Dirty PCBs Vs Seeed PCBs and limited edition kit prize.

Open competition for a VERY limited edition kit (just 10 being made) with an unintentional review of the Dirty PCB and Seeed studio PCB prototyping services.
For a chance to win the kit just leave any comment down below. The rest of the kits are a way to thank the channels PayPal and Patreon supporters who make a huge contribution to the channel by providing a layer of security against RU-vid shenanigans and also allow me to be less restrictive about the type of content I put out without worrying about upsetting advertisers. It's all just a little bit ruder, more dangerous and fun as a result.
I'm already sending random things at random times to random PayPal and Patreon supporters, and this will continue.
These little tree kits are really nice to build and look great. I've done all the hard work for you by making the pre-crimped stems and stripping the ends ready for use. The kit includes everything you need except a soldering iron, pair of side cutters and a USB power supply. These kits will draw about 150mA on a 5V supply.
The prototype PCB sites I used to get the batches manufactured were:-
www.dirtypcbs.com/store/pcbs
and
www.seeedstudio.com/fusion_pcb...
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

ENIG= Electroplated Nickel Immersion Gold, which is the normal gold finish where you don't need hard plating for edge connectors etc., but want a very flat surface for fine pitch SMDs, QFNs etc.

From what I found its actually Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold, where the Nickel is deposited without needing to pass an electric current through the solution. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroless_nickel_immersion_gold

Years ago it used to be popular to make "armatures" for trees for model railways from telephone wire twisted together in more or less the same way. When finished by wrapping the main trunk with floral tape and painting it with plaster for texture and then adding foliage (coloured ground up foam rubber) the results can be very realistic.

It's probably a bit late for a chance at a kit but what the hell I'm still jealous af at your soldering skills, you did the whole assembly faster than it took me to replace the grindy little 40mm fan in my ioniser/ozone generator with something a little quieter

Same thing, a lot of times the bond wires inside the LED elements break (instead of a PSU failure)._
@curtaintwitcher1148

DjResR they just end up flashing randomly. I figure it's a component on the aluminium board that's at fault rather than its driver. Shame really given their cost and modest heatsinks installed.

I've now had 6 lots of double-sided PCBs done by Seeed, and in all cases the quality and price were both excellent. If you order multiple designs at the same time, then the per-board cost drops quite a bit, due to the combined postage costs. They also offer DHL delivery - costs a little more, but is faster.

High CRI is easy to explain, it's like having less ripple by adding phases to your input. They use more colors of phosphors and carefully proportion them to more closely match the human eye's response curve. You'll see fewer dead spots or weak colors in apparently white light.

With DIrtyPCBs, it's worth changing from protopack to qty 10, and setting the actual size as that sometimes works out cheaper. Also check 20x and 30x as sometimes they come in at the same price as 10x.

I enjoy your videos because I've always enjoyed taking stuff apart to see what makes it tick. I also save a lot of broken items rather than tossing them because maybe some part of it might be useful later on. Recently, after a lightning storm, two LED tubes in the basement got zapped. I was curious what exactly got zapped, so I took it apart and found the LED strip was unharmed but the little power supply had a chip blown out of the chip in the power supply. The LED PC board has cob LEDs arranged in groups of 5 parallel and 24 groups in series. What I wound up doing was cutting the pc strip into 2 pieces of 11 groups and 1 piece of 2 groups and used all 3 in the kitchen as under counter lighting. Since I have 3 HP printer 32v dc power supplies, from friends that gave me their old printer that no longer worked, I was able to use one of them to power the 2 eleven group strips and I used a Canon 6v DC wall wart (from what, I know not). I just thought you are one person who could appreciate that story. Keep up the good videos. Jim

This is one of the best informative videos about two totally different companies and pub,s and how they are made. I’ve watched this video twice along with a few other s. Thanks for all the great info on different electronic components. I never went to any kinda schooling for electronics. I learned it mostly on my own with the help of a great friend in , Porter, Texas. Mr Sonny Eires. He learned everything about communication electronics when he was in the navy. There’s nothing he couldn’t fix or build from scratch. I learned to work on cb radios and amps. I even designed my linears. I built com a little 50 watt driver to 6000 watt amps. I even helped sonny develop what we named a, dead motor mall. When you keyed up your radio to activate the amp , the motor mall would change from 12 volts to 24 volts. You could use as many 12 volt batteries as you had space for. I’m retired now and piddle around the house and always looking for something to build or fix. Thanks. John.

