I believe the magic to Dippin Dots is it they are made with liquid nitrogen and Frozen in an instant and that's what gives them their creamy texture that they are known for. This is just tiny ice balls.

This is honestly intended as a toy product. It's only intended to provide some play value for your child while providing a foodstuff that's intended to mimic the real thing. For a child, it's probably fine. For an adult, if you want real Dippin' Dots, you have to go them from an actual store.

Yeah, DipnDots are surprisingly complex to make, much more than most people would expect. But yes the liquid nitrogen is pretty much essential to make DipnDots. So making them at home is impossible without the machinery and access to liquid nitrogen.

The number one flaw of this is that this isn't a Dippin' Dots maker. It just makes tiny frozen juice ice cubes. It's essentially an ice pop maker. Every time I've had Dippin' Dots, it's been ice cream and not little mini ice pop balls. I've only encountered "Dippin' Dots" twice and both times were at theme parks.

The dippin dots that you get from the grocery store aren't even the real thing, though they aren't bad. Real dippn dots require temperatures below what a regular freezer can do as they're flash frozen with liquid nitrogen when they're made and require special freezers to store them.

There used to be retail outlets that you could go to to get the dippin dots but now there are vending machines that actually give you a cup of the pre-made product. My first thought was that there was no way it'd be even remotely close, especially because I think you'd need dry ice or something. It doesn't even really seem like a good activity for kids because you're guaranteed to make a sugary, sticky mess. Just use some ice cube trays to freeze your juice of choice and smash the cubes in a ziplock. Watching the moulds fill up is pretty satisfying though.

Well, kids need things to fiddle with for the experience of the product. The thing looks cheap because they didn’t want to really put a ton of thought into the shape or construction of the product, just the experience. Also, they use to have inside/sell flavor packets you could use for the product and resulting in a more creamy texture.

I had a sudden vivid memory return to me while watching this. When my brother and I were little kids, we loved Harry Potter, and our parents bought us this cauldron/alchemy candy maker kit thing. Basically, you poured different powders into plastic cauldrons and beakers while following instructions, and at the end you'd end up with a candy or something. In the end, I don't think a single one of the candies actually came out right. My parents just seemed frustrated by the end of it, and we never did try it again (they sold the powders to make more). This thing makes me think of that. Like the cauldron candy maker thing, this dippin dots maker is like 90/10 the parents doing all the work. From just trying to pour in the various liquids without making a mess, to storing all the dot trays in the freezer, to scraping them out of it. It feels like this would be incredibly fun for some little kids, but if it is so difficult and tedious for parents to do all the work, what's the point? In the end, I feel for the team who had to come up with this. It's such a fun design and you can tell they really tried to make it work. Even if they're glorified ice tray popsicles made into spoon-scoopable treats. This product was a challenge for them to make, and they really tried, despite the material budget working against them. Forgive me for making an unofficial supplementary review of Mr. Freakin's official one. But props to Mr. Freakin' for bringing back this long forgotten memory and making me want some dippin' dot for the first time since I was a kid. ...I don't even know if I have any still-open malls nearby anymore.

The 30 dollars comes from 1. It’s a brand 2. It use to come with a ton of flavor packets to last you a while. The flavor packets would be more creamy and not at all just frozen drinks. And they don’t sell this product anymore. Idk if he said it was the eBay price he paid or what it use to be? Because it was 30 dollars back then. My apologies if my reply comes off as rude. Dippin' Dots started as a project to make cryogenically frozen feed for animals before the realization came that if you made ice cream with it, it was really tasty. It requires storage at below -40 so specialized coolers are required. This is why you can't get them at grocery stores. All this is doing basically is making pebbles of ice.

I bet it wouldn't be too bad if you made an ice cream base (cream, milk, sugar) whip it up a little bit so it's fluffy but still runny and use that. Then it will be more like ice cream instead of ice cubes.

I don’t know if I’m the only one that noticed or not, but he complained about how difficult some of them came out but he also didn’t use the same technique lol So it’s not really that fair. I think the twisting helped as you can see the balls look lighter as they release from the sides also pushing on the back seems to have helped them pop out.

On Amazon UK this is £68 which is more than double the US price. Then again neither myself nor anyone I have spoken to knows what Dippin Dots are so it is probably a US import.

A proper dots maker would use something like dry ice to rapidly chill drops like how the real dots are made with liquid nitrogen

I've watched other reviews of this product and while it does mostly work, it's also messy and doesn't exactly give you true Dippin' Dots. It only provides a crude facsimile... as most toy versions are want to do. If you want the real thing, you have to go get it from a Dippin' Dots shop.

The only way it will be actual dippin dots is if you put melted ice cream in there. Dippin dots is created by thinly pouring ice cream mixture into basically liquid nitrogen.

Curious what would stop you from just pouring the liquid into the mold. Basically JUST using the molds and see if that works. If so, just buy a cheap mold and call it a day. Less space, less mess, less money.

I'd imagine that tray part is made in china. Looks exactly like my ice ball tray. Though smaller than that, same color though

Seems like too much trouble for frozen juice, I've never had dippin dots so don't know what they taste like but when I want a frozen treat I just get the frozen fruit in the freezer section, typically strawberry slices & pineapple chunks, very tasty, & healthier

I used to have the ICEE maker as a kid growing up. It was a lot more simple than this. I feel like this is a bit excessive with the outcome it gives.

Just give me an old fashioned popsicle maker. Same flavors, less fussy. Easier cleanup.

One never knows what they'll learn about watching this channel. Occasionally will see a gadget that's a newfangled variation on something else which is familiar. However, have never heard of, or seen, Dippin' Dots. Can see the appeal of the original, but a whole lotta effort, bit of a mess, with this contraption given the results. Really enjoy your highly entertaining reviews

I had three different jobs out here in Vegas before covid kit and one of them was stocking up all of our special freezers that had to be a lot colder than regular freezers in all the stores.. and we had to transport it in dry ice, so for everyone saying the stuff you get at stores and gas stations aren't real dippin' dots, you're wrong.

I'm going to guess ahead of time that the primary issue with the machine is it doesn't freeze them correctly. This based on the fact that Dippin' Dots are normally stored in the negative double digits.
