seriously thanks for the overview. i will be waiting till the price is 20 or lower because i have dirt rally already and i love it. I'll see u guys in the monthly challenge!
Ok, I've had the game since friday. The core simulation of things is better than DR. - More weight to the cars. You can be alot more confident coming over crests at speed. The cars feel more planted. - Better FFB - Trickier braking - Tarmac feel much better than DR What I'm mostly concerned about is the grip on gravel. It's mostly noticeable when taking a RWD car to any of the gravel events. There is an immense understeer with RWD cars on gravel, and on throttle oversteer is almost non existant. The rear wheels just won't break loose, and if they do they grip the surface quickly again and sends you off the road in the opposite lock direction. However, driving around the paved/graveled Dirt Fish School feels alot better, and the RX cars behave absolutely brilliant. I'm speculating it's the rally gravel tire model or the gravel surface grip levels that needs to be tweaked in the rally locations. With the core things like suspension, aero modeling and such this can truly be an epic experience. It just needs some tweaks. Btw, all this has been reported by the community testers, CM are aware of what we think is right/wrong.
I wish they'd make it more like DiRT2 :( That game was amazing, and with the online modes, it had long lasting value. Looks like hardly any multiplayer options for DiRT4...
Dom Smith yes!!!! And variety of circuit and side by side racing with rallycross, land rush, and raid. They have never been able to get close to Dirt 2. And I'm not sure why. They hit the perfect formula, and then abandoned it
I think a couple of comments by the guy in the video are being taken oit of context here. Partly because he doesnt explain in proper detail what he means and partly because people are perhaps jumping to conclusions. 1) Firstly when he is driving at the Dirt School free play section, he says it is not as hard core as Dirt Rally because its a lot easier to drift and hes not a very good drifter. But what he fails to realise is that its easier to drift because they have improved the significantly flawed tarmac physics of Dirt Rally not because they made it easier! He mentions earlier about the better tarmac physics but he fails to put 2 and 2 together and ends up making a misleading comment about the game being not as hardcore. 2) Secondly he says that the tracks are bland and not as detailed as Dirt Rally because of a lack of trackside objects. But Dirt rally never had huge amounts of trackside objects (although it did in places) and I dont see that Dirt 4 is much different in this regard from what I have seen. 3) Thirdly he says its not as hardcore because the stages are smoother and not as bumpy and this is because they wanted everyone to be able to set good times. I dont thinkmthey would make the stages smoother to cater to beginers, its just not the kind of 'nerfed' approach I think they would take. Also, Im not sure there is a huge diference in track surface because Ive seen plenty of bumps like in Dirt 4 footage but I admit it seems there may be a little less bumpyness. This in my mind could just be an inherant part of making fictional stages as aposed to real life ones where they where able to measure every detail and then transfer it into the game with Dirt Rally. And remember some locations are going to be smoother than others and Greece had the most bumps in Dirt Rally but sadly is missing this time round and Michigan for example is never going to be as bumpy as this. D4 still looks like it has plenty of road surface detail and undulation to me and Ive heard a couple of people who've played it already seem to indicate this. But these are just my impressions based on what Ive seen or heard without actually playing it so far and I hope my observations turn out to be true!
Summary: - Dirt 4 sim handling feels better in many aspects compared to Dirt Rally, however lateral grip is higher than real life - Therefore it's really good as simcade physics, but disappointing if you expect an irl simulation - Graphics are decent and hold to 60fps well on a standard PS4 - Generated stages of course won't have as much detail as designed tracks, but are very good for a RNG track - Career mode has a fleshed out team building/progression aspect - Damage repair system is more realistic - There's now synchronous rally multiplayer using generated stages, so you could theoretically do events against people online instead of in career and progress that way
@ark13700 thanks for your comment here and for all your videos :) You said above "however lateral grip is higher than real life" are you also saying that the lateral grip is higher than it was in Dirt Rally? Or is it the same or even less than in Dirt Rally, ie "an improvement" as far as lateral grip goes?
