Disappointment in Hawaii - Waikiki is Too Much! I Needed More Time

If you have the big bucks the helicopter tour on Kauai is astounding, it was one of the highlights of our trip. Those zodiac boats that go in and around the cliffs were a lot of fun too. Hanalai(?) Bay is crowded and aggravating.

Just start the list now of things you need to do when you return to Hawaii it's such an easy trip from California that we go at least twice a year once you've had enough of honolulu, fly to Maui or Kauai and rent a little car just driving through the island stopping at the roadside stand that sells homemade banana bread coconut water and lots of opportunity to speak with the locals enjoy the rest of your vacation aloha

Try saying açaí bowl three times fast. Glad you enjoyed some “ono” food on Oahu.

It has been quite a few years since I was last there, but we used the city bus all the time.

If you get back to Hawaii you need to try the other islands. I spend at least two weeks in Hawaii every year and Honolulu is last on my list. 🤷‍♀️ Everyone needs to go to a luau once……it’s one of those things that’s one and done..

I spend 10 days on just Oahu and it wasn't enough. That was 10 years ago.

Haha! We did Pearl Harbor during the day and then the Diamondhead Luau - all on our day in Waikiki Apr 28. Great minds think alike.

I spent two weeks on Oahu and still missed a few big attractions. There's so much packed into a small island.

2 and 1/2 days! My hubs and I couldn't see everything in a week. So much to do and so much fun.

Waikiki is called the entertainment island. Tourists galor and very congested. The other islands especially Kauai are more relaxing and laid back.

Just wait til you see the other islands. You will be gobsmacked!!

Morgan you need to go to the smaller islands where it is not so commercial. When you are there it is just like any big city and overcrowded.

This is too funny to me. Goes to Oahu and only stays in Waikiki. If you’re really going to see Hawaii get out of Waiks. It’s a tourist trap and highly commercialized. Go see Waimea Bay, Waimea Valley, Hale’iwa (also a tourist trap, but still has a local vibe), take advantage of all the scenic lookouts along the Kalaniana’ole Hwy, Nu’uanu Pali , Tantalus. Watch the sunset at Sunset Beach on the North Shore. Even just the drive on the H3 to Kaneohe is breathtaking. The Ko’olaus always give me goosebumps. I get it, 2 days isn’t really much time to do everything. When I go back home for 2 or 3 weeks I still can’t do every single thing I want to. But I still spend most of my time out of Waikiki and downtown to experience the islands themselves and the vibrant culture you don’t really get in town.

We had 6 full days and it was not enough! Next time we'll go for at least 2 weeks (which probably won't be enough either haha).

Been to many cities/ countries around world and never felt the draw to return to them like I did Hawaiian islands. They are truly paradise imo. Ssshhh!!

If you have never surfed, you need to try next time at Waikiki

$3, no tip. Important when being frugal. You can get shave ice when you get to the other islands you stop at.

My husband and I have been to London, England twice and still have not seen everything we wanted. Now, we did go to Hampton Court Palace and the Tower of London both times, but still there were a lot more days we could have seen more that we wanted.

Try Marugame Udon restaurant. Great noodles!

We found Waikiki Beach in general disappointing

no, no, no.... omg no. even with hours left there's still not enough time. one place I would want to visit it s a volcano. but I get it. I've been actually eying a trip to Waikiki for my dad and me in September.

I lived there for 3 years. I was happy the day, got out of there. Waikiki, not much, too do. The Big Island Hawaii is more to do and see.

You can’t do any of the best stuff in a couple off days anywhere good. I stayed there six weeks and didn’t do anything on that tourist list you had but swim in the ocean

There are a few other islands besides ohau.

There is always too much to do, no matter where you are!😊 ETA now I know how to pronounce acaí.

Oh I was 667/ broke that 666 curse on views. My daughter lived there 4 years, so I visited at least 8 times a year to see the grandkids. Still didn’t see and do it all.

Da Bus - for us it was more than ‘a little bit longer’! That said, on one of the rides we had a real wierdo on the bus. Aparently a regular from comments by the bus driver. Fun in a strange sort of way.

Go see the volcano at the Big Island at night

For me Kauai and Maui were much better than Honolulu. Personally I’d rather go back to Australia and New Zealand.

Açaí bowls are the best. Our local beach on Long Island sells them at the concession. For less than $15, you get a huge one, enough for 2 people, which my husband and I share for lunch, or my daughter and I. Too much for one person.
