What are your thoughts on a contract for any DirecTV service?
@DuvalRypr

Is Directv over internet worth it? I’m worried that the TV will greatly slow down other devices. It’s not uncommon in my house for someone to be on the Xbox, someone in the living room watching TV, cell phones connected to WiFi, and playing an MMO on PC all at the same time. I have Xfinity Blast internet and I have great internet but xfinity is pissing me off with my fluctuating bill. We want to add TV and are looking for the best deal and really the only 2 options in my area are Xfinity and AT&T. Wondering if I should add TV onto the internet I already have or make the switch to ATT fiber w/ Directv internet (we do NOT want satellite again…had a huge headache last time with it)

At least you have a couple of Internet options. If you switch to DirecTV stream there is no two year price lock and commitment. With DirecTV over Internet plan you do get the Gemini Air device option which is nice. If you go with DTV stream you can use any device. AT&T fiber is very good and many people wish they are able to get it. Go to the AT&T fiber forum and you'll see. We are fortunate here to have it and with using DirecTV stream and many devices there are rarely any issues. If you go with the 1GB plan it should work well with many devices. It also comes down to what you want to spend. I would imagine Xfinity has a bundle price but so you'll want to compare.

I really wouldn't mind a 2 year contract if the price is fair going into it. I did this with Comcast several years ago. In their case the contract didn't include sports fees so they went up occasionally. I eventually left them more so for their poor customer service. I couldn't understand half of them when talking over the phone.

DirecTV over the Internet offers a 2 year price lock but there are also penalties if you terminate that earlier. It can be $20 per month for each month left in the agreement. DirecTV stream at least offers more flexibility.

The Gemini remote is the reason a lot of us are looking at DTV over internet vs DTV stream. The Roku remote (even with voice) is very clunky with fewer buttons/capabilities. But is the additional $15/mo ARS plus 2 yr contracts worth it? To those of us used to the power of the remotes in the cable and u-verse world, it may be.
@CFL-TECH
@CFL-TECH 2 месяца назад
The Gemini remote is for sure better over most. You can purchase a Gemini Air for about $200 and use DirecTV stream. You will own the device as well and free yourself up from the $15/Month fee. I would only purchase it thru a reputable store. We picked one up on eBay and we got lucky there were no issues.

Thanks for demystifying the DirecTV over internet vs streaming conundrum. Can one purchase the Gemini (ARS) device outright, either from DTV or a third party? This would avoid a hefty $15/month.
@CFL-TECH
@CFL-TECH 10 месяцев назад
You're welcome! DirecTV doesn't seem to offer it to buy. The over internet service with the ARS fee is a device lease. You can buy a Gemini device online but it's limited and they're not cheap. It will cost at least $120. We did contact their customer support a little while back and they frown upon outside devices for the over Internet service and may not get the device activated unless you lease it. This is why DirecTV Stream has more flexibility to use your own devices, no commitment where you can pause service or cancel easily.

i'm so confused. more so than i was before. so. internet is "generic" where as streming is contractual? but, streaming is internet! i switched from sat to stream just last week. idk there was another option. so, i got the gemini air thing for both tvs. and a two yr contract. no gift card

Yeah we know DirecTV has been a confusing company over the years. The Directv Stream service does not require a 2 year agreement. You can bring your own device with DirecTV stream. There is a separate website for DirecTV stream that's linked in the video. Directv over the Internet or satellite does have the 2-year agreement, and also the ARS fees apply for the Gemini devices. Directv over the internet and DirecTV stream can be confusing because they both use the internet to stream the service. The website terms show the reward is for new customers only. Also it can take up to 6 weeks to be notified about the reward. You also need to have a 90-day activation period to be met. You may want to contact their support to find out if you are receiving the reward.

