I pinched 3 tubes before watching this video! Thanks so much for posting this! You nailed it 100% when you mentioned the armature mistake of not filling up the tube just a little before hand!
"When you weigh like me, a small car" "Small bites people, works better, I should follow that advice at the dinner table" "Lube is good for tire changing, and other things" This guy has some Jokes.
Hay I am a novice and I really appreciate these videos I have learned so much from your videos and just want to say thank you....your helping a lot of people
Thanks To Steve and Biker Bandit . I have been ok at taking care of my bike . I recently purchased a 2012 kxf and wanted to step up the maintenance part of riding . these videos have helped a lot thanks
Andrew C Hey Andrew,Congrats on the new bike, and great to hear that you've been keeping up with your maintenance too. Thanks for the props on the videos and we're glad they're helping you out. We appreciate the support and your business. You remembered to subscribe to our channel, right? Ride safe out there.
I know I'm way behind and this video is almost 9 years old, but if you're still at BB, THANK YOU!! I change a lot of road tires and have a No Mar for that, but it's too much of a pain for dirt bike tires. I have the exact same stand as in this video, but I don't go through them enough to remember all the tricks. Technique is a big factor. This is the first time I've seen someone recommend standing the tire up on the floor and spooning it off. That was awesome!! Do not forget the valve stem wire puller thing. Haha. Anyway, my tire change wasnt "easy" but they were better than in the past. If I did more than one set every 6 or 8 months, I'd be way better!!
Im no expert but I've done a couple and I find grabbing the valve between your 1st and 2nd fingers like holding a cigarette but a closer the the finger nails with the tube on the upside of your hand works well, I make the gap a bit wider with my left hand and just push my valve cigarette deep into the gap curl my fingers a little and slot the valve in, takes seconds :)
Thats literally the only reason I was watching this is to try and find a better way of lining up the valve stem. I find if im really having a bitch of a time like with a stiff tire and heavy tube you can use the tire iron to pry BOTH sides of the bead to the outside of the rim. then your not fighting the bead trying to drop into center right where your valve stem goes.
Yep I chuckled then too! I find not too much air in the tube for that part then add a bit more once stem through rim. I'd love to hear anyone else's good way... ✌️
For anyone having trouble putting the tire back on like I did well do the dish soup trick he said it helps a ton, thanks BikeBandit for this video it help a lot
Thanks STEVE. I just changed my inner tube to fix a flat I got on the way home last night. Never done this before, it's a new DRZ 400. Your brew of dish soap and windex along with my new spoons, did the trick.
Thank You sir. I had not changed a new motocross tube in 40 years (I recently got back into riding) but I took on the challenge and got it done in one evening. Besides your information two things I learned. Once one side of the tire is opened, install the valve stem otherwise it will be harder to align and install later on. When installing the time on the rim, go down one side to get past the tire lock. The tire will be harder to install the remaining portion of a tire if you have to work in the area of the tire lock.
Hey steve, Can you make much more how to videos? I find your videos the most entertaining and you also have a sense of humor, which makes learning alot easier.
Just put a continental TKC80 on my Honda dominator and saved a few quid. No longer a tyre change virgin thanks to you Mr Bandit and some lube. Thanks for the helpful video.
Consider using the new tire (or an old tire) placed underneath the old tire/wheel as a cushion when jumping on the old tire to break the bead. It minimizes or eliminates contact of the disc/sprocket with the floor/ground.
In 16 years of riding dirtbikes I finally changed a tire on my own a few hours ago. The best tip I can give is to keep pressure on one side of the tire with a spoon while you're working with the other spoon on the other side. It really is that easy. And like Steve said, lube is key.
I just stuffed up a tyre change, pinched the bloody tube. Thought I'd watch your video for tips. Only consolation is that the tube I stuffed was a thin crap stock tube, so I now have an excuse to replace with a heavy duty tube. Good video, thanks mate :)
+Just another rider Hey JAR,Our pleasure helping you keep your bike in top running condition. Thanks for watching our videos and for the kind words. We appreciate your trust, your support, and your business. Ride safe! You're a subscriber to our channel, right?
I am tackling a 1980 Yamaha TT 500 rear wheel with bad spokes and an almost new "Old Tire" so It's a Beotch ! no matter how "lubed" I get it. I find a small bar clamp or "C" clamp to keep the tire pinched together and into the center groove helps to lessen the need to stretch the bead..
Best freakin "how to change a dirtbike tire" video on here. This guy makes that motocross tire look like it is made of silly putty. The Dunlop D606 DOT tires I run on my WR250R are way stiffer and about ten times more difficult to wrangle onto the rim. One last step I would suggest is to check your bead all the way around on both sides after you have it all mounted to make sure it seated properly. 1/10 times it won't seat right and I have to take my spoons and work the bead out around the edges
Thanks for the Video guys! I mess with car tires and I figured out the same machine is a bit harder than this way of doing things... Thanks again guys!
+dustin earley Hey DE,Glad you found the video helpful, and that fact that we saved you a couple bucks too. Win Win!Thanks for watching our videos. You remembered to subscribe to our channel, right?
Thanks for the laughs about taking smaller bites on the tire and at the dinner table, and how important lube is for tire changing and other things too. I have been changing tires for about 50 years, this is the way I used to do it for lots of years than I watched Jay Clark and did it his way, thinking of going back to your style. Thanks again!!!
