@@princesmith8008 Don't insult Kubrick by comparing him to Scorsese or Hitchcock. One literally depicted how things work in space before an actual human set afoot on the moon. He's not just respected by filmmakers but the entire scientific community when it comes to human evolution in art form. No Hitchcock or Scorsese film did it.
@pizzaparkerhotdogmaguire3225
@@princesmith8008 They're both the best of what they did, but keep in mind that what they did was very different. It's art vs. science. Hitchcock was a master of the ART of moviemaking. He grew up with the industry, and was already an old hand at it when silents gave way to talkies. His focus was on the plot - generally mystery and suspense -- and, like most great examples of the genres, his endings were necessarily free of ambiguities. But within that framework, he was still a master of mood and misdirection. Kubrick could be considered more of a master of the SCIENCE of moviemaking; nobody was even close to him technically, and he loved ambiguity. The combination of those two is the reason Kubrick films have so many conspiracy-like readings and explanations, and why people still argue over what each film "actually" represents. Because his films were so controlled, and cut from so many takes, EVERY SINGLE THING within the frame is likely put there on purpose -- it's up to the viewer to figure out why. Which, to me, is a lot of the fun of a Kubrick film. No one person has to be "the best" at something with so many facets. It's like trying to name who was the best painter or best musician or best writer. I love Kubrick films. I love Hitchcock movies.

@@pizzaparkerhotdogmaguire3225 How exactly am I insulting Kubrick by comparing him to Hitchcock and Scorsese??? Hitchcock and Scorsese (just like Kubrick) are known as one of the greatest directors of all time. "One literally depicted how things work is space before....." "No Hitchcock or Scorsese film did that" Yeah that's because they never even tried, neither of them wanted to go towards that path in the first place. They just simply weren't interested. Tell me, how many sci-fi movies does Hitchcock and Scorsese have in their filmographies?? Yeah, exactly. Both of them weren't even interested in that genre and those sort of movies. You wrote all those long paragraphs just to point out how these filmmakers are different to one another. Yeah, no shit. Obviously they're different. And all these differences (whether we talk about painters, musicians, writers or filmmakers) give rise to something called "preferences" which automatically leads to comparisons. I'm 40-something. I have seen like 4ish of Kubrik's 16 and like 2 of them I may have re-watched. This might be marketing y'all. Clock Work Orange is a family friendly film. Timeless. Totally ages well.

am I reading into things, or do they read their own qualities into him?

not that they're wrong, but they focus on the things they like, and that's ofc what they go for in their own works

Mine was A Clockwork Orange. Changed the way I saw movies forever after. Initiated my love affair with cinema.

Point to the doll Where did Stanley touch you ?

It's a shame Stanley slaughtered The Shinning, made Jack look like a lunatic from the beginning and thank God he didn't make Lord of the Rings back in the day when he wanted too. Gandalf would've been the bad guy and Saruman the good guy.

@@PlanR I'm going by the source material and in the book Jack is NOT the bad guy. Unlike the film.

Kubrick needed a diligent editor. everything is not genius.

Oh man, I saw 2001 in *2001* at the Cinerama in Seattle. It was shown right after 9/11 when influential people were randomly receiving poison in letters addressed to them. Sitting in front when the obelisk sound blared at the beginning gave me so much anxiety in that context! I kept imagining some terrorist with an RPG was going to walk into the back of the theater and blow us up for some reason. Definitely not the best timing for my first Kubrick experience! Haha
