Dirty cheap Buffalo Bus with an 8v71 and a mystery COE Ford F600, One of these boys is coming home! 

Those C Cab Fords were built for over 40 years and were dependable, almost bomb proof trucks. Almost every e.ectric utility used them from the sixties through the eighties. They were popular fire truck chassis, and made good city tractors and box trucks. I recently looked at a early 4 headlight truck with tandem axle I considered buying. Mack used the same cab very briefly around 1960.

Well Spanky, I think that ford is a diamond in the bare buff. No matter how stuck it is, unless bent stuck like two rods trying to occupy the same space at the same time... that old FE will come around and good if it does cause way worth more as a core if the worst came to see you. The EFI fuel system on there is off of a old model car seriously. And the way to go is a new one they make for older carbureted engines. A bolt on than some guy with horn rimed glasses and a lite vest over a fluffy white shirt.

Looks like someone was trying to swap it to tbi injection to me. That model truck was only carburator engines only.

The gas Truck engines back then in Fords were 361 and 391 CI .Pick ups were 360 and 390. Never saw any with TBFi. Had to get into the C800 to have 401,477, or 534.

I've seen one of those repowered with a 3208 Cat. The man got it with a 360 gas. He had to trim the top frame flanges a little to make way for the exhaust manifolds, other than that, it went right in there. It was a towtruck, so any time he replaced something, he went with the biggest, stoutest unit he could put in there. He couldn't long haul a loaded grain truck, but he could move them, slowly and with great caution, to a safer spot where they could wait for a bigger towing rig.

Could be a 330MD/HD, 359XD, 361 XD, 389XD or 391 cubic inch FT V8 these were the FE style that ran from 64-78 most likely a 391 or 361 most everything other than piston's would probably interchange especially external parts. Also that is some type of throttle body conversion could be a Holley projection unit or some production GM, Ford or other type see if it has any markings and see if you can find the electronic box running from the throttle body if it is Holley it should be marked. One of my favorite old trucks I used to wait to see one when I was about 6 everytime the Citgo propane man came to fill our tank. Was the highlight of my day everytime he came. Good luck cool truck

The fe is either 361 or 391 truck engine balancer is different they are runners and set for low end torque

It looks like a 361 hd engine,they didn't put regular Fe engines in heavy duty applications,these engines were available in a couple platforms,361 a 331 and a 391 all of which are hd engines, FYI most of these engines had sodium filled valves because of the intense heat they endured,when I was a kid my dad showed me what happened when u heated a sodium filled valve up with a torch until red hot and throw it in cold water they explode pretty dangerous lol hope this helps

That coe is the model that fire department used for engines and any other emergency vehicles

I drove one of those for 2 years that had a 250 Cummins in it with a 9 speed. The thing was bulletproof!

The C-series engine appears to be a Super Duty 401, 477, or 534. Not an FE, these are their own engine family, and very little interchanges with any other Ford engine family. This is probably a later unit- it has a conventional intake manifold with runners. The earlier ones have intakes that are basically just a big plenum with no real runners, and they tend to have problems if/when they backfire. So far as I am aware, all of them were carbureted. As others mentioned it looks like somebody tried to swap a GM TBI onto it later in life, possibly to get better fuel economy....the SD engines use a LOT of fuel. They are pretty reliable as truck engines go- there used to be a lot of them out there in oilfield applications, irrigation, etc. If you can turn it over, and install a basic Holley squarebore, it will probably start.

5.9 Cummins or a 7.3 IDI would fit in the old Ferd. My vote is 7.3 IDI they can take a beating if you've ever seen "Slave Lake" from Zip Ties and Bias Plys on here, you know. That old C model Ford would make a good tool hauler for your will it start videos. add a flatbed, some tool storage and maybe an air compressor

Most likely a 391 FT. Similar to the 390 FE just the industrial version. There’s no intake bolts lol.

Looks like early fuel injection. Early versions use a throttle body which look very much like a carb on the outside and the internals were different. That might be a good project.

CAT 3208 was optional in C8000's.

Throttle Body Fuel Injection, homemade style! Could be a 534 ci SuperDuty engine. Ford mad three SuperDuty gas engines for their medium duty trucks: two in the 400 ci range and the 534. All had 4-bbl carbs on them originally.

That carb looks like the CV carb Ford messed with for a few years. They had a lot of trouble with 'em. Swap a Holley 500 2 barrel carb on and it shouldn't be hard to make it run. BTW-the reason for all the spacers is to add bottom end torque. The longer the intake is the more torque it'll make off idle,but it restricts the upper mid range and top end power.

If this is the correct engine in that 600 it is a 427 and was a carb factory. The TBI on that stack of spacers I believe is from a later model GM small block. Correct factory setup is one spacer with pcv port under a 4 barrel motor craft or Holly carb.

That ford cabover, it eighter a 7 k or a 8k series. We had one as I was growing up it had a non functional dump on it. We hauled lots of steel with it. That motor is gas I seem to think it a 477 ci . If it a 6 k it isn't a 477. Im not sure if it falls under the fe spec . Someone has attempted to change it over to a tbi unit looks from a bowtie trk . It prolly won't work that unit won't feed the thing. Why the spacers I can speculate but not positive. This could make a good local truck but not much else. Ford made a cab over this era as a diesel 36 or 3800 series would be by far more useful to you I think. Oh missing distributor says alot. You may source one on that good luck.

So that Ford 600 is actually a throttle body injection and spacers underneath is an effort to make a high-rise manifold out of it supposed to give it more horsepower

I like to see a better picture of engine i think its a industrial 391 or 437 cid like i said industrial engine i look up them I'm missing one or possibly I've seen most look at the crank noise of harmonic baliner if it 2in or bigger it is one of Ford's industrial engines and i do remember that some of the f250 truck engine's were beeft up to put in f600 truck's run engine numbers of the ford engine web site should find what it is also remember some time them engines very by what crack and rod arm's they got hope it help you that's a chevy tbi setting on that Eugene

Ok I watched the video again on full screen. Thats a drivers side pass car or light truck exhaust manifold on the passenger side. those are 67 or newer valve covers. Is see the dist and intake bolts are missing. Your gonna have to pull the intake cause you know mice and possibly mud wasp have got in there. You have to remove the valve covers and rockers and pushrods to remove the intake. Might still be a 330 -361 or 391 with passenger car top end parts?
