I just saw you posted your first video in 3 years, I want to thank you, I used your old videos to help me rebuild a 2004 CRF250R with no prior experience. The bike now starts in 2-3 kicks. You are awesome

Actually RU-vid is making me re upload all my vids. These vids took a lot of effort so it’s really tough to find time to do it all again for another bike. I’m still really active helping folks troubleshoot their bikes after 10 years. Thanks so much for the comment!

So does the arrow go to the front of the bike or to the back?

Usually points towards the exhaust (front) but check the instructions that come with the new piston to make sure.

for you, my friend, your video is very nice, I want to ask you, I have a crf 450 r 2008, the manufacturer says to change the piston and springs every 15 hours, I don't use it as a racer, and I've owned it twice and you can see the piston that it never has the thickness on the bottom side is 95.86 what should I do, change it

If it’s apart I would change it. Def don’t have to change piston every 15hrs unless you’re pro. Really depends on how you ride and how often you change your oil / oil quality. You can probably go another 5-6 years on a piston if you’re a casual rider. Valve clearance should be checked at least once or twice a season. Those bikes were hard on valves. Clean / oil airfilter every ride.

Is that a 3 groove piston?
@CoteMotorcycles

Has 3 ring lands if that’s what you’re asking.

@CoteMotorcycles yes that's what I was asking. Is there a benefit to this style piston vs oem 2 ring lands?

@@fxnytroxtxFPP2 ring are typically for 2 stokes. More rings allow earlier and consistent compression that help give 4 strokes more torque. Oil control ring also stops oil from getting in comp chamber. 2 strokes don’t matter cause they’re designed to make power at high rpm and don’t run an oil bath.

@CoteMotorcycles I have 2007 crf250r and it only has compression and oil rings = 2 grooves only on the piston. It seems the piston u put in has 2 compression and 1 oil rings?

@@fxnytroxtxFPPyou would never notice the difference between the two when riding it. Manufacturer has their reasons. Maybe in 07 honda wanted to try it or maybe they got a deal on a pile of pistons or maybe you have an aftermarket part.
