I’ve watched quite a lot on the London System now, trying to add more layers to the opening. This one is definitely the best for the amount of variations in the space of 25 minutes

A buddy of mine up in Idaho, USA, uses a variation of the London System he calls The Alaskan. Common feature with the Bf4, but in club action, he puts Bd3 and Qc2. In club play, Black tends to make an early cxd4, allowing White to choose which of the c- or e-files to open with the recapture. Maintaining the tension between c5 and d4 makes the Bd3 setup more problematic.

I tend to be pretty materialistic and dogmatically-positional in my game. Sometimes a doubled pawn is a bowling alley for a rook. Sometimes there are other compensations that I never even looked for, because of positional considerations. Makes me a pretty good 5-minute player, avoiding complications for ME, but always looking to complicate things for my opponent. I really appreciate the themes you share, because your kind of thinking and demonstrations give me really good ideas (for a mere schlepper) on HOW to translate sacrificed material for the initiative. I have a much better eye for the Knight and Bishop sacrifices in the opening and early middle game, now. I've watched #1 - #26, now. After I finish the series, I'll go back thru all the PGNs and some deeper analysis. Like Bobby Fischer, I bemoan the vast amount of theory that has the well-prepared player not even THINKING until move 18 or 20. Sucks the life out of rated chess. Makes it less of a creative process, in my (and Bobby's) opinion. And that's the extent of EVERYthing I have in common with Bobby Fischer. I also tend to be more worried about losing the Queen than I should, so it's really good to see (and appreciate) how important it is to make those seemingly innocuous Queen moves that set up multiple threats, because of her mobility. Very hard to be patient with those moves, because conventional thinking has me worried all the time about threats to the Queen, with tempo. Thanks, GJ.

In Nimzo/Queen Indian you didn't analyze the strongest continuation for black: 7...Bd6. There is still slight advantage for white after that move, but certainly not decisive, by any means.

A punch in the face to whoever says The London System is a boring opening
@jasonchavarria857
@jasonchavarria857 6 лет назад
It does appear that the London System can be flexible enough to be able to be aggressive and be able to attack and put alot of pressure on your opponents King with good tempo. It's just to bad you can't really play that system with black. And I am still trying to find the right opening for black.

Charles Darwin: Seeing the tricks alerts schmucks like ME to themes I wouldn't otherwise "see," and GJ has me "seeing" those themes at a glance. It's no substitute for hard-core study and hard-core training, but I think it's great stuff for someone at my low level. And if you study everything GJ puts up, you can catch a lot of people off-guard, with variations they haven't studied. It's one thing to play "trappy" style of chess. It can get you in real trouble if your opponent doesn't fall for it. But I don't think GJ crosses the line to offering up un-sound, refutable variations. And by finding some relatively obscure - yet pretty sound - themes, he can help level the playing field against bookworms.

Thats bullshit is a weak opening just for small advantage to avoid alot of theory ,if black know what to do against it, white is doomed

I'm not a great player and would like suggestions on memorizing these lines. Do you write them out or watch the video 50 times or just play games till you recognize patterns? I'm beginning to think that winning has something to do with how I arrange my pieces during the game, once I get this worked out I believe I'll see some improvement :>)
