I don't understand, people are angry when it sells out, then can a product a failure if it doesn't sell out inatantly. Which is it, I rather have the second so I can buy the product when I'm ready. I'm not picking up skaventide immediately, but I will pick it up

if you watch the video, i explain the situation clearly. if you just rush to the comments, and type stuff, its no wonder you dont understand. i def think its good if for a year or so, the edition launch box is still available, its a great set, and perfect for onboarding new players. i dont think FOMO marketing is good, and when it fails, it shows GW that its not sustainable. so relax, actually watch videos, and learn. but when a company does everything based on FOMO, then it doesnt work, like dominion, its def a failure. with dominion they offloaded all the copies to FLGs, and screwed them over. this time, nobody fell for it. so we will see this failure truly reflected in GWs sales/profits.

It's not about being angry, AoS is simply not even slightly popular compared to 40K. When it's a 40K box it sells out immediately. When it's AoS it does not. It's that simple. I just hope the lizards at GW has brains and are able realize this, so they don't apply the low SkavenTide sales numbers to future 40K boxes. Also there's hype for The Old World, so everyone is holding on to their money while waiting for The Empire and Chaos + Old World Terrain to finally be released.

ya i know a lot of people ordered in advance, instead of just showing up. but stores are def hesitant to buy a lot of sigmar stuff, after the dominion situation. the market is still full of leviathan boxes after a year, they were on sale at adepticon for $160 GW has saturated the market, and its starting to show! their no growth policy, with price increases, is just a bandaid for earnings, and def not sustainable. time to pay the piper!

ya, i'll def touch on it, if i dont do a specific video. GW has made more of these than dominion, and while i do see more popularity/excitement this time, its going to have the same issue. only this time FLGs got smart, and placed conservative orders. so some time this week, all the GW reps will be calling stores offering up more Skaventide, trying to dump the stock on them again. i suspect a second wave will go out, as its been fairly popular. but it looks like we are going to see GW secretly dumping the extras to liquidators, just like we saw with necromunda ash wastes. i fully expect to see these on amazon in a few months, for substantially less than retail MSRP.

Japan seemed to not have queues activated at all. I went to the online shop to look at something non-AoS about an hour after preorders opened and there was no queueing.

ya the queues were either super short, or not at all. i really think GW over hyped the new sigmar, and people have lost interest. i'm still excited, but i can tell its already fading with a lot of people

There are a couple of things to consider: - AoS does not have the player base of 40K - scalpers are not eager for this after Dominion - GW might have produced the needed numbers - cost of living crisis is hitting everywhere The benefit of this is that this might be the defacto starter box for a bit.

i agree with all your points. i also think, after dominion, FLGs were wise to GWs tactics of creating FOMO, then dumping mass stock on them, when it didnt sell well. i think this is good. i love that you can walk into a shop and pick up leviathan a year after launch, and i suspect this will be the case with skaventide, which is great! both launch boxes were awesome deals, and should be available for the majority of the edition. its great for onboarding new players, and if GW is going to lock the best deals to the launch boxes, the longer they are available, the better!

@@JamesSerapio ya they are dirty tricksters! they will just ship whatever they please, more or less, whatever serves them. as far as the rules. they look really good. they took a lot of sigmar stuff, and rolled it into 10th 40k, and its great. now aos 4.0 looks like they have rolled in a lot of 40k rules. so wouldnt be surprised if sigmar is just as good as 40k, if not better. we shall see! i'm excited!

Minus all the miniatures, what is the retail prices of the rest of the content? Is it worth it to get the box for the books, etc… only?

rule books tend to go for around $50-75. so its about $125 in books. the board and cards are about $75-100. so if you're not after the minis or terrain, at all... i'd just look for someone selling the contents individually and pick them up that way. should be able to get all the non mini/non terrain stuff for about $100 or less

My experience was really good for a change. All my information was saved for my account so I didn’t have to type in the whole bunch of stuff. A short five minute cue time which was probably actually 3 1/2 minutes. I pressed what I wanted. And oppressed by. My bank sent me confirmation that at least they took my money and I have to wait two weeks.

