Director Reacts - G-DRAGON - "COUP D'ETAT" MV 

This is not about others . Is not some fantasy movie. This is a revolution GD is performing on himself , is his evolution as an artist. He is moving on . The MV has a lot of references to his past albums . The apple tree is his album Shine a Light , the white mask with black tears is Heartbreaker album . There are lyrics from past songs including one from his debut at 13 as a rapper . This year a new revolution is expected as GD is confirmed to make a comeback.

This was not about a general revolution, even though I enjoyed your view on it, its about GD and his revolution changing the game, standing up for himself. The old guy throwing the stone is actually him, old version of him but when he manages to stand up and throw the rock he can finally be a new version of himself stronger, meaner. Having more people in the MV wouldn't make sense as this is about him being alone in dark scary places trying to stand up. Thanks for reacting ❤

GD was so ahead of his time! Such a talent!

Sorry for my English in advance, not my first language. The reason why there's not hundreds of them in the mv is because it's suppose to represent that GD is all alone against the world. The whole mv is about him being in the spotlight for years, having people and all the media looking at his life, over analyzing it, blaming him for the smallest mistakes Because that's what basically was and still is going on (the latest "drug" scandal is saying it all, accusing him of being under the influence when he's clearly not lol). That's why he's all alone surrounded by the blind journalists and fighting against prejudice

Basically this video about GD alone standing up against the very industry that created his persona and evolving from his old self. Hince the old man standing up to throw the stone against the wall. GD is literally breaking down the barriers between himself and the industry so he can change everything that he was and gain more creative control over his music and everything in his life.

The lyrics would have helped a lot in understanding the music video... Why it is only GD against the everything, a lot of the imagery, and why the song itself it so understated; all really make more sense if you have the lyrics in front of you. It is his, personal, coup d'etat, not any group or entity's... And I always felt the more understated/minimalistic music really plays well off the powerful and poetic lyrics, so as not to distract from them, making you sit and listen to his words and think about them without massive dramatic drops or anything to drown out or distract from his message. He actually does that quite a bit... Have the instrumental be rather simple but complimentary to the lyrics, so you focus more on them. That said, please feel welcome to react to more G-Dragon! He's an amazing artist, one of the greats, so I was very pleased that you reacted to this song as it is one of my favorites... along with Obsession/Nightmare and That XX, so please feel free to react to those two songs as well, they're.... haunting and mesmerizing in a way, especially Obsession, but only That XX has a music video of the two, so...

he talks about HIS own inner revolution, he says "it's MY coup d'etat".

This is all happening inside of him. The beginning states that the revolution is in your mind. There is a lot of symbolism in this mv. My favorite line in the song is, “If time is money, I’m so poor”. This was him releasing his past to move forward. The inner demon and duality is a common theme in his music. He constantly struggles to find balance. The juxtaposition of his public persona(G Dragon) and his private self(Kwon Jiyong). When you really study his work in order you start to see how it evolves all the way to his last EP “Kwon Ji Yong” being more stripped down and emotionally raw.

He is such a king and the song is a banger. Visuals on top

I know T.O.P (at the time) was also into surrealism and DADA (see his solo DOOM DADA), the artistic references may have influenced G-Dragon at the time (I have no idea, I'm not a huge follower of Big Bang or the individual members). Both of them obviously consider themselves artists beyond the KPOP industry, their reach were global and immense, especially G-Dragon (an understatement). Institutions have tried to bring him down, even with the recent media debacle, but he's too bloody savvy.

This is why I love coming to the comment sections. Being somewhat new to his backlog of music I did not know the references to past albums. So I take it that this coup d'etat is the changes he is making in his artistry. And yeah adding another one to my EYES portfolio. This is his revolution. Caged since his 13 years, as he has been on the spotlight, yet he has faced so much and wants to break from it all and just share his vision of the world beyond it all. Sadly in the military service he was harassed . Pictures, clothes, media about his live...broke him and little by little has been surfacing again.
