I loved Tyne Daly in this, happy when she got cop show "Cagney & Lacey", which she was brilliant in.

Tyne along with Sharon Gless...it was a great show. The first police procedural on American television that starred women in the detective roles. Groundbreaking...I assume that being in this film helped Tyne get her foot in the door to get an audition. I'll have to research to find out if that was the case.

@@bjgandalf69 Sorry bud but Police Woman (74-78) starring Angie Dickinson was the first.

@reesebn38 OK, I did forget about Angie's show but C&L was technically the first cop show to star women (plural) as it was the first female buddy cop show. But Police Story was definitely first as it ran on CBS from 1982-8 and I am old enough to remember watching it first run. I was born in 1969 so a little young to have watched Angie's show first run.

7:29 "That's his signature move. Right in the... (motions to back)." He's supposed to be a Vietnam vet, and a knife to the kidney (normally preceded by clamping the free hand over the sentry's mouth but often depicted in movies with wrapping the arm around the neck instead) was a standard "sentry removal" technique taught in Army hand-to-hand combat. BTW he's the kind of violent psychotic (as you said "Okay, that guy's a psycho) Hollywood 'Nam vet cliche that real veterans initially feared "Rambo: First Blood" was perpetuating.

Jerry Fielding kinda rocked, didn’t he? 😎 He got blacklisted during the ‘50s just when his Hollywood career might have gotten going and had to retreat to Vegas where he was a band leader and arranger until Otto Preminger hired him to score “Advise and Consent” (awesome movie, by the way) in the early ‘60s. Once he got going he worked like a mad thing who always had it in his head that the job he was on might be his last so he basically worked himself to death at too young an age.😔 While he was around he did a crap-ton of TV (a couple “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible” episodes among many others) and managed to hook up with Sam Peckinpah, Michael Winner, and Clint Eastwood for his most high profile movies. His style was very distinctive but he didn’t mind subordinating it to some extent for “The Enforcer” when Lalo Schifrin wasn’t available, especially if it got him in better with Eastwood. For Eastwood he did “The Outlaw Josey Wales,””The Gauntlet,” and “Escape From Alcatraz” (Don Siegel directed, but it was in most ways an Eastwood production). For Winner he did half a dozen very different sorts of movie but I’m not sure any of them play as well today as his other work, but “The Mechanic” and “Scorpio” are good fun, and “Lawman” is all kinds of awesome to listen to - “The Nightcomers” is a prequel nobody asked for to “The Turn of the Screw” that gives Marlon Brando free rein, for better or worse, but Fielding’s score is stunning. Fielding seriously put himself on the map with Sam Peckinpah - “The Wild Bunch,” “Straw Dogs,” and “Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia” are well worth a look, if you’re stomach’s feeling particularly strong at the time. 😊

Actress Tyne Daly initially turned down the role of Clint Eastwood’s partner in The Enforcer because she didn’t relish playing a character with such an awful personality. The beloved Cagney & Lacey star, who portrayed Kate Moore in the 1976 film, reveals she asked Eastwood to rethink her character’s personality traits before she agreed to sign on. “They asked me to do this movie and I said, ‘No’, and they couldn’t believe it,” she told U.S. chat show The Talk on Monday (30Oct17). “If you say no in movies they say, ‘Would you like some more money?’ and you say, ‘No thank you’, and they say, ‘What’s the matter with you?’ “But when… I met with him (Eastwood), he said, ‘Tell me why you don’t want to be in my movie, what’s the matter with you?’ and I said, ‘Because she’s a cartoon character…'” “So we went page-to-page in the script and he, as a very big, powerful movie star, let me, as the young actress affect (the character), turn her into a person… I got to make her human enough for people to care.” From: www.hollywood.com/general/tyne-daly-refused-to-star-in-the-enforcer-until-clint-eastwood-rewrote-her-character-60701551

Jen, The Enforcer was the first Dirty Harry movie that I got to see in the Goldstream Theater. I was 12 or 13 and went with some of my friends. I remember the cool commercial on TV and talking about how cool it was afterwards. I bought a Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum when I turned 21, along with a shoulder holster to be my outdoors in Alaska, defense against big bears gun. I must have picked the right one because I've never had a dangerous encounter with a bear since I bought it in 1985. I love to see you watching and enjoying this classic series of movies.