ENIG is Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold, its a nickel plated pad with a thin flash of gold on top to protect the nickel pad and aid soldering. The gold is removed by the solder, and you solder to the nickel pad. Its becoming the standard lead free finish. its also good for small SMD components, as its flat, unlike HASL which can have bumpy finish

It's not, unless you're specifically ordering from one of these two - they're not the ones being mentioned by accident. There might be another one or two less known sources with the same pricing (I don't know of any others), but the typical "hobby PCB" outlet will charge you several times this price, and at $50-100 for ten, when you really just need one single small PCB paying for it stops being fun really fast...
@Monkeh616
@Monkeh616 7 лет назад
One of these two.. or Smart Prototyping, ITEAD, Elecrow, PCBWay, ALLPCB, ShenZhen2U, and certainly a few more. And OSHPark, which has a different pricing scheme (which sucks for this specific example, but is great for some things).
@nickguy6820
@nickguy6820 7 лет назад
Love OSH Park for small boards. If you're into SMD and tend to make thing a couple inches square, it's cake. For larger boards, I tend to go with Elecrow, as OSH's pricing scheme tends to end up more expensive with increased size. Elecrow's also nice if you want other options, like solder mask color, etc. Never used Dirty PCBs or Seeed.

Pros and cons of Dirty PCBs v. Seeed: Seeed is cheaper when you use 1 design per Gerber file because they charge per design. One design could be 4 identical, 4.5 by 4.5 mm boards placed in one gerber file or just one PCB design. When you have multiple boards you will need to add mouse bites in your gerber file to allow PCBs to be separated later. If you need multiple different small boards on the same 10 by 10 board Dirty PCBs is cheaper. You just add all of them to the same gerber file (making sure they are in the 10 by 10 mm area) and Dirty PCBs adds the mouse bites for you. This makes panelization much easier for people new to PCB design. Lastly, if you are in Shenzhen, both will show you factories/how things are made. However, the people at Dirty PCBs are more fun when it comes to beer and BBQ.

if he has the pcb on his website, might have to order a set of parts for yourself

I've used Seeed's Fusion service a few times and have always had good results. I've always gotten the thinnest boards available due to extreme space constraints of what I'm putting them in, but even those are well made and easy to use.

Clotted my iv and when that cleared all the drugs that ended up in the iv tube went into in the space of 2 min. needless to say i apparently turned very white and very fried really quick. Iam surprised i could actually still type lol Thanks for the well wishes but sadly the ms isn't going any where although i can think of a few places i like to send it lol.

Your videos are awesome and I hope that even with the advertising blip and if there are more in the future that your channel will survive, inspiring people to tinker with electronics and some of the jobs surrounding electronics.

Hi Clive. I'm visually impaired (registered blind). I love all your work watched every very... I struggle to soldier with my Vision but have started playing with Microcontrollers as I can get away with bread board and patch wires. but I would love one of your LED Tree's if I could be built. With ym Vision deterioration LED Lighting is my obsession and a must. I lovely the wonders of RGB for pleasure but always have led lighting around me to live day to day from LED Touches, Filitment LEDS to full on ceiling and floors / Video lights.... I would love to be luck to receive a built Tree. keep up your amazing videos. I love watching your video just before bed. chilled out relaxing watching you dismantle the crazy pink things of China. p.s. love the gay darlics. so doesn't my Chinese Husband. we think it's helirious. much love. Sean Yem i also have low vision and have a setup where i use my iPhone on a tripod and use its Magnifier function for soldering. Takes a bit of getting used to but does work

Sean Yem I myself am visually impaired and am registered blind, love soldering it can be defficult at times however with enough practice I have become quite confident in my soldering. Being fully colour blind also doesn't help things as colour plays a big part in electronics as well as in standard electrical stuff however I always find a way to get what needs to be done done haha Keep on soldering!
