Thank you for all the videos GJ! Your thorough analysis of 1....NC6 vs. e4 is most impressive. As a teenager in the 1970s( when I managed to achieve class A USCF ), I studied this line with my friend ( who later became an IM ) and we found some easy improvements over MCO 10 at the time. However, what you've done with modern technology takes opening study to a new level. Not only good depth but breadth also. Thanks again.

at 12:00 you don't move the bishop, instead you move the queen to h4 and continue like normal because if the opponent is stupid enough to take the bishop the rook on d1 takes the queen on d8.

Fantastic video. It's an amazing testament to Karpov's ability though, that he was only about 16 at the time and in a tricky opening scenario managed to dodge the many other troubling lines you described. I'm sure Timoscenko was a strong opponent.

In the main line, your recommended 6. Bg5 is premature: 6....Nc6 7.Qh4 d5 8.Bd3 Be7 and Black is better (-93 Stockfish) or 6....Nc6 7.Qh4 d5 8. Bxf6 gxf6 9.Bb3 Qe7+ and Black has a big advantage (-176 Stockfish) . White must play 6.Nc3 instead then play Bg5.

At 5:26 most 1400-1800 people I have played do Qe7+ instead of Be7. What do you recommend to respond with?

Same Bg5 emediately is unpresise or old theory perhaps. I think we should play Nc3 first, then Bg5 after... if Qe7+ you dont have to play bishop back to e3 to block.. moving bishop 2 times.. instead, when played Nc3 first.. if they check with Qe7+ The bishop is still on c1... so it moves only 1 time and gets developed to e3 when blocking.... and blacks queen will also loose on tempi if you put a rook on e1, treathening a discovery... you will move bishop 2 times if later play Bg5... but at least you get it there in 2 moves and their queen might not be good on e7... so they might have to move it later... If you play Bg5 emediately, the best move after Qe7+ is Be3... not something you want to play after Bg5... so Qe7+ kind of destroys this line with this moveorder.

Good video, many people doesn't know this gambit, so it can be very deadly. After c4, at the very end, there is a strong Bxf6 followed by Ng5 which is better than Ne5

I think also - for example - 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.Qxd4 Nc5 is not as bad for Black as you think, e.g. 6. Bg5 f6 7.Be3 (your analysis) and now 7...c6!

If Qe7 to protect the knight, and after castle, why should the knight move? Because if for example Nf6 then Re1 and the queen is lost for black

6. Bg5 in the main line seems to backfire against the unexpected 6.... Qe7+! - it may be best to develop with 6. Nc3 first and wait for Black to play Be7 before placing the Bishop on g5

Gunjan, you said if knight moves to f6, castle on queen side. after bishop g5, if black move queen e7 putting white on check, what would you do? u dont wanna exchange queens or move ur active piece back to block the check, right?

Oh yes, you are correct. Thats also check. Stockfish says that white should move his king away instead of blocking with his queen, so that makes whites situation even worse.

Hi GJ, great videos, enjoying it very much thanks. In this one, where the knight goes to 5....:Nd6, can you comment please on what you would do if 6. ...:Nf5, attacking the Q, defending e7? I would follow with 7.Re1:Be7, but then? I can't find a good outcome for white.