Good ear for the change in music. The composer for this movie was Jerry Fielding. Originally it was supposed to be Lalo Schifrin who had done the soundtrack to both of the previous Dirty Harry movies. But Schifrin was busy trying to finish work on The Four Musketeers. Both come from a jazz background (Something Eastwood is a big fan of.) but Schifrin leans more towards big band. Fielding went with the feeling of a freestyle quintet where the rest of the band would play the rhythm while individual members would step forward to embellish as necessary for the particular scene. The opening scene screams 70's crime drama. Change the city in the skyline shot and the characters in the close-ups, and it becomes Kojak or The Mod Squad. In the 80's the music softened, the cuts weren't as quick, and there was a more melodramatic feel.

Depending on department, police can carry personally owned firearms if it meets approval from their chief. That is why Harry didn't have to turn in his handgun. A standard issue pistol was usually a S&W revolver in .38 Special up until the 1990's.
@waterbeauty85
@waterbeauty85 2 месяца назад
It's interesting. The Wikipedia page on the SFPD says that the department switched to a .40 cal. version of the Beretta 92 in the 90s and was one of the last departments in America to switch from .38 cal. revolvers, but officers I knew personally in the in 80s carried S&W .357 Magnum revolvers. I don't know if the department allowed officers some latitude in what they carried, or if Wikipedia got its facts wrong.
@timmooney7528
@timmooney7528 2 месяца назад
@@waterbeauty85 The .357 had an advantage over the .38, since it could chamber both cartridges. Callahan was also a detective. Could that make a difference in latitude?

Hitchhiking has been illegal in California since 1959, Jen.😉 Mustapha (Albert Popwell) appeared in 4 Dirty Harry films, playing four different characters. In "Dirty Harry" he is the robber to be asked if he feels lucky.😉 He was also in "Magnum Force" and "Sudden Impact". Yep, "Magnum Force" is still my favorite in the franchise.

'Knife with finger holes in the handle'; close. It is a close quarters combat knife (or trench knife); the hand guard is built to incorporate brass knuckles. So you have the option to work with the knife or punch with the brass knuckles. Brass knuckles are slightly less lethal than the knife blade. However a punch with the knuckles can also split someone's skull right open.

Jerry Fielding has done a BUNCH of movie scores. My fav "The Wild Bunch". "The Outlaw Josey Wales" "Straw Dogs" I enjoy your reactions to the music more than to the movies (music comp major in school) The force wouldn't supply him with a .44 Magnum, He would have had to buy it with personal funds, therefore, it's HIS gun.

So the guy who played Mustafa in this was the Pimp in Magnum Force and the bank robber ("I gots to know") in Dirty Harry. I think "The Dead Pool" is the only Dirty Harry movie he wasn't in.

21:11 I live in Northern NJ, 4 people in my town were killed on 9/11, Jeremy Glick, flight 93 was one of them. After making sure my children were sent home from school and safe, I watched NY, the Pentagon and Flight 93 coverage. My wife looked at me and said "you're going aren't you". I made my way into Manhattan to assist in rescuing survivors, but there weren't any. Women were coming up to me on the streets, violently grabbing me and asking if I saw their loved one while showing me their picture. The moment I said No, they went quickly onto the next person. Fighter jets were flying low altitude cover and you could see they were fully armed. I had to try, my Father was a US Marine, WWII and Korea and would have expected and accepted nothing less from me. Heartbroken for all those killed and angry to this day. I came to become feiends with Rob O'neill, Navy Seal Team 6 Operator who took out Osama Bin Laden, he's my hero.

No, they would not take his personal weapon. If it was a department issued weapon, yes. Officers had the option back in the day. A .38 was standard issue. Officers often had the option to use their own piece, but they didn't have to. Not sure how it works these days.

Jen, composer Jerry Fielding composed a lot of TV scores including 2 Star Trek: Original Series episodes: Fielding combined his film scores with television work, not an unusual combination at the time, particularly since the theme song for a hit television series could go on paying dividends for years, generating royalties every time it was played on the air. He scored two episodes of the first Star Trek television series: cult classic The Trouble with Tribbles and Spectre of the Gun. He also wrote the title themes for what became enduring 1960s shows of the network era: Hogan's Heroes and The Bionic Woman, as well as Run, Buddy, Run; He & She . His last television theme tune was for the 1970 situation comedy The Tim Conway Show.[citation needed] He also did notable work with Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974). His last television soundtrack, for the mini-series High Midnight, won an Emmy. From Fielding's Wikipedia page...
