Hey. a good video for learning internal components. Can you tell me how started motor was connected to the compressor/turbine shaft. Was there an clutch system of any sort. It would be very helpful if can share the picture or name of the connector used. Thanks
Hello, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures. But I can tell you that I believe the stater couples with the shaft via electromagnet. When the signal reaches the starter, the magnet engages with the shaft. After it’s running, it disengages. Full throttle for the turbine/compressor is around 154,000 rpm, which would destroy the starter.
@@FirstLast-tx3yj It does a few things actually. The most important would be retrieving the information sent from the computer or controller. It also controls the starter, ignition, and has a thermocouple attached to read the Exit Gas Temperature. Lastly, it controls the fuel distribution system given relays.
Every video Channel , our past senior team sheared off the nut unfortunately.. so the engine was pretty toast anyway. This was mostly a demonstration of how the parts fit together! But thank you for the advice.
Andrew Schippel absolutely. The jetcat software can have a decent learning curve, but after you get that down the engine performs well just about every time. Most of these small turbojet engines are similar, but each one has its own unique features, mostly in terms of software integration.
Andrew Schippel Yeah, it’ll come with the engine, fuel delivery components, GSU to control it, ECU, and other main parts. It’s a good engine to test static for engineering analysis purposes as well. Jetcat has smaller versions on their website too
Andrew Schippel oh it’s much simpler man, it’s literally plug and play. No programming is needed. To run static tests, you just need the app on a computer and can run it from there. Everything’s set up, just a few weird steps to get used to. Or, you can RC learn it to a controller to actually fly, which is all in the manual.
Why did you do that? If build build it together after that you NEED to balance the turbine shaft, compresser and turbine wheel or the engine wont last more than a minute and it will quite possibly explode.
Leo Goedecke Agreed. However, this video was just for educational purposes for future groups at my University. The engine didn’t operate before we started to disassemble it. This process was done to help visualize how the components of a jet engine integrate.

No you don't need to balance the shaft with turbine and compressor. I replace my bearing without balancing these parts...Now that engine coming up on the second bearing change 8yrs later. Just use a sharpie and mark the compressor and turbine wheel before removing the compressor bolt.
@@beauluftenburg3167 For a pretty simple design too! Single spool centrifugal compressor/turbine. Nozzle and combustion chamber are from stamped steel as well for ease of manufacturing
Faber Aksel what exactly do you mean? Our project was to increase the overall thrust to weight ratio of the engine. For our approach, we needed measurements of the turbine vanes and stator vanes. This video is solely for future hobby oriented or academic teams to understand how to disassemble the engine.
