Man, John Illsley's bass sounds so good on this... that Ampeg stack.... looking at the badge on that, I think that amp couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 years old at the time... Legendary
At the very end - Mark says something about the sound quality (?) - 'It's murder playing out there'. Then - 'Another one?' Someone says re: doing an encore, then John Illsley (I think) says 'Don't wait too long'. David Knopfler says 'Are they making enough noise?'. Great stuff.
Ahh, Dire Straits when they were good. I loved every album (Making Movies is my favourite) until they came up with Brothers In Arms - I wasn't impressed. Knopfler abandoned his 'roots' but made a stack of money instead. Can't blame him really. I listened to it once, then got out my copy of Making Movies and listened to the magnificent 'Tunnel Of Love'. Ahhh, that's better........
Mark is so scrawny here, it's weird. Idk if he started lifting or just eating more or what. Look how well Mark and David seem to be getting along. I wonder if they really were. This is April 1979. Communiqué was released in June 1979. David left in August 1980. Very sad for the family that there is still a rupture.
No effects? He uses Delay, Reverbs, Choruses, Compressors, live and in the studio. Just a little gain for harmony and sustain but most of it is from his compressor effect. But he is clean in his playing and tone and very fluent with tons of unique articulations.
