My son and I have been fishing the beach this week for the past 4 day in the orange beach area. We have been having a blast! We've caught tons on whiting , catfish, flounder, stingrays , and even a trout. Your videos are great! Glad to see that we illinoisans are doing about the same as people who fish here all the time.
I fished these same conditions south of Melborne the same day you posted this vid and was killin' the hardhead cats and jack cravalle. The surprise was a 13" lane snapper. I had never caught a snapper from the beach before. Thanks for the vid!
Nice ! 16 spot Red Fish , yea . Great day on the beach with rough surf . With fish like this ....all's great . Nice going Matt and Brant . Tom Daytona Beach, FL. 16, November 2020 .
I loved when Beach Bum had on a fish, Brant said it was a dinky fish. Then when Brant had on a fish, it was always a bigger, slot Redfish! Good friendly competition!
Awesome video! So much fun and a good variety of fish species. You guys always seem to have fun no matter if the fish are biting, good or bad weather or just some bad luck. This is what fishing is all about and why it is the best time. Thanks again guys! 👍🏻👍🏻
I’m telling you - you two need a TVShow!!! You both are so entertaining. I love to eat Whiting. I caught my largest ever that could have well been a VA record - 22 inches long. He was delicious. It was the only time I ever felt head shakes from a whiting and I have photos! I can’t believe you threw them all back. Great video
The broken spike reminded me of a trip to Fort Pickens 58 years ago. The Antietam aircraft carrier was coming into port and I was watching it when a bull red hit my line and the entire rig went into the water🤣. Being a teenager I didn’t have another rod so my day was done but what a great story I get to share with my kids and Grandkids. Keep catchin. I’m headed to the surf at Lakewood Campground in Myrtle Beach.
I went down to Shell Beach in Orange Beach this past Saturday. Seas were rough and water was like chocolate milk. Had 2 big rigs out deep, one with cut mullet and one with large fresh dead shrimp. Had a smaller rig 20’ from beach with a #4 bait holder hook and the tail end of a shrimp on it to catch whiting to use for cut bait for red or throw in cooler. Dang if within the 1st 30 minutes of being there a 30” red hit that small setup! That was fun!
Brant needs a lesson on how to set the drag when using sand spikes.😎 Have either of you tried wearing your GoPro higher up on your chest for a different prospective?
I know you hear fish stories so here’s another one. Late 80’s to 1990 I fished Casco Bay (Maine) with a couple friends. We had tremendous porgies runs and lots of mackerel. The blue fish runs were epic. One weekend we went out Saturday and Sunday and released over 100 blue fish 10 to 13 pounds. It all disappeared a couple years later when the Russian factory ships were allowed to harvest porgies by the acre!
Try doing a sailcat catch and cook. When I lived in Louisiana, they kept all of them. The trick is to put a feed sack in your cooler which will absorb all the slime, then toss it away. Then skin and clean your cats like freshwater ones.
Here in NC those are the type of conditions we look for when it comes to catching reds. The rougher the better. Well, maybe not super rough but you know what I mean. And they don't usually hit bluefish very well at all. Cut mullet or bunker is best. Or a whole pinfish or croaker for a big bull red.
Cut bluefish is an excellent bait for red drum! I've caught several on it! But still, if I have finger mullet, that's my bait of choice! And do me a favor,, keep those hurricanes away! Every time y'all get hit, it comes up here and screws up our fishing too! It's bad enough that we get ones that you don't! Great job on catching fish in nasty water though!
I'm heading down there tomorrow {Saturday). I'm 3 hours away and can only afford to come down for the day.... And only once or twice a year at that. I'm not going to be fishing but I always bring my snorkeling gear. And yes I get in the water year round... Lol. Is the water bad now or was this filmed before the storm turned across lower Florida and into the Atlantic. Please tell me if you can cause I'd hate to waste my only trip this year. Love your channel!
I feel like a dummy, I've been watching yours and brant's channel for a while now and I had not subscribed 🙃 I fixed that today tho , keep up the great work and maybe I'll see u out in the surf one day.
I love your channel & share with all my friends. I’m new to surf fishing. I have a 4000 Kastking Sharky 2 & 7’5” Kastking Black Hawk rod. What pounds test line braid would you recommend?
I normally use a 4 oz. Sputnik weight in normal beach surf. I am shocked the 2 oz. Pyramid weights held onto the bottom, in that rough surf. Am I over weighting my rigs?
I wish y'all would give that Heron in the background a fish looks like he's starving to death. Pacing back and forth patiently waiting mouth watering just hoping you will drop one on the ground so he can pounce on it. LOL
Hey Matthew. Been watching you and Brandt for awhile on here . Started my own channel a few months ago. Would like to touch base with you on some channel questions. Is there a best way to reach out?
What are they talking about conditions are poor... looks like majority of our Texas beaches and we catch them surf bull reds and slot reds all the time.. lol