For the choice package, unless you just don't want a contract, I'm having a hard time seeing the value in going with the stream option, as it actually costs a few dollars more per month... Not including the 1 month sports package promo for stream. I fact, you even get gift cards under contract. What am I missing?
@CFL-TECH
@CFL-TECH 10 месяцев назад
With DirecTV Stream there is no two year commitment. Also you can use your own device such as a Roku without any advanced receiver fees. There are also no RSN Fees as there is with the over the Internet option. There is also a penalty should you leave before the 2 years is up for the over Internet version. Due to it being a bit more expensive per month and two year commitment for the over Internet option, this is why they're offering the gift card.
@stockgenie2067

@@CFL-TECH thanks for the response, and I agree with most of what you shared, but what I am seeing is that the Stream option has a higher monthly base price, which effectively has the price for the advanced receiver fee and RSN fees baked into the base price. It just isn't itemized but if you look at the Choice plan for stream and internet options, and look at total monthly price, the stream option is actually more expensive. This is in San Antonio market. Would love to hear your thoughts

Freddie Tech can understand it can be confusing. If you go to the DirecTV website in the links in the description, (not the stream link) then select the choice package. If you click on view details with all of the terms you may start to see the additional fees such as early termination. Two years is like an eternity in the streaming world with people wanting to switch because it's easy without two year agreements with just about every live TV service. It's $20 a month for each month left should one cancel. It is actually more per month for over Internet, not by a big amount. It's $115 plus tax and for Stream it's $108.99 plus tax. But you are tied to the 24 month agreement or there are early termination penalties. Scroll thru details small print to see 😉
@stevesalem2839
@stevesalem2839 5 месяцев назад
@@CFL-TECH isn't Stream costing $108.99 PLUS the additional $14.99 sports fee for a total of $123.98 (plus taxes)? If you look at the screenshot on your video, this is shown in the fine print below the introductory price. The $83.99 is for the first month, which was the $123.98 minus $25 promo credit and $14.99 sports credit (first month only). Second month would become $98.98, and then when that $25 promo ends, the price jumps up to $123.98/month. You wouldn't be bound by a contract, but then again, you'd be subject to rate increases, which DIRECTV historically does pretty regularly. At least with DIRECTV Over Internet, you'd have a contract but your price would be fixed, and as shown above, that price would be less than DIRECTV Stream without a contract as soon as those initial promos end.

There’s no justification for a TV streaming service to have contracts, to anyone using their own smart TV/devices. There’s no installer being sent out to wire anyone’s home. There’s no free/subsidized/leased device that the streaming company is providing.

Yes agreed! With two price increases this year it is keeping the honor as the most expensive. However, they know that they have the RSN's and it is expensive to carry them. Also their service may be the most reliable.

I have DirecTV over satellite and I agree it has been pretty reliable, albeit expensive. Is their streaming service reliable as well?
@CFL-TECH

@@danflaherty1132 Yes, the Direct TV Stream service is rather reliable. In fact, they may have some of the lowest down time of any service. At the time of this post that is. 😉

Thanks for pointing out the two very different options. Regarding pricing, as of now, the DIRECTV Over Internet looks cheaper. DIRECTV Over Internet with 2-year contract has monthly cost of $105.98 all-in ($75 Choice +$15 ARS +$15.99 sports) for 24 months, compared to DIRECTV Stream's cost of $123.98 monthly all-in ($108.99 Choice + $14.99 Sports) for no-contract. DIRECTV Stream has small discounts during first 1 to 3 months, but after discounts expire, the cost of DIRECTV Stream will be $18/month more than DIRECTV Over Internet. While there are termination fees with the DIRECTV Over Internet contract if you want to end early, on the other hand DIRECTV Stream without a contract has no guarantee that the price won't go up. And DIRECTV always increases their prices; I had DIRECTV Satellite (canceling now) and in 2023 the price increased twice by a total of $25/month.
@CFL-TECH
@CFL-TECH 5 месяцев назад
That's a nice breakdown of costs. Yeah not a bad idea to cancel the satellite service. With Direct stream there are no RSN fees and no ARS fee, so the price you see is what you pay aside from taxes. The Choice package is $108.95 reg price and you do get MLB Network and NFL Network and a few other top sports channels. Probably a fair amount of customers don't need to sports pack add on for $15 unless they want NFL Redzone, NHL Network and some others. At the time of the video there wasn't the $10 off for the Choice package for Direct TV over Internet. So yeah it is $105 with the ARS and RSN fees which comes in only $3 less than the Choice Plan for DTV stream. There is also less freedom to come and go as you please and you can't bring your own device with the over Internet plan. As you mentioned there are also early termination fees which can turn off some customers.
