If there was to be a post-game DLC or sequel, I would like to find out that Dion survived and took the throne of the empire. There is a lot to explore further since the world needs to rebuild. FF16 is an extremely somber and sorrowful game, so a sequel story about rebuilding and redemption could bring some much needed hope.

Agree. In a lot of ways this story is about human will and holding on to life. So they all dying doesn’t make sense. I can totally seeing all of them surviving. 1 Joshua comes back after Clive uses raise on him and goes to write the book alongside his brother 2 Clive promised Jill to comeback and there was a lot of clues as to why he survived And finally 3 Dion deserves to live and be able to rebuild the empire and the people he loved. He sent Terrence to save him and and the orphan girl ,so they definitely reunited and together rebuilt everything that was destroyed and help the people transition to a new era without magic.

Really like that you mentioned that line Clive says about not wanting to wake up. Probably one of my favs too. Really makes you feel for Dion. Life has become a waking nightmare

I do feel really sorry for Dion. He is a tragic character and his tragedy was never of his own fault. He was just a good man working within a corrupt system. Without all the political machinations that held him back, he would have been a great emperor and probably would have tried to bring peace.
@AlleywayJack
@AlleywayJack Год назад
Agree, that's one of the worst things - he would have been an excellent Emperor and almost certainly would have changed the world for the better like Elwin was attempting.

I really enjoyed this video! The words "My prince." will absolutely be seared into my soul. SO much was said in those two words alone in that scene.

I like this analysis. I agree that I think a big part of what makes Dion work is that while he doesn't have a huge role in the game, he feels like he's there exactly as much as he needs to be. His character arc feels complete, even if it isn't a happy one. Yet, there's enough room for speculation and I liked him well enough that I would be open to seeing more of him. I've mentioned that one of my personal gripes with FFXVI is how I feel the central role of Clive somewhat limits the ability of other characters to reach their full potential, but I don't believe that issue extends to Dion. While there is quite an apparent parallel with Clive in terms of their story arcs, Dion very much comes across as a character who exists for his own sake and is not held back by the need to fulfill a certain role in Clive's life/arc. His tragic story is entirely his own, and rather than appearing in the story for the purpose of having some profound impact on the protagonist or simply being an obstacle to overcome, he's someone whose fate happens to intersect with that of the protagonist for reasons not entirely in his control. His meeting with Joshua and Clive and decision to join them comes across as something more similar to games like FFIX or FFVI, where characters with their own stories and baggage come together to achieve a common goal. In any case, Dion definitely ended up being a big favorite of mine. Sometimes I find ultra-righteous and heroic characters to be dull, but I think the voice acting combined with the tragic twist of his arc made him stand out to me. I found it interesting as well that he had less presence in the marketing for the game than any of the other Dominants, and yet he turned out to be one of the most compelling and well-written of the bunch. I think it helps though that I didn't go in with any particular preconceptions about what to expect from him.

I can't wait for the lore book to come out in hopes to find more details about Dion. I suspect part of it has to be because Dion/Bahamut represents light, so that was taken into account when developing the characters. It's most likely that Dion wasn't in advertising because they wanted to let people experience the character themselves within the game. I'm kind of glad they didn't as well. Usually when corporations do stuff like that in advertising, it makes it seems like Dion being gay IS the thing you should buy the game for. I feel that kind of tactic cheapens characters cuz it just seems like corporate grandstanding checking off a box.
@AlleywayJack
@AlleywayJack Год назад
Yeah absolutely. I purposely avoided much trailers and build-up to FFXVI, but even now looking back to forum threads about what people assumed about Dion is interesting to see - he completely defied expectations for the most part and really stood out in the overall story. Even while playing I had no idea how his arc would pan out so I was really pleased how he slotted in organically with Clive and Joshua at the end. I agree about the ensemble nature of FFIX, and FFXVI was a bit of a weird one because it had elements of the ensemble style, but only with Clive, Dion and Joshua, the remaining (greater and lesser featured secondary characters), seemed to work in support of Clive rather than having their own arcs (like e.g. FFXV) . So it was an oddly hybrid game story.

Its funny that you mentioned Cecil and I dont disagree. However, the same struggles internally can also be said about Kain, which fits the Dragoon motif as well. Kain was trying to redeem himself at the end after the horrible things that he did.

Because of 16 i can now see Bahamut as being the light/holy element summon in future FF games going forward.

I really wished there would have been an epilogue scene with Dion ruling the New Sanbreque with Terence and their adopted daughter Fantastis character, and also very nice seeing so good gay rep in these games, it was about the damn time

Please Dion be alive and reunite with Terrence and the orphan girls since she has a good shot at being the Leviathan dominant

And our dude had a Kamehameha moment with Ultima Risen, bad ass lol Dude, I'd love to play as Bahamut in dlc. Dion is probably the character I most want to play as, Cid being a close second. A dlc could start with him recovering in Origin while the battle between Clive and Ultima is still happening. He could wake up and have to fight his way out before the crystal crumbles. I don't know, a thought. From there we could go into flash backs and other stuff. This is assuming he survived.
@AlleywayJack

Playing as Dion would be awesome I agree. I don't think it would be cheap to allow his survival, I really want some Dion DLC.

Lord, did I hate Annabelle. However, a credit to the writers for actually making me feel a sliver of sympathy for her before her suicide; that could've been more because of Joshua. However, it says something in a story that when a villain has suffered enough for their actions that you can actually start to feel something for them, as if, okay they paid enough can they either die in peace or something lol Benedikta showed this even more. I felt bad for her in the end, even as Ifrit burned her.

Related to this subject, was Olivier ever real? As in, was he ever a real person or was he always just some kind of flesh puppet or avatar of Ultima? I don't think he ever showed any actual human personality or emotion in the game. The whole thing with him and Annabella went in a direction I totally did not see coming. I at least expected them to last until the end of the game.
@Inukipachuki
@Inukipachuki Год назад
Olivier was a real human boy. I think when we first see him while Annabella and Kupta was talking, he was still human cuz we see the toy soldier's eyes glow blue. He just seemed like a weirdly sleepy boy during that time. lol
@AlleywayJack
@AlleywayJack Год назад
Not clarified to my knowledge. We know Ultima can shape-shift/cast illustions to some extent because of the weird Barnabus scene with his Mother... however since Olivier dies like an Akashic I assumed it was a real child that was essentially dead and inhabited by Ultima.
@fattiger6957
@fattiger6957 Год назад
@@AlleywayJack Since FF16 does contain some disturbing implications, in my head I wonder if Olivier was even the emperor's son or if he is some kind of spawn of Ultima. Particularly since Olivier is a dead ringer for Joshua as a child. So it makes me think if Annabella was either knowingly or unknowingly "impregnated" by Ultima using magical shennanigans and the boy never even had a soul to begin with.

Why the heck is the medicine girl speculated as leviathan. People are ridiculous lol.
@AlleywayJack
@AlleywayJack Год назад
Some forums are proposing the theory that the Eikon Mural seen in the game has the summons grouped in specific ways based on relationships (e.g. Ifrit with Phoenix), and in the mural Bahamut is with Leviathan (echoing Medicine Girl with Dion). The second reason is apparently her name 'Kihel' roots to 'kiel' which is an old norse world for gulf/bay of water. Bit of a reach, but who knows!
