We used to go to the Salvation Army music camp at Pine Lake. I remember the thunder and lightening storms that would go through usually at night. My bunk bed had the only window in our cabin every kid that wasn't afraid was up top in my bed with face plastered to the window to watch the light show. Those storms never disappointed us. It was later when I didn't go to camp the this tornado went through.

I think I used to drive past this lake when I would go between home and college in Three Hills. The flatness of the plains with the proximity to the rockies make it a good breeding ground for tornadoes. One hit Three Hills during summer break between years at my collage, giving rise to Lawnmower man, lol

I was supposed to be there camping when this tornado hit, I was told that the tornado went through where we were supposed to be. But because of a family emergency the week before wasn’t able to go. I often thought what would have happened if I had been there?

We are working on the sound quality issues. In some cases these programs will not play properly on certain devices. We are working to provide a link to a different audio version. In the meantime if you use a headset you will be able to hear the audio correctly. If the video has a reload it means the audio has been repaired.

A meteorologist...how amazingly convenient. You have to laugh. Hot and muggy in Canada, wow. I live in Australia. December 2019 my hubby and I travelled through central Australia on our way to Adelaide. The heat was 45 degrees centigrade to 49 degrees centigrade on average. A couple of days it was over 50 degrees. OMG, it was horrific. Refrigeration trucks struggled with their cooling systems and Road Trains pulling two to three dogs were blowing tyres because they were melting.

Hey, @Bad Day HQ. I also can't get thru with the Canoe River episode, same as the Prairie Storm. Did you set those episodes for Canada only? Or I'm theorizing that RU-vid generally did that itself. Are you able to reupload those videos since I tried again, and I couldn't watch those newer eps that I never saw before?

Any chances of doing the Sioux Lookout fire of '67, as many survivors are still around, or the Fort McMurray Fire

7/14/2000. I'm glad they're right and got this date into the 20th century where it belongs. 2000 was the last year of that century, not the first year of the 21st century which would begin in 2001 (as would the 3rd millenium AD as there was no year 0 AD.

This is the absolute WORSE place to be during a tornado - tents and RVs would be tissue paper in even a weak tornado, never mind the vacation cottages. I'm surprised they didn't have a storm shelter on site, since there were permanent campsites and cottages, and was subject to periodic severe weather. A storm shelter might have saved many of those lives. Keep in mind, though, the Pine Lake tornado was a "wedge" - a tornado wider than it was tall, nearly a mile wide. Though it was rated only F3, it likely was far more powerful; it simply didn't strike any reinforced buildings to give it a higher rating. For someone in the know about tornadoes, a large violent tornado striking something open and fragile like the Pine Lake campsite? That's a nightmare scenario, and it's amazing to me that more people weren't killed.

@@BadDayHQ Thank you! I've studied tornadoes most of my life and this was a pretty awful one. I've seen pictures of the actual Pine Lake tornado taken by storm chasers - it looked like death. Thank you for telling the story of the folks in Pine Lake - it may help save lives in the future.
