Originally built a little over ten years ago, the previous owner of this massive custom sailboat spent over a million dollars on the build. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could sail the boat, and the current owner purchased it from the estate. It's currently for sale now for a dirt cheap price when you compare it to the million dollars that it cost to build it. This boat hasn't been sailed and a lot of systems haven't even been used. The engine only has 50 hours on it.

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way.

Definitely a bluewater cruiser. The way that the sleeping quarters are laid out, the captain can get to the helm quickly if needed. A sure sign of a boat designed to be underway more than having her lines secured to dock cleats, for entertaining overnight guests.

Very rarely do we see a real, no-nonsense world's ocean going sailboat, purposefully thought-out and built for it's human masters...On the ocean you don't want large spaces to bang around, you want narrrow passages, high body-guards and railings, handholds where they should be (everywhere), bunks near the command center where you might be needed quickly etc etc...the designer and owner obviously have tons of marine-life experience and designed first for function, not fashion. That ship is a gem. When i will have the cash, I will look for it.

God....the prefect sailor's boat...definitely not a charter boat. Long pointed aft is perfect for deep ocean swell right from the stern!!! And long bow to dish into the waves....Too bad you didnt say much about the keel..and missed the second forestay attachment No doubt that boat would be at home in the roaring 40s or even 50s! If I had the money...would be my boat now! Lovely visit

Id see this as a great solo boat if it can be single handed. Why waste space on a cabin, its more like a studio, do the living in the salon and pilot house, the bunk is just to sleep on.

That Bowsprit used together with a Stern Anchor makes it easy to reach into a stone shore without risking the rudder. Thats how you anchor in a archipelago with stonecliffs.
@spinnaker5514

That is an amazing boat!!! The reason for the small cockpit is it's a real sea going boat. So if you were to take a large wave over the stern (get pooped) there's not enough water to sink the boat nor disable her.

It's a very luxurious, well built sailing yacht. It would make a very comfortable live aboard cruiser and at $119,000 seems to me to be a steal. I can imagine myself holed up in French Polynesia or a Fijian lagoon for months on end. The engine looked brand spanking new. A little TLC and you have yourself a million dollar boat for 90% discount. You guys should definitely take her out for a sail. Great video!
@greggbannett5436

Looks like a great ship. Let’s go sailing! Would love to see it in action. The price is amazing but I guess it reflects a very limited resale potential due to the quirkiness of the design. Most people looking for a boat that size want more comfortable staterooms and heads. I think your idea of a liveaboard couple using it as a day charter boat for groups sounds like a winner, and at that price the business model could work very well. Cool.

When I first saw this boat I laughed as aI thought a million dollars...seriously? No friggen way. But OMG as you did the tour I was in total awe. That vessel is a total labor of love and worth a dime of the million dollars. The guy who built it was a gifted engineer and carpenter. I wish I had a million dollars :-) The electronics all need upgrading but other than that and a couple other things like a water maker and some solar etc the boat is ready. It like all mono hauls needs a gyro stabilizer installed. But for the price you could afford to do some upgrades

@28cruzin
@28cruzin 5 лет назад
Are you serious? Only $119k?? This is a nobrainer! This is a lifetime boat! You buy once, cry once. Live aboard cheaper than rent and YOU OWN IT!!! You might have to work a regular job for awhile, but with 2 incomes, a 2 or 3 year payoff is possible. If I had an opportunity like this at your age I would have walked back to the car, discussed the purchase privately, broke out the checkbook, and made the deal before leaving the yard. This kind of opportunity does not happen often. You two have learned a tremendous amount since you began this sailling life adventure. You know what you're looking at. You know it's worth way more than the asking price. Worst case, things don't work out, so you sell it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Imagine the videos you will make on this boat! Imagine the places you will go. Imagine having this boat the rest of your sailing lives. How could you possibly go wrong? I hope you consider this with an open mind. I'm 69yrs old and I've been on the water since I was 12. Never have I seen such an attractive deal, and hind sight is 20-20. You will regret not giving this opportunity the thought and discussion it deserves. Sound like a saleman, don't I? My names Dave, too, but not the boat owner Dave. Go out, have a great meal, and dicuss this opportunity. What ever you decide you should have no regrets down the road. Fair winds and see you on the next one.

I would say if it becomes apparent it's too big, flip it. Sail it to a hotter market, enjoy that experience and ditch it. But it's already in Florida - any better place to sell a boat? I'm 29, Dave, and seriously considering your advice at this moment. Only problem, I'm experienced in power boats and small sailing dinghy's - not sailing SHIPS. Slight problem?
@28cruzin
@28cruzin 5 лет назад
@@samuelcarpenter4576 The bigger the boat, the more forgiving. That means it is slower to respond to adjustments, steering, etc. That boat is setup for easy handling and safety. The bowsprit makes it seem bigger than it really is. Think slow and easy. I would love to see below the waterline. A doublender is usually a fullkeel with rudder attached making them excellent offshore boats. My first sailboat was a Bristol 26 and when I sailed a Creekmore 45 I was intimidated at first. Once out of the marina it was pretty easy to handle and very predictable. It doesn't take long to become comfortable. Practice makes perfect so just take her out and practice.
@MacBailey

I think it would be a great opportunity to go out for a sail on this for you and the current owner. I also think that a more complete backstory history of the original builder/owner of the boat would make a very interesting video. Maybe you could find some of his remaining family for associates to interview. Drenched and Abandon Comfort did interviews and backstories on their boats. It is much more of a human interest story on how these boats got to where they are now and how much time and effort their owners have put into them. Much like your own story. Keep up the good work.

I believe so. Pretty long waterline and a large sail area with the giant bowsprit. I imagine it'll average 8 knots on a passage.

... reason for a larger boat is cabins and the ability to haul toys ....

Extremely well thought out boat. Definitely a different layout, but obviously the owner had a purpose in mind.

The way that boat is laid out makes me wonder if the original owner was prior navy or coast guard.

George buehler is considered one of the greatest boat designers out there with practicality and strength being his most important priorities. For an excellent read wether you plan to buy a boat or not, try George buehlers backyard boat builder , and get a great insight on this designer

BodyGuardOfLies1 With that tall of a doghouse, it is more like a motor-sailer. Probably doesn’t sail very well with so much surface above the water line and with such a large displacement it’ll need a huge sail plan to move her.
@donaldvanvliet9039
@donaldvanvliet9039 4 года назад
Johnny Walker I wouldn't say that. Not every boat with a pilothouse is a slow motorsailor. The pilothouse here seems pretty proportional for the boat. The interior is not overbuilt (certainly in the aft it's pretty spartan). It's a thin long boat with a long bow sprit (so probably big sails)...wonder what the underwatership is like...this could very well be a fast passagemaker.

This boat has a lot of of pluses . The storage is awesome with access for everything ! ! I don't know anything about the hull construction but it sounds workable . I would definitely take her out for a spin ! 👍 Go for it ! 😂

How comfortable would you be piloting the boat from the inside wheel, not being able to see anything in front of you! Not for a second! What a huge flaw.
