Director Reacts - RAIN - 'Rainism' MV 

The crazy thing is that all these years later, Rain is exactly the same. He looks the same, he sings the same, he moves the same. He hasn't aged at all! He's amazing!

Bi /Rain (Jung JiHoon is his real name) is a legend in the industry. "Rainism," which was released in 2008, is one of his most popular and well-known songs. This was his first release after leaving JYP Entertainment. It's one of several iconic songs of his. As an example of his impact on the industry, "Rainism" is so legendary that it's one of the most covered Kpop songs and dances. Almost every group has covered this song and/or dance in one way or another. This choreography is so iconic that pretty much everyone in Korea knows the dance. Also, if you haven't yet, you really need to see him perform "Rainism" live, there are dozens of live performances to choose from. Rain debuted as a soloist in 2002, but before that he debuted in 1998 as a member of the Kpop boy group Fanclub. Fanclub broke up after 3 or 4 years, which is why Rain became a solo artist. So, yes, Rain is one of the originators of Kpop, and he is still going strong even after more than 24 years in the industry. His most recent MV comeback was in 2017 with his song "Gang", but he has released collaboration songs, singles and EPs since then as well. And when not creating music, he is starring in movies and TV shows. As I think you can tell, he is also known for paving the way as a dancer. Everyone looks up to him and tries to emulate him. Many Idols, including Idols who aren't Korean and didn't grow up in Korea, cite Bi (Rain) as the reason they wanted to become a singer and dancer. For example, BamBam from GOT7 fell in love with being a performer when he was a little boy after his mom took him to a Bi concert in Thailand, and one of BamBam's first cover dance performances when he was around 10 or younger was to one of Bi's songs and dances. And even legendary idols like SHINee's Taemin list Bi among one of the artists who made him want to become a dancer and singer. Bi pretty much taught Taemin how to dance because Taemin first started copying Rain's dances when he was in elementary school as he watched Rain perform on TV. Rain got married in 2017 and has a little girl now, but he is still one of the most popular solo artists and Idols in the industry. He is also a very famous K-drama and movie actor. He even starred in one or two U.S. movies. He has been voted one of the most handsome and sexy men in the world, as well. He is one of the godfather's of Kpop and he is only 41 years old. (Just think, he is only a year older than Leeteuk and Heechul from the Kpop boy group Super Junior, and yet he debuted about 6 years before Super Junior, so that goes to show you how long he has been in the industry.) If you really want to see why he is a soloist and why he is so highly regarded for his singing and dancing, then you have to listen to more of his music and check out more of his MVs, a well as some of his live performances. There is a reason why he has been in the industry for more than two decades and is just as popular now, if not more so, than he was when he was a teenager. His voice is beautiful. I recommend checking out some of his other songs, such as "Hip Song" and "Raining," which also have really catchy and iconic dances to go with them. After years of bouncing around from company to company, Rain started his own company in 2015, fittingly named R.A.I.N. Company, and he debuted the company's first boy group Ciipher in 2021. Before that, Rain also produced the popular Kpop boy group MBLAQ after the group was formed as part of a trainee survival show in which Rain was a judge/mentor on.

He made his film debut after being cast by a famous Korean director whose performance was impressive, and was cast in the Hollywood movie Ninja Assassin. He is a pioneer of the early Hallyu and is still so hot.

I was already living in Korea and well ensconced in K-pop by the time Rain debuted. However, when I think of Rain, I think of his performance in my all-time favorite animation that later inspired a Wachowski siblings' film, Speed Racer. Susan Sarandon had praised Rain for his impressive work ethic on set as he applied his intense K-pop training regimen in singing and performing to his acting! I was disappointed in the film version when it was first in theaters, but after a re-watch years later, I thought it was epic! I also thought there should have been a sequal with Rain's character involved.
