Jeff said if you were into "Roller Coaster or zoo builders". But let us not forget about Zoo Tycoon with the Dinosaur Digs expansion pack. What an absolute masterpiece.
I played Dinosaur World a few weeks ago after going all in on the KS. It was fine but fell a little flat. Kind of a table hog and very mechanical. Dinosaur Island Rawr n’ Write on the other hand is my surprise hit of the year! Did everything for me that Dinosaur World did only faster and better in a crunchy roll and write. Loved it!
This was a great look over the series. Plus, I love comparison videos. Do you guys do comparison videos for other series or other similar/ often compared games?
This was great, thank you! I just bought Dino World on impulse. We only had the Dino Island base game previously (with fun printed little dino dudes) and I was wondering if I'd regret my impulsiveness. This helps my spirits.
Team Jamie for the pronounciation of Rawr n Write! Otherwise it would be spelled "roar". You can trust me, I'm a professional writer and therefore completely infallible of course ;) (I kid, I kid) We own all of them except Dino Island - Dino World is definitely the best, but the massiveness of it is tough. We are in a small living space right now and play on a fairly small table: to play Dino World, we have to pull up an Ikea laptop table and we roll the dice on our cat tree! And so we own Duelosaur Island for when we just want less set up time, and then Rawr n Write scratches more of a roll and write itch.
I've played all four with my wife and no worries about table space - Rawr was our all time winner. In World, I missed the specialists, the building powers were underwhelming, and it was a bit too long. Rawr boils down the best parts from all the games and adds a better polyomino park design to the mix. If they had made Rawr with an Ark Nova sort of board giving it the big game shine - I think it would be topping charts right now.
Rawr and Write and Dinosaur World are both so good. Dinosaur Island will be a little hard to get back to after playing the other two but it is still a great game. I still think I will keep it.
We played dino island first & then rawr and write. I want to try world as well, personally i am not interested in duelosaur because i think both of the other island games are fine at 2 players as you mentioned. Honestly we managed to play dino island 2 players on our smaller coffee table. Both justin and i are huge roll & write fans so we def had to pick rawr and write up & its the reason im ok with not buying island. The hexagon style of world is kind of a turn of for me & honestly i feel like its a similar enough gane to island, so again im in no rush to buy it. I loved hearing your comparisons for sure! - Rachael
Fantastic comparison video! And all beautiful games with great potential... but sadly, they were all more or less duds for me. Rawr 'n Write was my first experience, played at a friend's house and enjoyed it, but I generally gravitate away from games that involve drawing, so not a keeper for us. Then I tried Duelosaur Island, followed by Dinosaur Island, and I found them both to be kind of hollow feeling? I think it's the euro-ness of the games, despite the beautiful theming, and the end game triggers felt kind of abrupt and anticlimactic. Given all that, I'll probably give World a pass, especially with the extra ding against it being such a table hog. Really wanted to like these more!
it has to be dinosaur island Roar and write. Because a) the if you remove the r it would be Raw. and cleary they are making a play on the word Roar. So it's raw'r and write. Besides that I have no idea what Rour even means. is that even a word?
