I think Director era restored with vetrimaaran but peaked with LOKI. In early 80s Director era began with bharthiraja sir, Mahendran sir, balu Mahendra sir, balachander sir. Down the line it will get even more bigger. But we can't see another AK& Thalapathy with hard-core fan following. They are the last of it's kind.

I don't think so. I know many family audiences have been to cinemas to watch a film from a director. For Example during the release of I movie, there was many house full shows even after 2 weeks. At that time I thought it was weird for a Vikram movie getting a house full shows even after 2 weeks+ 260 crore box office( Vikram movies are great but he doesn't have great market like Rajini, Ajith and Vijay in 2015). It was at that point I realised that many people in 2015 when to watch this movie because of director Shankar who is known for his well-made Indian commercial movies that resonates with many family audience.

There was already a directors era in Tamil cinema in late 70s , 80s & early 90s. Directors like Bharathiraja, Maniratnam, Mahendran, Bharathiraja , Balu Mahendra had their own audience . From mid 90s and 2000s no director had become a dominant figure. Even Lokesh also does hero centric films only nothing special about him .

This youth is praising loki too much. Everybody knows loki is a very good director but nowadays he is missing to give the originality. Kaithi,maanagaram is a wonderful films which was given by loki because that 99% loki's film. But he didn't won even one award for managaram,kaithi. But he won 2 awards for master. Master couldn't have a ability to stand in front of kaithi and managaram in screenplay and casting wise. H.vinoth gives a wonderful film named theeran and sathurangavettai but we didn't know that person before directing nerkonda paarvai. And now we are praising vinoth for thunivu only and we forget to praise vinoth for his old films. And he didn't get any awards for the films. If he direct the sathurangavettai film with ajith or vijay instead of natraj it will be a great blockbuster and definitely vinoth get much recognition. And of course everyone needs a director depending industry.
