great or not. But if we look at the big picture it is a good start for him - actually for anyone, even you have to admit that. I don't want to jump to fast statement as you. So it goes for both you and I to wait patiently to see how far he can come. Because he has potential.
He couldnt cope with the pressure, shame really. He still has not shaken off the punishing defeat at the hands of Ronnie. Hendry has his place as the greatest of all time. He has nothing left to prove, Ding still has lots to prove.
He never got over this Ronnie was there to support him Ronnie said when I retire I will coach you sad to see this. Ding was very upset here Ronnie felt for Ding
i dont think ding has ever recovered from this,i watched this match and o sullivan was at his very best and i do think ronnie was genuine in his gesture toward ding well done ronnie.
I remember watching this when I was 11.He beat Ronnie last night 13 - 10. Love watching Ding. Currently 2 for 2 vs Selby. Best of 33. Should be a great showdown. 👍🏼👍🏼
I was really sorry for Ding back then, but it was just one match! If he wants to be great he has to learn how to lose from time to time. But let's hope he'll do that with the time, because the kid's got great potential!
i think he deserves the top rank no1 not sure, would be a huge delite to see him be the first person from china to win the world champs would be awesome to see another ronnie vs ding match
Ronnie's always had a soft spot for Ding and recognised the kid was suffering from a hostile crowd. Ronnie showed a lot of class to console the lad in the end.
he didnt cry because he lost, but because he had the entire audience against him and there were some very provocative/stupid fans there he was still a kid...hope he will be better
@Confuciuszek Stephen Hendry has an interview where he explains what happened. Being in a an another country + being brutally outplayed for the first in his career + being battered by the crowd. Hendry said that playing in the wembley arena against Ronnie and Jimmy White was brutal for him to.
For all the criticism O'Sullivan receives, all one has to do is watch this video from 2:38, particularly at 2:55 to know that Ronnie O'sullivan really is a thoroughly decent and loving person. Enough said, just watch the video...
i saw this match....the crowd wasnt helping. poor ding. Ronnie was pawning him all the way but ronnie still have that respectable attitude towards ding when he saw ding in the brink of breaking down.
You know why Ding cry? He won a wildcard in qualifying event in 2007 Master, and he literally killed all the seeded players till the finals, that was an incredible effort for a 19-year old kid, consider Masters as one of the most prestigious event in history, and Rocket just owned him, who won't cry lol...
@kappapp12321 Some people said that it was because Ding wasn't as good as o'sullivan and he fail 5 frames in one session But other people said that O'sullivan's fans started to whistle on Ding Junhui etc. In my opinion this second version is more likely. Ronnie has behaved very good.
Well, didn't look that bad. How can this be the end of Ding? If you clearly follow the ranking titles, Ding will be ranked up right above Stephen Hendry. I'll say he has a bright future to look ahead considering his young age. As for Robertson, he played really good tonight.
@skyflows23 erm actually what really happened with the crowd during this match? and emily made this video to wish him all the best in his career... i think u mistaken it
Yes, he still has lots to prove, but isn't he almost half way there already? As I have to repeat myself, he is ranked above Stephen Hendry now, and is one of the top 10 ranked as the worlds best. He is just a boy, still, and isn't it a part of what we call human to be emotional? So I see no shame, just a human with a little lack of manhood and yet to grow stronger.
I dont think he is half way there even. He is a great front runner, if the chips are down he tends to crack under the pressure. Perhaps he has had a little too much pressure put upon him. Hendry at his age was already a winning machine, Ding at 22 could not live with Hendry at 22. Simple fact. Ding will never be an all time great. He has no bottle it seems. It will be interesting to see how he copes if he reaches another final.
Keflar5 is right; O'Sullivan's fans shouted a lot of really reacist things at Ding. That's why Ding had a very though time in this match. O'Sullivan apologized to Ding on behalf of them and comforted him afterwards. He also compared Ding to the late Paul Hunter. You have no idea what it's like to experience racial abuse, it's a horrible thing. My husband is Chinese, so I know. This is a childish sing-song-video and I apologize to Ding if he ever have the misfortune of seeing it.
