The more I watch your videos the more I'm awed in how you guys do things efficiently. I would to see a video dedicated to all of equipment aboard your vessel. That hook you use to take the fish off hooks and all the winches and cables!!! I would also like to know who built your boat!! I am just so in awe. Luv your family dynamics.
Thanks Randy. The hook we use to shake fish is called a gaff. They come in different lengths and we also use them to pull halibut and cod onboard. Our vessel is a fiberglass hull built by Roberts in 74. We have done extensive upgrades over the years like adding the tophouse, aluminum bulwarks, rigging, replacing bulkheads and the decks.
Thank you guys and gal for the video of this. I appreciate the detail that you provide and the marketing discussion. It is refreshing to see your family hammering out a living together.
It's so cool to see the whole process from start to finish. Makes you appreciate not only the fish, but the people behind the fish market like yourselves. I've only had the pleasure of having halibut once and that was back in the 90's. I gotta get me some so i can have some halibut sushi and sashimi haha. Love your Crew / Family and how you present all this info to us viewers. Thanks for taking the time to bring us into your world. I appreciate you all. God Bless, Be Well and stay safe.
That is so cool to see a family of fishermen work together . I've got to get to work myself so I can buy some of your family's catch . Amazing info and I bet the catch will be even better on the table . Thank you
I love getting the whole fish at the restaurant and butchering ourselves. I caught a couple of 75 lber when I was in Alaska and had them shipped to us. Can't wait to come up there again. Thanks guys for sharing your process!!
Hey guys.Nice to see such a smart business group of fisherman. Self monitor numbers and young enough to know it will pay dividends in the future.Well done. Roger down in Vancouver.
I started watching your videos, and halibut is my favourite fish. Am so amazed how you catch them with proper care and you are so fun to watch. I will show this video to my husband. Take care and God bless you alwzys.
You should mark some of the fish that your viewers buy so they can actually see how their was caught and handled!! I think it would be a huge hit and most of us would be super excited to see the fish we ordered with that same marking or signature!
Absolutely beautiful up there I'll just visit in the summer I don't think I can handle all the snow love the videos I would love big old piece of fresh halibut
you guys should reach out to restarunts in the lower 48 and offer them your catch, farm to table restraunts love that stuff, you guys could benefit financially and they could have a superior product that they know is supporting a real family.... greetings from portland oregon
Nice, I love "direct to market" for the fisherman, farmer, baker.... Keep up the great work. I love halibut and love to catch my own... but when I can't fish I will sure put your link to buy on my list.
U should have the kid writing the weights down for ya so u can just grab the fish weight it tell the kid the weight toss it on to the next Saves from taking ur glove of 1k times lol. Nice fish guys
Love the vids...interested in how much they pay you per pound...here in western NY they rob us for 35$ a pound...that's why I haven't had halibut in 20 years..I refuse to pay that price...cod and haddock are about 12$ lb and 9$ lb if you buy 2lb at a time...
Great vid and insight as to the hard work you put in to catch these fish. You never mention how much you get paid for Halibut and the other fish you caught. The commercial place you dropped the fish off to loaded 4 nets worth. How much did they pay you before you deduct all your expenses for all those fish at todays current prices since you vid was 2 year ago? Thx
Nice to see your family working together. I wonder if the weight of the fish decreases or increases after putting them on ice. Are you putting up a contest for subscribers to have the chance to come and visit you there in Alaska? How can I register? I do want to buy halibut from you but I live in South Korea. I think you got a nice catch. I'm happy for you!
Hi Connie! Nope, the fish remain the same weight, ice and slime are taken into account on the paperwork side. Nope we haven't planned or talked about a contest like that so far. It's too bad we can't ship internationally. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
That's the idea behind it! Traceability of the product is a big bonus to our fish. The octopus we actually let go this time. We don't currently have a market for it, need to drum up some interest.
