Great video Robbie! Hey I have a question. What do you do when you Kale spikes? Do you just allow it to flower and continue to grow? Or do you cut back the flowers and prune? Mine is spiking now and it my partner thinks it's time to pull the plants and replant. The are 2 year olds so I they should be fine for a few more years. Anyone else who wants to provide feedback is likewise welcome. Thanks!!
you never over explain, ignore the meanies! Your just very thorough. When Gary plants in the ground, does he bury the compost and then plant on top of it, or does he use store bought soil? I have the bins going but was also going to try to plant in place also. Problem is, I have clay soil :(
Yes I love your enthusiasm also as everyone else has noted you make me want to listen to all of your videos no matter how short or long you're the type of person that everybody wishes was their neighbor or their sister LOL and you never over explained I'm a person of many words and I get lots of oh you talk so much thank you for all of your dedication 2 Gardening you really help a lot
I absolutely love your attitude! I get so mad at the pests during growing season and I really wish I could channel your tolerance! Thanks for spreading the positivity! Very entertaining!
It is too cold to overwinter here, but I brought in 2 kale plants last Fall and they are alive. I can put them outside in the Spring. They aren't exactly flourishing, but I have taken a few leaves and added them to my eggs for breakfast. Thanks for the video!
Chop some kale fry in butter and scramble eggs and have cheese biscuits or. Good bread. Oh Swiss chard would be mixed with baby spinach and have salad.if it a broke don’t fix it. I cook kale and collards together. I have had turnips to come back, a bit bitter but mix with mustard greens and baking soda and sliced bacon and fry stove cornbread and a filling lunch. Take your beaten and eaten up kale and let the chickens enjoy them.
New subscriber! Can you show how you plant it by a leaf? I have never seen that done. I had a dinosaur kale one summer that was surviving into December (Atlanta) and I pulled it out. I completely regret having done that now! Thanks for the video. Love your garden!!
Love your Happy videos, I cant find Dinosaur kale anywhere in my area Robbie, is there a place to order. Greens are the healthiest vegetable you can eat, God Bless
Hi, it turns out they are called Lacinto Kale i think. Because i bought some seeds at my local sprouts and on back of package it states "also known as dinosaur kale.
mine was labeled lacinato kale, aka dinosaur kale. google says it is also known as tuscan kale. it is very distinctive. when you see it, you know it is the same. it seems to be a lot more robust than other kales in my zone in the desert. other kales tend to die on me and i have to start more often. lacinato kale just goes. i clip if it looks ragged and it will regrow from the stem. it does like cooler temperatures better and has beautiful leaves in fall and spring, smaller leaves in late spring, summer. when the seed heads dry, i cut it back and it regrows leaves from the stems.
Robbie, always a pleasure to see what you have going on in your garden. You make it so much fun, who could/would not want to grow some! Everything looks so green. Thank you for taking the time to talk about this subject. I was so inspired by a previous video of yours about propagation of kale that when I cleaned up my walled garden, I took the top off of a kale plant and stuck it in the ground and I'll see in the spring if it has taken and will be growing. Have a lovely day! Catherine
Your Dinosaur Kale really is the size of a full grown dinosaur! Amazing! I love all the little baby dinosaurs, too. Thanks for suggesting Tulle to keep pests out. I'll give it a try.
Wow! I just love the way you do vegetable gardening, with kale. I am from Malaysia, been trying to grow dino kale for so long but unsuccessful thus far. Three times sowing but no germination. May be it doesn't like to grow in my country (Malaysia)
I tried planting kale on my balcony here in the south of Norway and lost it all to butterflies. I so want to do it again, but it will need a tuille tent for sure. Those buggers are NOT getting my kale again❗️ I would have loved trying this dino kale. I just love kale, but it is so expensive and I only get curly kale at the store. I wouldn’t be surprised if the dino kale could survive the winters on the balcony, maybe with a bubble plastic tent when real cold... Would have been so much fun...
I love your video and your kale! I'm trying to grow dinosaur kale too here in my country Malaysia. My third attempt, today I see some seeds sprouting, looks so tiny and fragile, but I am thrilled, hope some day my kale grows abundant like your, I've never tasted dinosaur kale..
Hi Robbie...I love your videos...I have never brought kale in for the winter but I will next year...I only bring in my little fig tree...I have sprouted in winter but much prefer greens...and l refuse to eat greens or tomatoes from the grocery store...so thanks again for another great tip...hi Gary ...hi puppies...Cara in Indiana
I have a few collard green plants & they are staying tiny. They look healthy & happy....but they seem to be like a bonsai version! The hummingbird mix of 4:1 is still a hit with the one red headed bird who has decided to stay for the winter. I change the feeder weekly & check it daily while he/she waits for me to shake the air bubbles out of the feeder! I love the sound they make.
Can we grow chard from stem? I just tired today. I bought some chard from the store, broke a piece off from bottom stalk and put it in a can of dirt. I don't know if it will work.