I ended up being up at midnight last night and succumbed to FOMO when I saw CMO's stock dropping semi-rapidly in the first few minutes. I felt a ripple in the force which I'm sure was a GW exec pulling a Mr Burns "excellent..." somewhere in the world. I'm not sure how hot it actually is but Herrick Games still has copies at the indie price if anyone struggles.

I had originally planned to buy the age of Sigmar magazine subscription, mostly for the freebies. Then I found out that the storm cast Spearhead was just some of the models out of the dominion box set. About a month ago I found dominion for like $115 on Amazon, which was cheaper than a spearhead plus everything that came with I just purchased that. Realistically, I have a spearhead now for the orcs and for Stormcast. In addition to everything else that came with that set.

ya i did a ton of research about stormbringer. and basically made a video talking about how it was a total scam. repacked dominion stuff, with rules that will expire before you're half way through. when you compare the savings to retail its not bad. when you compare it to actual market value, which is substantially less... you're paying almost double, to learn a game thats been remade, and your purchase is spread out over years... its a total scam

probably. it sort of goes both ways. the unopened stuff tends to hold its value. the opened stuff tends to fall. people will always want the older stuff, but with new models, a lot more supply comes on to the market (as people mostly upgrade to the new stuff)

the dominon box was def not intended to flood the market. GW offloaded the supply on retailers, when they realized it was a flop. It was a massive supply/demand issue. GW created a ton of supply, and the demand wasnt there, so retailers were stuck with a ton of product, and forced to lower the price, in order to create extra demand. this is not intentional. at all.

Saturdays are hopping at my large local store. Guess what is not being played, Age of Sigmar. Guess what is being played, The Old World. How long has it been since the Orc pre-order for OW? Three months since orcs dropped. People never wanted AoS, they just wanted Old World back. Get your head out of your ass GW. Our Star Wars Legion league has also been bigger than the 40k league.....

its all about the local community. i've never seen people play or even purchase old world stuff. i played fantasy back in the day, and it was a terrible game. but thats just my opinion, and probably why it failed the first time around. but i know there are groups around the world that love Old World, and Horus Heresy. but after playing Warhammer games almost exclusively for 30 years. i've found that 40k is the only real consistent game, that stays popular everywhere. we had a few people into star wars, and warmachine for a while, but both those have completely died.

for sure there is a lot of overlap. our 40k league is about 90% going to play in the sigmar league. but we have a few people that are exclusively interested in one or the other.

sigmar is fairly popular, but its no 40k. i'm not sure what your group looks like, i know there are pockets of people who still like Old World. but literally nobody in our area has any interest at all. i've heard that a lot. i think is a much smaller amount of people, mostly who are collecting and painting, and far less actually playing. but i'm curious how big your community is?

I know its been 10 years, but the death of WHFB and the cringe- awkward transition into AoS just killed my enthusiasm for sword and sorcery Warhammer. I've tried to get it back and I just haven't been able to. It's okay. I love 40k and I don't really need anything else at this point. Otherwise, I might've been into this. I wonder how many people feel the same way I do.

i've always preferred 40k, i like the fantasy setting, but sigmar took a long time to grow on me. the new lore, and flushing out the range with new models, has def opened me up more to sigmar though. 40k will always be king though

haha, i know the feeling. getting dominion for $100 or less was amazing, ash wastes at $150 i got a couple. but i do hate seeing the stores take the L... this time i know for sure they were far more cautious telling GW how many they wanted. many stores had them stacked to the ceiling for years. good business owners (the ones that survived) wont fall for it again

The models are great, but they’re rats. I don’t see the appeal personally. There’s plenty of other games/factions available. Rats make great pets, but as a fighting force, when their heads look like the rat that taught the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; sorry, but I’ll pass. Each to their own I guess.

It will be good if you recheck your price-savings estimate when all the products in Skaventide are released as individual products. I was lucky enough, here downunder, to get 2 @ 51% off. Cheap @ AU$220 (~US$149) than the US$265. While $149 is not 51% off $265, here in Aussie land we pay a price-hike for GW products. Thanks again for your effort!

glad you could find such a good deal, and avoid the GW aussie tax! with leviathan i was a couple bucks off on a couple things, but almost perfect on the total price. i suspect about the same with skaventide. i think people will be surprised with how expensive the ETB kits are going to be forward. in the past GW has sold them at a discount over regular kits, but after seeing the leviathan ETB stuff priced almost the same as multipart kits, i suspect this is the way GW will do it going forward.

