For anyone that might still be trying to take the base off. You need to pull the base all the way up, then grab the neck and fold it up even more (this is what releases the neck of the base) while pulling it way from the monitor. There are 2 clips under the bottom base you can squeeze together at the same time as pulling....same with the the vertical pipe that is attached to that.
