Thanks for the info on the MTS Tractors. Another great video. I wish there was someone like you doing videos on construction equipment. You give right amount of information and you don't talk to much
The ground getting kinda soupy when the outside temperature rises above freezing kinda explains why tracked tractors are being used for this job, I’m sure wheeled tractors would probably be stuck spinning their tires and not going anywhere if you tried to use a wheeled 4WD tractor for pulling these scraper pans.
I work for the construction company that started MTS, so naturally I work around these tractors every day and it’s pretty cool when you get 10-12 of them going along with a handful of scraper trucks. They can definitely move a lot of dirt in a hurry!
Its funny to follow these Ag channels and be awed by this equipment... then follow the mining equipment, or the marine industries... In Ag were at 620 hp tractors, in marine or generation departments of CAT you're in the 1000's... LOL I left farming after 35 years, and am now in Corp IT. I went to Purdue, in Lafayette IN where MASSIVE CAT marine and generation engines are produced... At my current job our primary backup site we have a C175-16 gen set, a 3400hp 16 cyl CAT,,, 4 turbos as big as a tractor engine,,, this gen set is as big as a house... its connected to a 16k gal fuel tank, should run for 2 weeks... hahaha... ITS FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!! The exhalation you get when its running is magical... hope you all get to experience some of the different diesel engines I have, next on my list would be a 10's of thousands HP container ship engines... the 3 story ones...
I have thousands of hours in the operators seat of the MTS tractors. The are powerful and proving to be very durable. Way more durable than Case and Deere. However I’m not a fan of the MTS scrapers. The perfect set up would be MTS tractor with a K-Tech pan.
How do the operators know how much soil to take off? Do the scrapers have some kind of laser levelling on them? Non farmer and in the U.K. Fun fact - Bob Geldof drove a self propelled scraper during the construction of the M25 motorway around London.
Back in the day, it was just done using surveying equipment and dudes holding sticks. These days, it's done with GPS augmentation that allows automatic depth of cut setting and automatic steering. In a modern tractor with a GPS system, the operator is essentially just there to keep an eye on things.
Interesting, love the Versatile brand, surprised in the Ag versions they don't offer CAT/CAT, they use their transmissions, why not engines??? After Agco bought Challenger... duh... its no longer CAT!!! need to bring CAT power back to Ag.... they bailed on truck engines.... bailed on Ag Eq... WTF CAT, your reputation is impeccable... why did you bail on agriculture???
My father-in-law worked at CAT back when they first got into the Challenger ag tractors, & I think it was internally controversial because the ag market was viewed as too small for their attention if they couldn't get dominant share from JD & Case.
Would truly love to see. Side by side tillage video of a 570 V, Deere, and IH. Weighted up the same and balanced about egual. Just wanna see how good they all 3 can run in same field, same ripper, same as same can get. I swear a V would take them with the planets outside and power to ground... and im a deere guy.
I'm glad they didn't. The weakest most expensive parts on my challenger either say Massy Ferguson, or agco. The Cat parts of the tractor seem to hold up though. Lol
How many acres is this project. On the video it looks huge, a little overkill for a city of under 15,000 people! And what is happening to the existing fields?
I think I saw one of these MTS tractors at the Cat plant in Peoria Illinois and mistook it for a Challenger with four tracks. It was dark and couldn't really tell lol.
I don't understand the point of the MTS, what's the point of having a tractor that can only do one job while there are plenty others just as good and just as powerful?
Chris Winter: Talcum powder. The tractor could be new, or just the tracks. The talcum powder lubricates the tracks. In normal conditions dirt lubricates the tracks. Could also be that because it’s muddy there isn’t fine dirt being utilized so being cautious they put powder in the tracks
The single pans are generally bigger than the doubles. also the single pans here have a wider width of cut. Even with the doubles they only fill one at a time.
@@db-cd8hx I use gps on my scraper as well. But you can clearly see a cat D6N LGP with gps on it. And a scraper with gps isn't going to cut sharp slopes and water ways as nice a dozer.
@@farmhandmike Many thanks for your videos. love them without the music. i watch the 55min grain harvest in colorado when i cant get sleep. God bless America and your family, son
Would it make you feel better if a 3/4 million Cat Scraper was doing the same job? lol Thinking isn't your strong-suit is it? The reason why companies are switching over to this way of doing things is because it's cheaper. If it was cheaper to run a dedicated scraper of the size needed for that project, they would have done it. These MTS units, and other tractors like them, also come with the added benefit of running a multitude of different implements. A Scraper can only do one thing. Same goes for traditional Dozers. The same job can be done quicker and cheaper by using a quad-track tractor with a blade on it, and that same tractor can switch functions and pull a scraper or grader with no problems.
