DiResta: Mini Log Chest

Recently, I created the quite large "Hollow Log Treasure Chest." While I was working on this, I was envisioning the method to making a smaller version on the bandsaw. Here, you see me make the Mini Log Chest. I had to work within the limits of the band saw, with 6.25" cutting height. I kept it simple on the outside to use a secret hiding spot. Thank you, and enjoy!

To make the simplest of projects & edit the video & upload it takes time (could take a few hrs to a day for his bigger projects). Jimmy does all this for free. So anyone who complains they were not inspired should unsubscribe from his channel. Better yet, on your free time, replicate this project & edit it & upload it & then you will have an appreciation about how much time it really takes. Jimmy's videos are concise & show you everything you need to know to build something w/o any dialogue. That says a lot that any person from any country can just watch a video & learn how to make something. If you really watch the videos instead of just looking, there is a chance you will pick up a little nugget of inspiration or learn a new technique for building & fabricating. So thank you Jimmy for taking the time to make & share every project that you do.

There is a comment below that says this video isn't very inspiring. Well, I don't really do a lot of wood work and haven't got an electric sander or band saw, but after watching this I am very inspired to try and make a little log chest. It might take me some time and not look as good as the one in the video but what the hell :-) I subbed.

Excellent project. if you wanted to make a slightly larger one, chop the ends off before taking the middle out. Take the middle out by cutting log in half, then putting the log halves diagonally on the table saw (best to use a sled for this), Once done, re-attach your end bits :)

Great and really inspiring as usual, but if you´d made the hinge approx. 3 cm shorter, centered it and left some wood at the top and bottom the illusion would have been even better. It would take a more tedious approach though. To be fair speed and great use of tools is what you excel at, you get to a 98% done and dusted project, in no time!

That's a really well done job. It's a shame there's a seam running around the circumference of the log where you had to hollow it with the band-saw, but I suppose with this method there really wasn't much you could do. Might have to take a shot at making one of these soon. Thanks for the great idea! Much respect from a Gen-Y carpenter from Australia.
