The Kazakh instrument is a "KOBYZ", it is the old viol of the shamans. It is one of the oldest instruments of the Turco-Mongolian civilization. It is carved from a single block in walnut or birch and its 2 strings are made of horsehair. On the other hand, each people has its customs and in Russia, people do not get up to applaud. It is therefore not a lack of respect for Dimash because he is very well known and appreciated in Russia

He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that. The kobyz is a very old Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And Please react to another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for him at Dimash's request, Ave Maria. He performed this song on the same show as Stranger. If you know any of the many versions of this song, this is not one of them. But definitely a must if you want to hear an angel sing. Igor and Dimash always create music that has profound meaning. Sadly, millions of people are displaced around the world due to war and famine.

This was preformed in Russia they don’t believe in standing, they find it rude to block others, so they give flowers which he donates to nursing homes, hospitals, etc. also he sings plenty of songs where he does not go high and low and they are just as amazing. Dimash has the most INCREDIBLE voice i have ever heard. He trained in MANY different styles, his mother is a opera singer, his father is a singer and producer. Some people think Dimash is from a musical theatre background when in actuality nothing could be further from the truth. His vocal range, and his voice, is simply ASTONISHING. Have you heard his HIGHEST note? He sings a ACTUAL whistle note!!😲

I’m not a technical person but I hear all the time that it’s more impressive when he does low register than super high register because it’s harder to sing that low. We all know he can sing the highest notes a man can sing but the low notes is just as impressive.

Been listening to him since 2017 and never tire of all he does. There are plenty of songs with no acrobatics that are stunningly beautiful. Qaragym Ai for one. When you factor in how down to earth and humble he is you just not only love his music but you will seriously appreciate the man that he is.

What amazes me constantly is the quality he puts into his music, even songs that on the surface sound simple have unusual instruments or sounds that he's played with. At first listen you think oh anybody could sing that, it's not that special but you go back and listen again and notice more details until you're finally stunned by how he's constantly coming up with something different. I remember a long time ago a reactor listening to Fly Away and getting really excited. I couldn't understand as most reactors thought the song was good but fairly ordinary for Dimash. Apparently this guy had a background in EDM music and he explained that what Dimash had done was basically ripped apart EDM and rebuilt it from the ground up.

So glad you are continuing to check out Dimash. Not all of his songs go through his range. He has some anyone could probably sing. Just that he does it exceptionally. He also uses the highs and lows to express what he wants the listener to feel. So, it doesn’t get old as each song is different. If you want to listen to something more traditional in that he doesn’t move around his range so much. Try Couldn’t Leave an OST for a Chinese show or one of his newer songs Okay or Zhalyn.

Those instruments are ancient oriental strings and the yodeling in the middle is a singing technique popular in the Middle East and Persian music. That note was not Dimash D8. Listen to Dimash at Gakku concert. D8 shows up. It is considered a whistle register. Dolphins make that note! Other worldly.

New Wave is Igor's annual show for new singers to compete. Ever since Igor teamed up with Dimash he has had him attend every year just to entertain the audience! They have also debuted a number of new songs Igor has composed for Dimash, including this one! So much more to discover with Dimash ... he's never boring, sings each song in a different way at all his performances and he has so many genres, something for everyone from opera to pop/jazz/rock/folk / and even rap etc ... one of my personal faves is Adagio,, along with Samaltau which is also completely different from mainstream ... I love all kinds of music but get so tired of same type commercial Kpop/dance tunes lately

The flowers are the equivalent of a standing O and often they have to call for help getting the flowers which are then sent to hospitals, etc. Note that Dimash never fails to thank those who accompany him in a performance.

Dimash has trained for at least 3 hours a day since he was 5 years old. He is not only amazingly talented and trained, but he is perhaps the nicest, most loving, honorable and decent person in the world. It is this, as well as his vocal ability, that makes him so beloved of his fans (who he calls his "Dears.") He also is humble in so many ways. But music is his life, and has been since he was a toddler. If he seems too good to be true, well, he pretty much IS too good to be true--and yet, there he is, lifting people's spirits and even apparently causing people to come out of depression that had seemed never-ending. I am one of them. I cannot say it was Dimash who cured me of more than 50 years of depression, but since I first heard him sing, it is gone, and has not returned. I am now 81 and am free of depression that had plagued me for most of my adult life.

I can certify that it's not going to happen about getting tired about Dimash and his biggest he creates in his songs. In a way of course, the songs are similar, but really Dimash makes them different each time including covers. Do we normally look for our favorite artist to give us new stuff we love or similar stuff we love but used to?

Stranger is an epic song with touches of medieval, Gregorian and even a march together. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way” The gentleman playing the Kobyz is master Olzhas Qurmanbeck, the best player in Kazakhstan 🎻🔝 The Kobyz is the first stringed instrument ever. Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝

Great reaction. Dimash has always said that his range is just his tool and it's always depended on the call of the song. He has so many different "flavor" and "texture" of his voice that he is basically many singers in one body. You can't put Dimash in a box or define him by style. He is Dimash. He can sing everything and anything. By now, anyone who knows Dimash should not be shocked by what he does and how he does it, because with Dimash, we can only expect the unexpected. "New Wave" is five days music festival and competition for young artists held in Sochi, Russia annually by Maestro Igor Krutoy. Dimash is invited as guest artist since 2018, however he was also in jury panel in the competition in 2021. Sadly for last two years this festival is not held due to the war going on. The audience are really appreciative, culturally they don't show that like others western countries but they show it with bouquets of flowers and gifts

His talent is out of this world, his voice is truly God-given and he alone has this perfect gift.

It's important to point out how fit Dimash has to be to sing these songs. The perfect example of how exhausting it is, is to see Dimash's friend Cai Chengyu, when he was 21 years of age, sing "Grande More" with Ma Jia. Chengyu was gasping for air, at the end of a fairly short duet. Whereas the slightly older Ma Jia was, like Dimash... trained in breath control, but also old enough to physically be able to do it. Dimash disguises his version of "gasping for air" 😂 at the end of songs, so beautifully, you barely see it. But, it is the equivalent of an athlete. (He swims underwater to increase his lung capacity). You may be interested in the quirky Chinese Rock, Rap, Reggae, Pop, SynthPop, Electronic, Broadway, Ballad, Traditional Chinese singing... Hua Chenyu. Genius doesn't cover it. Try his "Nunchucks". His songs almost always have a very deep meaning. If you want a heartwrenching story, watch his cover of Daybreak. I'd suggest watching the video from Gloria Wu (where the meaning behind the song is explained). BUT.. but.. don't forget to also watch the 'Daybreak' performance from his Bastau 2017 concert!!! That one is my absolute favorite, especially once you know the story behind the song.
