This is a good strategy, but at 3:20 a more effective strategy is to launch a RT-2PM2 Topol-M cold-launched, three-stage, solid-propellant, silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile to attack blacks remaining pieces.

@alexc773
@alexc773 7 лет назад
If you're a fan of this gambit, a great alternative way to start this gambit is to perform Nf3 as the opening move. This invites the move d5 from black, which enables you to play e4, thus setting up the gambit. The nice aspect about the 1. Nf3 d5 2. e4 opening is that it doesn't require your opponent to play the Scandinavian.

This is how I play the Tennison (as a transposition from the Reti). I love it, blacks moves are basically forced, I get a rapid king side development while black develops in a meaningless way.
@michaelmorris4515
@michaelmorris4515 6 лет назад
Only if he's foolish enough to try hold on to the pawn. e5 in response to Ng5 (giving back the pawn on e4) defuses all the tricks and gives the initiative to black.

I think what you're doing is amazing. You bring such enthusiasm and personality to what can, at times, be a dull or even maddening game.. just because chess is "monotonous" in nature doesn't mean chess videos can't be full of color! @SaintD382
@SaintD382 9 лет назад
I play 1...d5 vs. 1.e4 100% of the time. I know what you mean though: 1...d5 is maybe the fifth most common response to 1.e4 (after 1.e5, 1.c5, 1.e6, and 1.c6). But it's worth noting that several top players have played the Scandinavian (aka the Center Counter), including Bent Larsen, David Bronstein, Viswanathan Anand, and the current World Champion Magnus Carlsen. I have encountered the Tennison Gambit many times in blitz games, and it is a tough opening to deal with. This video is helpful, though it would also be nice to see some Black refutations.
@AeonQuasar
@AeonQuasar 7 лет назад
Saint Dufus i know this is two year old post, but black has many good retribution to this after 3. Ng5. And that is to ignore the pawn. Just develop instead and you have taken the Initiative from the white very early. My favorite third move from black is 3.e5. Or 3. Nc6.

@mistletoe88
@mistletoe88 10 лет назад
Garrett you learn tactics through instructional games. a lot of the main opening lines are highly tactical as well but compared to such tricks they don't leave you with an inferior position if the opposition knows the correct response. In other words, tricks detract from sound play. As he rightly points out, this should only be used in blitz games when players don't have much time to think and you can catch them with your preparation.
@deloford
@deloford 10 лет назад
rusty_frame Totally disagree, ultimately chess is about winning. "Seeing" effective ways to win is inspiring, motivating and teaches a young mind the beauty and devious nature required to do well. I wish when I was younger I had youtube videos like this to learn from, instead I used books with very similar gambits detailed but it just couldnt compete with narrated guides like this. Good work GJ, keep it up.
@Krownyh
@Krownyh 10 лет назад
deloford I'm fond to believe the books were not totally detailed for the sake of making you think about the move
@mistletoe88
@mistletoe88 10 лет назад
deloford same thing can be said about instructional games suck ss fischer-byrne, except those games don't lead you down the wrong path with flawed tactics. Books in the past obviously couldn't compete for on simple reason - computer analysis. do you seriously think that people nowadays could come up with completely sound annotated games in one day without first checking with a computer?

The worst are when your traps you took so much time developing back fire suddenly. At the same time , setting up a good trap that comes together is so much fun. If only you could see opponents face rather then read there quick comments. Good vid thank you.

Thank you so much for posting these videos! They are really good stuff. Please keep posting them! I coach chess and have showed them to my students... They have won tournaments by duplicating the moves you have lectured on. I play online chess and have wrecked several opponents with your traps using Italian-Kaltonwski, Sicilian Dragon, and Center-Counter openings. Here is a modified variation of your Center-Counter Opening that I just used on chess.com. My opponent resigned in 9 moves: 1. e4 d5 2. Nf3 dxe4 3. Ng5 Nf6 4. d3 exd3 5. Bxd3 e6 6. b3 h6 7. Nxf7 Kxf7 8. Bg6+ Ke7 9. Ba3+ Black Resigned