1mnutz is crazy. Of course you put air in the tube first. Have you every had a bad tube? Nothing worse then putting on a tube that you thought was perfect just to find you have a leak. Great Videos, I've used your technique tor changing tires and it works perfectly. In cold climates where I live, I put the tires in front of a heater first before adding the lubricant. Thanks so much for the vids.
Had to watch this today while changing the rear tire on my 2001 honda xr200r I just bought. Pretty sure the old tire was original and super stuff. Had to use a cutoff wheel to saw the tire in half to get it off, there was just no prying it off. But once one side was off the other wasnt too bad. Got the new tire started, tube in and fought like crazy getting the valve stem through because the new tire is still quite stiff. Fought me the whole way and I'll be super lucky if I didnt pinch the tube. Guess I'll see if it still has air in the morning lol.
@Derek Gardin Unfortunatly the tube did pinch and lost air. I found out after getting the tire on that it had a date code from 2006 so despite being new it was older and explained why it was a bit stiff. Took it to my local shop and he got a tube in no issue since he has a proper stand and better tire spoons.
I too am new to changing tires. I tried this method today on my son CRF 150 and fell short today. I was able to put a new tire on the front rim but blew through the tube installing it. went to put air in it and heard a lit of air everywhere. the back tire came off easy. just like a bicycle would come off but putting the new tire baxk on... yeah didn't work well. my guess is I didn't have the proper length spoons or not enough lube on or both. anyways baxk to bringing the tires and rim baxk to the shop for now. like anything I guess I need more practice.
Getting ready to change my first tires on a 2002 Hondaxr100 r. Just rebuilt most of the bike, now the tires. What the heck is a tire lock/bead lock. Never heard of this; what does it do and does this type of small bike need one?
one thing I questioned was standing on the wheel brake disc down...risk of warping it? otherwise, made it look easy...I wonder about heating up the tire in the sun for a while...
haha yea i used to hate doing tires but ive done so many now they arent that hard anymore. the proper tools also really help make the whole thing easier
nice edit how long did it really take and how many times did he pinch the tube and how many times did the other spoon fly out? i do mine with a c clamp and beat the tire with rubber mallet until it seats and you definitely need to steal your kids bubble magic bottle. clamp it stand on it till you get about 70% then beat it and the swearing helps
Ha ya the valve stem is a little tricky took me 5 min. Must of got lucky but very very nice video! Made ita piece of cake. Thanks saved me 12.50 @ adrenaline moto in bountiful. Could use a 2 stroke video on rebuilds carb, top end, & bottom. As well as trueing a rim.
chubby42806 Hey Chub,On our website, type in a search for a valve stem puller. That little tool is awesome. Makes the job super easy, and saves your knuckles, works on both valve stems and inner tubes, and doesn't cost much at all. Thanks again for watching our videos.
+Jake Ramos Hey JR,Yup. The function of the bead lock is just that, to lock the bead of the tire against the rim. Imagine it as a sandwich. The tire is the meat, between the slices of bread, the rim and the beadlock itself. Thanks for watching our videos and the question. You're a subscriber to our channel, right?
the correst spoons makes a HUGE difference! they need that little lip on the end, otherwise u use harbor freight ones with a smooth curved end n every other bite it SLIPS OFF N SCRATCHES THE RIM N NEXT THING U KNOW ur looking for the tire iron in the grass cause u just launched it 100ft.....yea that was me yesterday...buying the good spoons today. (but i did get the tire on!)
I just changed my first tire on a KX85. Taking it off ended up being not too bad. Then putting the new one on was giving me fits. After it was a good way on, I aborted, because I realized that I was stuck. I knew what I wanted to do differently. I could feel myself making progress and getting close, and kept hearing Matthes saying little bites, little bites, which got me oh so close, but I could no longer use the irons, and then remember Matthes saying to do the last part by hand, and BOOM ...... I did it.
I like watching your videos but can't stepping on a wheel like that to break the bead damage the rotor? And then @ 3:10 when you found your sweet spot and turned your spoon all the way around, did that not scratch the crap out of your wheel?
Good method. I personally put the tube In the tire with a small amount of air, start with the valve stem and get it in the put the tire on the same way he did
What if the bead isn’t perfect? What about if didn’t came out just in one small part? Does that affect something important or is just aesthetic? How I CAN solve to fix that small part that bead didn’t came out as it should?
This would have been a great video of you didn’t cut out the part that I came here to watch. I’m having trouble getting the valve stem to get the tube back in. Any tricks for this?
+Rico Hey Rico, Moto and off-road riders very rarely balance their wheels, but more and more dual-sport riders are doing it. They spend more time on pavement and carry higher speeds for longer. It helps the tire last longer, but also reduces vibration and fatigue at the handlebars. Thanks for watching our videos and the question. You're a subscriber to our channel, right? Ride safe. BB.com!
destroyed my knuckle and have had no succes... I have a yamaha YZ 85 2001...the tire absolutely will not come off. i dont have tire spoons or whatever they are called. Do i need to but those or will these flatheads ive been using work?
here i am 2 hours later and nowhere near done. How i got this darn tire on last year is beyond me.. stupid anil took the tube out and i can not for the life of me get the dam thing on - about to measure it, feels like its an inch short!! 96 cr250 - thanks for showing me that there might still be some hope!