In Germany as Leviathan was released the store manager was happy about over 20 pre orders in his store also 15 people was camping before store open in front. And as the boxes was delivered it was sold out in his store. Now on AOS Skaventide launch this time only 6 preoders.

ya i think sigmar will pick up momentum in time... but that being said, it will never be 40k, and GW just doesnt seem to understand that. they tried dragging out this release to create FOMO, tried sending out copies to anyone with a following, who will promise to only say good stuff... it clearly hasnt worked. people are too smart as consumers, and tired of GWs bs.

Edit: as of now there is no queue, Skaventide is still in stock on the GW website, but the Skaventide book is completely sold out. It literally just went on pre-order today, so it’s a bit too soon to call it a flop or a success. I got it early and I love everything in the box, with the sole exception of the box itself - it’s flimsy as crap. But the minis, the books, the ruler, everything is just top-notch. The Skaven will need a bump though because the Skaven army in the Skaventide box has, from what I’ve heard, been stomped in virtually any game played with the Skaventide Skaven; they’re not only getting slaughtered by the Sigmarines, which is expected since they’re the Poster Boys of AoS, but they’re being tore up by virtually every other faction as well. If you’re interested in buying the box I can tell you that I think that it’s worth every penny of its overly-inflated price. But if it doesn’t sell as much as GW hopes it will it’s absolutely possible that you might be able to pick it up in a year or so for far cheaper than its $250+tax price tag, like the Dominion box which I bought on Amazon a few months ago for $110.

ya i have made comments about the actual box quality quite a few times with the new stuff. for a premium product, its crazy they have switched to these trash boxes. the changes to the inner kill team set packaging have been nice though. i agree the box contents are awesome, and cant wait to get it. but GW relies on FOMO marketing, so if they dont sell out immediately its def a flop. releasing the 2 books LE & HB together was a mistake. they rely on the fomo to sell the LE books, and everyone just passed, and bought the regular one. as far as the skaven go, keep in mind its just the boxed set. things like the verminlord, and other key units add the survivability to the army, that isnt in the box, the reason you get so many, is they are supposed to die. i do think they will be fine in larger games, but agree the horde type army is not going to do particularly well against durable armies in small games. i've already got a couple boxes on order, and took advantage of dominion at half price as well. thanks for sharing

265 pounds. I don't know if I spend so much money on wargaming since I started interested in it since October 2022. And not in every project I hoped I will play actually did happen. And I'm not even sure this boxed set would be qualified as something more as skirmish (as for example large skirmish like in Sharp Practice) in most of systems I played (apart the Battletech which is basically like tank platoon level combat). And this is only the beginning of costs needed to start to play.

ya its def not for the faint of heart. 72 models is far from a starter set. i think for most games, a skirmish is like 10 models per side. this is basically 2 big armies, and a boat load of other stuff.

@@WarHammerMan In a AoS scale it is a big army. Probably in Warhammer Fantasy Battle it would be smaller army. For example when I made a army rosters back in 2000 (I didn't played, but whatever) for 2000 pts Skaven army I had 1 general, 3 heroes, 120 core troops, 3 special weapons, 15 gutter runners. So almost 150 rats on the table. Now it will be hardly 50 in Skaventide. The crisis after the end of the Old World (I mean WFB), was so big, that even Skaven hordes got smaller! Entire armies got smaller. And 2000 pts was pretty standard army cost that time.

the company relies on FOMO, and under producing to keep prices high... so when they dont sell out, the scheme doesnt work. its not hyperbole, its called basic market dynamics. but i'm not your dad or your professor, just a guy that understands economics, and the relationship between supply, demand, and prices, much better than you do. look at Dominion, perfect example of how lack of demand, led to oversupply issues, that drove down prices by 50%. but i'm sure you already knew that. so rather than turning your nose up, and yelling Hyperbole over sales, look at the actual way the market works, and understand, that if a product that is "limited while supplies last" doesnt sell out, its a flop, because it will be on sale for years to come, at a fraction of the price... ex dominion, underworlds, ash wastes... the list goes on

