"Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Fun Fact: Albert Popwell appeared in every "Dirty Harry" movie, except The Dead Pool (1988), playing a different character in each movie. Family Affair Fact: When the Scorpio Killer is running away from Callahan (Clint Eastwood) at the end of this movie, he spots a young boy sitting near a pond, and grabs him as a hostage. The kid was played by Andrew Robinson's real-life stepson Stephen Zacks. Gun Enthusiast Fact: The Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum used in this movie is now owned by prop master and weapons specialist Bill Davis, who bought it off of the production company several years before this movie became popular. The revolver is still in use as part of his catalogue. Historical Fact: Serial killer Scorpio (Andrew Robinson) was loosely based on the Zodiac killer, who used to taunt Police and media with notes about his crimes, in one of which he threatened to hijack a school bus full of children. The role of Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) was loosely based on real-life detective David Toschi, who was the chief investigator on the Zodiac case. Legendary Director Fact: As is well-known, Clint Eastwood directed the scene with the suicide jumper (Bill Couch). However, it is often claimed he directed the scene only because producer and director Don Siegel was ill. This is inaccurate. Siegel was indeed ill, and wasn't on the set, but Eastwood had always been scheduled to direct that scene, due to the difficult logistics of getting the actors, director, cameraman and sound man all together on the top of a small ledge. In the shooting schedule, six nights had been set aside for the shooting of the scene. Eastwood told the studio he could shoot it in two nights. In the end, he shot the entire scene in one night.

What I love about movies from the early-mid 70’s is the nostalgia I get, especially from the music. It reminds me of being a 10 year old kid, watching shows like Baretta, Barnaby Jones & Rockford Files with my folks. It also reminds me of all the great movies Clint was in around that time.

This movie was a commentary on the crime problem at the time and the police and courts seemingly unable to do much about it. This included all the focus on criminals' rights at the expense of public safety. The public liked Dirty Harry, and Death Wish, etc., but the powers that be, not so much because the movies made them look bad, meaning the leadership.

Jim Carrey was barely in The Dead Pool. Eastwood is the only good thing about that sequel. It was so bad that Frank Miller wrote the Sin City story "That Yellow Bastard" just to get the taste out of his mouth. That script would have made a far better DH sequel.

I love all Clint Eastwood movies except Play Misty for me. Dirty Harry and Rocky are my two favourite cinematic characters. My favourite quote that he says to a robber in Sudden Impact... "We're not just going to let you walk out of here!". The robber responds, "Who's we sucker?". Harry retorts, "Smith, Wesson...and me" before blowing all the robbers away with his 44 Magnum. There has never been a harder character in my opinion and his one-liners are pure gold. I also saw some other commenters mention "Every which way but loose" and its sequel...i second those suggestions...great fun movies.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching your reactions to this iconic Clint Eastwood film. Eastwood was born in SF & still resides in the SF Bay Area. I grew up in SF. Scorpio was based on the uncaptured serial killer, Zodiac Killer, who haunted SF & the Bay Area residents in the late 60s. Dirty Harry premiered in theatres in 1971. Me & my little buddies were scared shit of the Zodiac Killer. We carried our baseball bats with us on Halloween nights. We ran back home the night after watching Dirty Harry in the movie theatre. The Dirty Harry character propelled Eastwood to movie superstar status. I think you will enjoy reacting to Magnum Force, the 2nd movie in the Dirty Harry franchise. Again, I enjoyed your reactions 👍. Thank you for bringing us Dirty Harry!

I'm from San Francisco and I was born three years after Dirty Harry came out, so this one is a special favorite for me. My family was living in the City during the Zodiac's active period. One big difference between Scorpio and the real Zodiac is that only one of the real Zodiac's kills was in San Francisco itself. The rest were in the surrounding counties, usually in remote areas. I always laugh when Harry's boss refers to 'the black area,' as if San Francisco didn't have multiple neighborhoods with lots of black folk.

Firearms instructor here. This movie has one of the most infamous "movie gun mistakes" of all time: During the first You Feel Lucky Punk? speech, the cylinder on his revolver turns twice before the hammer drops. Which is also weird because this movie had some otherwise very nice almost pulp detective style where it doesn't shy away from showing the seedier parts of society. I would strongly recommend the sequel film to this.

The character of Harry Callahan is one of the most iconic in all of movie history. Clint Eastwood imbued him with a lot of hard edged callousness, backed up with caring for his fellow citizens. Now you have seen this one, one has to keep going with the sequels. The gun / revolver I believe based on looks and such, is the Smith & Wesson model 29, with the 8 and 3/8th inch barrel. I think it also helped to increase sales of the model at the time as well. For those who have interest and more of deep dive, there are a few documentaries on the film and why it was made as, to a degree, it was a commentary of the time it was made. Still a GREAT classic.

You need to watch, "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" and, " High Plains Drifter ", both classic Clint Westerns...and he's years younger in them than even here in Dirty Harry. You'll like the sequel to Dirty Harry too, " Magnum Force "...fantastic movie. Oh yeah, you'll like about 15 other Clint movies too, at least. Remember too, Eastwood is one of the greatest directors Hollywood has ever seen and directed not only tons of movies he himself has starred in, but other great films as well. 👊

Dirty Harry was a movie that changed the American culture. This movie was the game changer for cop movies and TV cop series. Dirty Harry was the first, or at least, the most infamous vigilante style cop ever put on screen. All cop movies and TV series followed in these footsteps afterwards. This movie was also the most realistic cop movie at the time. .It was considered to be very edgy back then. Before that, all cops were generally portrayed as goody two shoes and by the book lawmen. Dirty Harry changed the game.
