Scenario:
Yesterday there was a 7.8 earthquake in the LA region. Today, a second earthquake has occurred in the Lake Elsinore area. Approximately 10,000 potential patients are travelling south to the San Diego region.
Our Burn Center and Trauma units have been impacted. Surge tents have been constructed outside the Hillcrest ED.
Rolling blackouts and freeway closures are impacting travel.
We are structurally sound at this time. All of our buildings are being evaluated for safety. Security has formed a perimeter and will be checking ID of hospital employees.
UC San Diego Health System participated in a communication exercise a day before with the County of San Diego and other healthcare partners in preparation for the full scale exercise which begins May 16, 2012
The Red Cross is helping us to reconnect families, including our staff and faculty, who may not be able to locate each other.