GW wants to address their shortage problems, it's why another facility is being built in Nottingham to address this problem. it's not intentional FOMO, they're going to make enough Skaventide boxes just as they did Dominion.

i dont think you are educated on what happened with dominion, so i'll share. GW claimed rightfully so, dominion was their best selling fantasy product to date. what they didnt tell you, is they tricked the FLGs into taking all the excess supply. so they required stores to give them numbers in advance of release. they said the shipments would come in 3 waves over months, and the supply was extremely limited. they shipped the first wave, then GW tried to sell direct to customers online, for two weeks, when this failed, and the product flopped. GW suddenly shipped wave 2 and 3 all at once, to retailers. dumping their entire supply on the market. this flooded the market, and caused many less savvy retailers to have a massive supply, with no demand. that is why to this day, you can still buy dominion for 50% off... so did gw sell all their produced copies of dominion? yes. were they honest when they said it was the best selling fantasy product to date? yes. did they completely F**K over FLGs and dump the entire supply on them? also YES. so if this is your idea of good business, and a success, creating FOMO and then F**king overt the retailers, than you and i have a completely different view of how business works. this situation is also why so many retailers were placing substantially smaller orders for Skaventide. they didnt want to get stuck holding the bag... again. so what i suspect will happen. GW will have created more skaventide than dominion, to make sure they top their previous edition numbers. the retailers have ordered far less, because they dont want to get screwed again. so GW will have to dump the excess supply they created on to a liquidator, in order to save face. maybe i'll be wrong. but probably not, i'm pretty good at predicting these things, and have a very good sense of the actual market, and what goes on.

Limited to 5? Over here in EU it is limited to 10 per. Since the Tokens are limited to about 23000 they did sell less than that on their own webstore. In case you are willing to pay +60€ for the tokens, you still can. But then scouting ebay for the 'old' tokens might be viable, too and cheaper.

@@WarHammerMan I think 40K has a bit of an advantage in that the alternatives are few and far between. Not a lot of places to get space Orks, space elves, or space nuns with space guns except 40K. Age of Sigmar has to compete with all the other fantasy worlds out there for attention. Where it's flipped for other companies Pathfinder sells better than Starfinder, or how TSR struggled to get a sci fi game to stick.

As for beauty, the heroic aesthetic of the stormcast has been covered in spikes and skulls with weird nose armor. And the the skaven are just ugly rat folk without any redeeming features excellent sculpts but static and not at all interesting compared to other ranges.

I bought mine from Wayland along with the book but I did test the que at GW to see how long it was . It was an hour just after 10 am, then I checked about 11.30 and it was about 35 mins. I only stayed in the que about 10 mins each time. Until skaventide I had zero interest in stormcaste but since seeing these new miniatures I'm as excited for them as the new skaven.

i completely understand. i used to golf regularly, or play video games. i would easily spend $200 on a day of golf, not to mention the clubs, balls, etc. with video games i would spend hundreds of dollars, and have nothing to show for it a few months later, when i moved on to the next one. i have been playing warhammer for decades, and have dozens of beautifully painted armies, worth far more than what i paid for them. so for me its a $ and time investment, and its my main hobby. this is not the case for most people.

Pretty surprised on this one. I would have thought that skaven would be way more popular than swamp orks. And i thought theyd have made a lot less seeing as this box is crazy value compared to previous starters, them normally being greedy and all. ya time will tell. sigmar is more popular now, than 3 years ago, but its nowhere near 40k popular. GW cant seem to get this into their heads. also shops got burned with dominion, so are intentionally under-ordering, so they dont get stuck again. this is a really nice box. kruleboyz were not very popular, but apparently people arent as excited about skaven as i am. i think this box will do well, but i dont expect to see stacks of them in stores like we did with dominion, because those shops either went out of business, or learned from the past, and wont fall for the FOMO marketing again.

Its sad cause AOS is a far more interesting setting than 40k. Also you can tell the teams really love aos. they but a ton of work in the art and the models.