Does this get you better price on the fish if you do the offload yourself. Seems like a lot off work, than letting processing plant do. Or would you have to upload all that in the computer if you went to processing plant
Thanks Rodney. Great question. We do get a better price, because we are selling direct to the public. It is extra work, but it also allows us to remain a small fishing operation that is value based instead of relying on volume. The main difference is we retain ownership of our product (it is custom processed for us), as opposed to selling the fish to a processor and never seeing it or being involved in the distribution of it.
Randomly stumbled onto your videos. I think they’re great. Wondering if you guys are twins and who’s who as in first names? I’m a retired commercial fisherman from southern New Jersey and wish my ex boss was as calm and quiet as you two.
Hi J P. We are a family operation. Matt and Tristen (the tall ones) are our boys. My wife is Anita and I'm Len. We have worked together for so long, work gets done without having to give direction or tell each other what to do. We all just work together and it goes fast and done before we know it. Thank you for joining us, really glad you enjoy the videos.
Hello, Are your beach seine openings and areas different than the limit seine ones? Not familiar with them as we don't have beach seiners here in Southeast. Nice to see fishermen selling their own catch. ADFG needs to make it easier for direct sales to local restaurants, grocery stores, and residents. Live in fish country and you can't get good fresh fish to eat! Take care.
Thanks Douglas. I believe both beach and purse seine are treated the same. I don't recall any announcements that differentiated between them. There are only a few guys that beach seine here, we would see one in a bay every so often.
love the content. went to order some and it was 125.00 just to ship it to NJ . then the price of the fish. i never had it before so its hard to pull the trigger on an order
Thanks FireGuy! Most seafood retailers pad the price of shipping in the cost of the product. That's why it's common to see halibut at $25/ lb and up. Shipping is part of the cost and we prefer to sell our products at fair, reasonable prices and not hide shipping costs. Another thing to keep in mind is a large portion of halibut is frozen and carried over a year or more. If you ask your retailer where and when it was caught, who caught it and how the fish was cared for, you are unlikely to get an accurate answer. We are proud of the seafood we sell, and always strive to put out the best quality available.
Here from morocco nice team a d hardworker sailors wish be one of the team I would like to see what are you eating during fishing di you cook what you catch or you bring prepared food from home?
We clean them white side up and also habit. Back in the derby days, we would bled them and also ice them belly up. It kept any blood from pooling on the white-side, and presented a better product to the buyers.
They are both good eating. Halibut is a bit harder to cook because you can dry it out easily, cod is more forgiving and stays really moist, hard to mess it up.
Hi Jeff. Our website is eisalaska.com. You can order online there. We are pretty much out of cod and all out of rockfish ATM, but we will be fishing those in mid- late Febuary. Thanks and have a great New Year!
Hi Jeff, once we get more time we'll look into the logistics of shipping to Canada. For now, feel free to email sales@eisalaska.com and we'll add you to the mailing list for when we do get something in place.
So, am I missing the obvious? What is everyone's names? What are you relationships? Is the young man in the APU shirt the father, or brother of the tall young gentleman ? Enjoy each and every video, but who be who?!
Sorry about that, we've been meaning to get a channel intro video made. So blue sweatshirt guy is Len, my dad. Florescent raincoat is me, the oldest son. Orange raincoat is Tristen, the youngest son. And the one in the blue vest is Anita, my mom. Currently replying is Matt, but both me and my dad reply to comments. Thanks for the comment James!
We are getting the weights to grade the fish by size. Ex-vessel prices often go by splits, for halibut it is 10/20, 20/40 and 40 up. Each grade can have a different price. Also the process is pretty fast. It takes us about 45 minutes to weigh and tally 2000 pounds of halibut.
It looks like it would be more efficient to have 1 guy yank the fish, 1 guy weigh it and 1 guy write the weight. Is there a reason 2 guys are yanking the fish.
@@EISAlaska thank you 😊 one day, I would love to get out fishing... anyone do hand line (cod jigging & hali) with Norwegian Jigs... ahhh nothing beats you, a hand-line and 100# butt....
