I think I've watched this a hundred times now. Watching Prince re-arrange the molecular structure of the universe with his guitar never gets old.

In a room full of literal Rock and Roll gods, Prince comes from nowhere, melts everyone’s faces off and reminds the world that he was arguably the greatest musician of all time.

I'm a huge Prince fan, but I think what I like most about this performance is how happy Dhani is. Warms the heart.

⁠I’m 60 and they just don’t make music like we had. This is one of my favorites - hands down. Prince tears it apart and puts it back together masterfully. He KILLED it. He was a genius and a legend. Gone far far too soon.

When Eric Clapton was asked at the time, “what’s it like to be the world’s best living guitarist”. He replied “I don’t know, you had better go and ask Prince”

I’ve always loved how this was shot, with Petty, Lynne, Winwood, and Dhani getting the coverage for the first half; never really showing Prince (outright hiding him in shadows a few times), then all of a sudden putting him camera center for much of the 2nd half, unleashing him like a hidden weapon. It was brilliant

Even more amazing and brilliant when you read about the lead up to the solo. Prince not really practicing with the band beforehand, Dhani noticing that he was holding back in rehearsal, but knowing something exciting was going to happen. Prince just telling everyone not to worry it will be fine, and he absolutely delivers a solo that no one until then had expected or heard. This and his Super Bowl in the rain performance, unbelievable!

Now THIS is the greatest guitarist of all time. Bloody remarkable.

The way he finishes, tosses the guitar in the air, then walks off the stage is pure Rock Star energy.

Dhani is the spitting image of George, Tom has the perfect voice for this song, Jeff has perfect control over the guitar runs and Prince show why he was arguably on of the greatest guitarists of all time. Fantastic performance.

Prince didn't make that guitar gently weep, instead he made his guitar have a full on mental breakdown sob that it will never come back quite right from. Absolutely perfect performance by an amazing group of talented artists.

What a class act Prince was. Waiting in the shadows to not garner too much attention, then coming out and killing it. I like him and Tom Petty riffing off of each other, Dhani obviously ecstatic to watch, and how he throws the guitar and just struts off stage. Never knew he was so good at guitar.

Marc Mann deserves to be in the credits here too. He is incredible on the lead. And Prince was just supernatural.

One of the great moments in Rock history! I'll just add to all the great comments that I get such a chuckle out of watching how it takes all the other luminaries a while before they realize what Prince is doing! Not just taking a solo, but burning the effing house down! Does my old heart a world of good!

Any guitar player that does a trust fall while playing a solo is hands down the greatest of all time!

Prince definitely stole the show, but Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty sang beautifully, too. You could feel the love everybody on stage had for George.

I’ve watched this several times over the years, and I literally weep every time I do. There’s something ethereal, divine, and supremely sublime about that solo.

Legend says the guitar still orbits earth while it weeps remembering the moment Prince touched it.

Prince's soloing abilities are beyond this planet, Not many in his frequency.

When Prince, Morris and a lot of us first started out back in the 70s, Prince told me that he was the greatest guitar player alive. I laughed and told him he was insane. Over the years, he made me eat those words again and again. Prince was not only the greatest guitar player alive... he was the greatest, most accomplished musician that ever existed. No one could do what he did on so many instruments to the level he did it, then write, arrange and compose to the level he did. While my personal idol and choice for greatest musical icon will always be James Brown, I have to admit that even The Godfather of Soul couldn't do what Prince could. Prince was truly a GOD among men. RIP my friend.

I worked for Prince at Glam Slam LA. Saw him perform 6 times. One of the rarest talents ever. Amazing!

I've read somewhere that Prince wanted his performances on this night deleted off the internet. I am so very happy to come across this performance. This is by far the best solo I've ever heard. This shows how genius Prince was musically.

Jeff Beck passed today. I’m doing a deep dive on all my fave guitar players/solos songs. Prince steals the show. Like he did always. I love how he does what only he does then just throws his guitar up in the air. And walks away. Legends all of them. So grateful I can watch this a gazillion times.

Went to the Rock and Roll hall of fame. I listened to this in one of their theaters. The song and in Particular PRINCE was mesmerizing. I wad never a prince follower but his guitar playing was simple out of this world. Note: The ROck and Roll HOF should be on everyone's bucket list

To think that Prince and Tom Petty, two of the all-time greatest rock musicians, writers, singers and performers, would both succumb to unintentional drug overdoses is heart breaking. Petty is channeling George here and Prince gives one of the greatest solo performances ever.

Words are truly inadequate to describe Prince's guitar solo - and this was just one of his many talents. A truly one-of-a-kind human being.

The greatest compliment anyone could give this performance is that prince not only outshines some truly great musicians on this stage, but his solo puts Clapton’s solo in the shade. I can not think of how this can be bettered. A definition of how to both raise the bar and create history.

Oh, dear Prince. A light is missing in the world without you in it. What I love about this tribute is the respect paid to the original song and GH's vision of it. Prince doesnt make it his, he elevates it without ever losing respect for the original. It's beautiful. And yes, of course these are all incredible musicians . What an amazing performance!

it was amazing that night being part of this crowd I don't think we realised for one how great Prince's performance was at the time as we were all just drawn in by his ability to unite everyone through his spirit and talent, it was pure magic from one of the greatest to ever perform.....that's what I would have written I'd I was there ❤

I have watched this a hundred times, If you are feeling low, this magic, and indeed it is magic, makes you feel good again. Every musician on that set are extraordinary, yet Prince was cosmic, beyond what a mere mortal can achieve. I had the great fortune to watch him play live in front of an audience of 30 around1992. That was absolutely cosmic, he was 6 ft from us....

Prince, Tom Petty and SRV are keeping God awake.

I'm embarrassed and ashamed to say that I was not a Prince fan. Well, not until I saw this video. Then it was an orgy of taking his discography from the very first to the last, along with the feast of his live performances. What a force - he was just made of music.

I watch this every so often, just to watch a master display what can be done on a Telecaster. Prince and Tom, here honoring another beloved musician, felled by old age and the same pain reliever. Gone too soon, and we miss you both.
