In a previous video, I showed you how can you disable WordPress file editing, by adding one line of code in wp config file. That code makes plugin editor and theme editor disappear. You won't be able to edit theme and plugin files from wordpress admin area unless you remove that code but you can still install new plugins. And if you can install new plugins you can install a file manager plugin and make file edits using file manager plugin. So there is still a way to edit files in wordpress even without plugin editor or theme editor. Code to disallow file editor and plugin editor is below:
define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true)
We can further enhance wordpress security by disabling plugin and theme installs. Secure your wordpress site from unauthorized plugins and theme installations and file modifications. Edit wp config file and add another line of code.
define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS',true)
So now there will be no option to install new plugins in wordpress. And now even plugins have some options disabled. You won't be able to install new plugins or themes. You won't be able to update themes and plugins. More security, right? This code, disables the installation of themes and plugins but it also stops auto updates and manual updates from admin panel. So make sure you check for updates yourself from time to time if you have this option enabled.
There is an error message that says:
"There has been a critical error on your website."
It mostly happens when a theme or plugin update causes conflict. When your website is receiving good number of visitors, you just don't want anyone to hit update button for theme or plugin. Or if a hacker gets access to your website, first thing he would do is to access your files, change theme or install plugins to do something.
So in these cases, this wordpress security technique is useful. Disable file modifications and updates and installs by using this technique. Any type of file modifications through admin panel of WordPress will be restricted.
If you find this situation where you can't update plugins or can't install new plugins, in wordpress,
check wp config file and if there is this code that we added, comment this and you will be able to use wordpress as normal.