I've seen enough to know that the Traction Control remains active on the AWD rally cars, even when you switched it off. The AWD rally cars wont power oversteer at all. The 01 impreza wont even do a god damned donut in the Dirtfish open area. The game has been dumbed down for the mass market of casual gamers. All the Hairpins are open hairpins too. No tight hairpins that require handbraking. At least the cars now behave like they have weight to them now. I always said Dirt rally wasnt a sim because it was like driving cars made of paper.
Hard for me to justify buying it when it has less content than dirt 2. Especially when it comes to landrush and rallycross. And they didn't include Raid vehicles!
This is very very disappointing. They have this awesome, unique stage generation tech, and what they do... take a step backwards. Would think the whole point of Gamer/Sim handling, is that you don't have to make compromises with the sim handling. Dirt Rally was already a bit too casual in certain areas. Can't express how disappointed I am, without using some very bad language
8 car garage? so you don't have owned cars shared between online and career anymore? cool how the facilities get upgraded but i wish there was somethign visual to see. would be all that much nicer and feel progressive.
No disrespect Kevin but I would love to hear Alan's oppinion on this. Hopefully he will make a video about how he feels about Dirt4 ... seems like everyone likes it but bemoans the lack of content, though.
I think this is going to be a pass for me to be honest lack of content the ai look the same as dirt rally and if its not as sim as it used to be then thats not good. Im gonna wait for pc2 to see what thats like cant wait to see more of it on this channel.
As a huge fan of Dirt 2: There's a serious lack of content in this iteration of the series. I guess that I'll wait until the "complete" version is released next year with all of the DLC included (or just wait until Dirt 5). I got burned with Dirt 3 with the way that the DLC was handled so I'm really hesitant to pick up Codies titles now even though I like their brand of arcade-sim handling.
Awesome effort 3 days to go and very hyped then E3 then august (F1 2017) then then OCTOBER ahhhhhh (Project Cars 2) and ( GT Sport) yay. Thank you Kevin , I'm not the best at rally games and dirt Rally I sucked lol ahhh I admit it but there so much fun loved Colin McRae Dirt and also bought WRC 5 on sale really like, and Loeb rally was slot of fun an I right Kev lol 😂. Not long to go yay thank you team oh podcast soon :) :)
The handling on the sim mode looks too arcade, like the cars have no weight... what the actual? all they had to do was to bring dirt rally handling model across
Mike Seeds From streams and videos I've seen from people who have gotten their hands on the game early, I've actually heard the exact opposite. They've all said the weight of the car is more apparent then Dirt Rally.
Don't mistake weight for grip. People have said the cars have a LOT more weight than Dirt Rally. They say the grip is also much too high currently which makes cars not slide very much.
The stages look generic, the layouts might be different but it all stages look the same. I know they are in the same area but so are DR's and yet there are little details that make the stages unique.
Well if that isn't some shit. Look so good with dynamic weather and all but If they don't sort out the handling phy...., I will stick with my dirt rally.
its very funny to see you guys arguing hahaha, oh come on, there are forza motorsport and there are forza horizon, one are sim and the other one are for fun, same goes to dirt rally and dirt series, if you want the sim version then wait for dirt rally 2 maybe, why complaining about dirt 4 not being a sim when it is not a game that build for a sim racer...... ayoooo stupid or what
Mike Solberg RU-vid makes it look less polished. From everyone who has played it, and who have it early, they say he graphics are very good. Unless you have played the game yourself and can speak about it as they can?
Eh, go play MXGP3 using unreal engine 4, it looks horrible. Dirt Rally looks better than that blurry mess. Dirt4 looks FAR better. EGO engine is good if a little dated in places.
martsum Hey, don't be hating too much, I'm looking forward to MXGP 3, mostly because there aren't really any other good motocross/supercross games out lol
