Majungasaurs were actually a genus of abelisaurids, which predominated in the southern hemisphere while theropods were more common in the northern hemisphere.

it wasnt the fact that it was taking the meat. It was most likely the other Majungasaurus showed aggression toward her offspring, so she reacted in defense of the baby. Course, then she realized the wounded animal could grant both her and the young fresh, much healthier, meat. So, she ended up finishing what she started in the first place

The male was already escaping and was no threat at all. Therefore, she was just not 'only' protecting her offspring, she also used him as extra food, even though she didn't really need it.

If any of you are confused, Majungasaurus was just a renaming of Majungatholus. The reason for the renaming of the taxon was due to the fact that it was an Abelisaur and not a marginocephalian as previously thought through observation of the odd bump on the cranium. Majungatholus was the original name because it was thought to have been a Pachycephalosaur, hence "tholus" which translates to "dome" in Ancient Greek. The species Majungasaurus crenatissimus is about 6-7 meters long and stands roughly 2.7 meters tall at the head. The cannibalism hypothesis was proposed through observation of the bite marks on some Majungasaurus remains which had denticle spacings that matched those of the species Majungasaurus crenatissimus almost exactly.

Absolute quality, it is shocking to see, and so harsh, but in reality this is what still happens today amongst animals, just on a smaller scale. So what dinosaur would win in a fight? T-Rex or Majungasaurus? :)
