Amen. There's a world of difference between everyone having a good time, and some idiots jumping around because they expect to act like that, and ruining it for actual fans. Some of the best gigs I ever saw, I had my feet planted firmly in the same spot all night, and enjoyed every last note!
Words cannot explain how amazing i feel watching Mascis, Lou and Murph play, they are so badass together! And Mascis, man, i love seeing him play, it is amazing!
Hey man, I agree with you about the kids who just stand totally still at shows and don't appear to be enjoying themselves. Normally, I'm the exact opposite of them. But sometimes, a band is so good that I find myself mezmerized and can't do anything BUT stand totally still and just take every ounce of it in. Dinosaur Jr. is one of those bands to me.
Don't judge a book by its cover. Just because the people in front aren't jumping around like metal patients doesn't mean they're not into it. I automatically presume they're fans, for the simple fact that they're there in the first place. I don't move around much at shows either, and I can assure you that NOBODY is more into Dino Jr than I am.
Did you see at 4:59 J has his eyes closed and he hit his head on the microphone . J seldom shows emotion but he did smile (slighty) after hitting the MIC.
@drawrings I think those people at the front are actually a couple of young teenagers who wandered in to see what all the noise was about and were somewhat confused to find Gandalf spanking a plank very loudly. Probably not their sort of music.
I see what you're saying, but to a certain extent, the performers actually do like seeing some participation in the crowd, shows some appreciation for their tunes
Agreed, well said. I was at a Social Distortion concert once and was almost knocked out cold by some cloudserfing dipstick who fell elbow first into the back of my head. I didn't pay big bucks for THAT experience.
Personally, when I go to any concert to see any band/guitarist perform, I'm there to listen to the music, and watch each band member perform their songs, not do back flips or jump about like a baboon. To each his own I guess, but to me, I'm paying to SEE my favorite bands/artists perform. Why would you pay for a ticket for a concert where all you're going to do is jump around acting like a lunatic if you could just put on your favorite music at home, blast it and do the same for free?
@marcriganoskate: are you one of those mouth-breathers in the front? I think most heartedly you are! Those are the self-conscious individuals who think they are to cool to bob their heads, or have a good time. Now, back flips are arduous to do and are hard on the hands and lower back. I would not be an advocate of back flips at a Dinosaur Jr. (what a most boorish avowal from a mouth-breather!)
