Restaurant Batavia in Arnhem is delicious! worth travelling there to try the food. Great Indonesian atmosphere too. Whenever I'm in the Netherlands, I always go there.
i think its weird that people r commenting about the sate babi thingy (pork) i mean you can change it with lamb , goat , chicken or whatever they want duh -.- and i think its a proper price for food tho -.- you can spend around Rp1000.000,- for 3 people in an italian restaurants here in indonesia - - and the proportion of the meal is great comparing to italian or french proportions food with the same amount of money.
Indonesian food is considered cheap in the Netherlands, dont forget this is a restaurant. If you pick it up at your local toko its less expensive. between €7.50-12,50 you can pick a single person menu and its enough for either two persons or two days. Huge portions no exception! Going to the supermarket is the most economic way to get your food in the Netherlands.

I'm also Indonesian and I think that the 'spirit' of Nasi Rames is not about what kind of dishes served with the rice, but the fact that it's a variety of mixed dishes served with rice. The type of dishes don't really matter. It's just that the serving style is weird in Holland - they tend to treat every Indonesian food as 'rijsttafel' experience, which is not always correct.
The Rijsttafel brings all of the delicious food from all over Indonesia together. It’s a genius idea by the Dutch at that time and still very popular all over the world. The Rijsttafel is the culinary ambassador of Indonesia.
i was born in Indonesia, adopted, raised in Wash.,DC by Dutch parents. A'dam has the best Indonesian restaurants. this video is making me so hungry, there are NO Indonesian restaurants in DC. there was this one spot called Ivy's Place but it's shut down, boooo :(
there is none. either you cook yourself with "bamboe instant seasoning" (so many different flavors), or you need to expand your palate to the food from neighboring countries with some similarities in some degree of flavors. go to Columbia Heights for Laotian food (Thip Kao), or in Falls Church VA for Vietnamese (Eden Center). or, I tell you what .., Ethiopian food has a lot of similarities with Indonesian food although they are on different continents. go to U st (Habesha Market) and order some "gored-gored", "yebeg tibs" or anything spicy. the difference is Indonesian eat rice and Ethiopian eat injera (spongy bread made from teff).

(sauteed for 10 seconds). and Yebeg Tibs is well done chunks of lamb sauteed in jalapeno and tomatoes. or if you really want some Indonesian food, go to "New Dynasty Restaurant" on P and 21st (Behind Indonesian Embassy on Dupont Circle). it's a Chinese/Pan Asian Restaurant but they make pretty good Indonesian fried rice.
Yang makan nasi pakai sendok cuma orang Asia saja. Saya pribadi lebih suka pakai garpu, lebih mudah dan bisa pakai 1 tangan saja (bisa juga untuk menusuk daging)...
Lah sekarang logikanya kalo itu masakan dijual layaknya di Indonesia jelas tidak akan menguntungkan mas , karena itu makanan dijual di restaurant bukan di depot ataupun stan pinggir jalan ! Mata uang belanda kan jauh diatas indonesia nilainya Belum lagi buat biaya beli bahan baku serta membiayai pegawai , di Indonesia saja masakan rumahan yang dijual di restaurant denpasar yang banyak turis harganya lebih mahal dibandingkan masakan rumahan pada umumnya ! Jadi cukup wajar juga jika mereka menjual dengan harga seperti itu karena mereka juga sudah memperkirakan untung ruginya
