@@NG_v1 Love it. Makes me think of the check just before the endgame that is basically: Drama: Don't go straight in for it. Lead in by mentioning x!!! You: X! Drama: Why would you listen to me? I'm wrong all the time!
@@JB-xl2jc a lot of your skillchecks say straight up "This was a terrible choice" on that part in specific, Suggestion's however was my favorite. "Brother, you should put me infront of a firing squad. I have no words for how I just failed you." And it was fucked, and funny.
That was the point where I wanted to break down, hearing him quietly pleading to make the shot But I kept going despite welling up, because I had to keep it together for Kim
I got it with like 29% and only realized after reading up on the event after how lucky I was. Also got CRAZY lucky for the end sequence (everything on the final island) and hit every single check, including two below 20%. Guess my game was possessed or something.
Me neither! No joke, once the tribunal was over l walked away from my computer and just collapsed on the bed and started crying like l've actually just survived a shootout
Who'd win; three murderous soldiers with decades of experience and bullet proof suits or a *super cop* with blood running through his narcotics stream and his binoclard baby sitter?
For those who want a horrific fun fact about using the firebomb instead of the gun. Not only does the mercs bulletproof armor not protect them from fire, it actually makes their deaths even more excruciating due to the heat build-up. Korty is literally cooking alive in addition to being on fire.
-And yet, running on adrenaline and vengeful directed rage, manages to lodge a bullet in your lower body. Just to spite you as he becomes a charred corpse.
I want to point out that there's only two times in the entire game where Kim invokes the word "god": After he misses trying to shoot down the hanged man, and before he shoots the merc through the helmet eye slits.
In the german version it says +1 Kim trusts you +2 Kim BLINDLY trusts you It's intresting because in that situation he really cannot see his assailant and blindly trusts your words. What a great game
Nothing says "I am an officer of the law" like throwing a molotov cocktail at a bloodthirsty mercenary in broad daylight in front of the whole neighborhood.
@@Ptaku93 I played through the game with the Sensitive starting build and my tie started talking to me so I listened and it led me to acquiring a molotov cocktail.
To serve and protect is considered a motto among true blue believers for a reason. I treat muh workers like a mother hen tbh fam, and the moment I knew my bois would be hitting the floor I beat the mercs to the punch.
I must replay the game and earn this happy ending. Poor Titus and his posse didn't survive my first attempt at the tribunal. I went to it without the gun, imagine that! Does having the gun help during the tribunal?
@@Ptaku93 There's still hope. If you don't have your gun, if your Inland Empire skill is high enough, you have a chance to craft a molotov that can still serve the same purpose as a loaded gun when the time comes. Just don't expect it to come without a cost in its own way. Bratan.
Finally somebody said this correctly. You have no idea how many times I've seen people say "not the hero we need but the one we deserve" like bro you're so full of yourself
The tribunal is one of the most intense and memorable moments in video game history, as far as I’m concerned. Standing in the middle of two armed groups with no weapon of my own... I was shitting bricks the whole time.
Then once you make the shot, the shift to the visual calculus theme is so nerve-wracking. I had a 50/50 chance on dodging the bullet, and that theme combined with the quick analysis by my skills ("0.6 seconds left until total annihilation") was amazing. I never actually felt such tension before in a video game fight.
True, And all are done through texts too. I can't think of any triple AAA games in these recent years manage to pull such an intent panicking kind of feeling like Disco Elysium does to me.
I really thought I died the first time around and let it happen, I was so sad, but it felt fitting. But then I was given the choice to keep on fighting and even saved Kim! Incredible
Lol the "I am the Law" bit feels out of place in your sentence but in a good way. Like you have a compulsion to make sure *everyone* knows you are the Law.
I love that in Korean, it say “Lieutenant trust you.” and “Kim TRULY trusts you.” Shows lot of weight in that concept of trust simply by changing up the way you address them.
I really love the guitar in this, makes it feel like an old Wild West shootdown (which I guess it is!) Very reminiscent of the Call of Juarez Gunslinger main theme (I listened to that so many times, this song reminded me just of it).
Reaction speed - trivial: “Boiadero quick draw time” Composure - impossible: “*quick* draw? I don’t know about that one, chief. I’m barely keeping your hands from shaking right now..”
Logic- Medium: success The only way to get that double barrel 9mm is that Ruby killed herself, considering Harry carrying it that means the suicide is likely canonical. Volition- Easy: success Or they did it to look cool in the cover art. Suggestion- Easy: A cool man with a cool gun, nice.
This scene was the most tense, genuinely tragic damn failure my sorry ass cop ever failed at. There the sorry ass cop ran straight between hell-bent war parties and spoke truth. Hate and evil did their damn best to kill him, but I guess my cop hadn't said sorry enough yet.
No words would be enough to explain how I feel about this moment in the game, I liked the Hardie Boys, I was so worried about Kim, I had no idea what to do. I felt a huge despair when everything was out of my control, this game is wonderful, it was the most immersive moment I've ever had in a game
It's interesting how Kortenaer made his brother sort of... dignified again. When you first see the body, it's just a stripped blob of muscles. The only remarkable things about it pertain to the case. It's very... dehumanized. But once Kortenaer talked about him, I felt like he talked about an actual person that lived and deserved to be remembered. It's not just some corpse you investigate at the beginning of the game. Although it probably wasn't intentional, it's of note that games, films, and books rarely go for this kind of thing.
That’s one thing the deserter is 100% wrong about in the most tragic way: The Bougie and Fascists are inarguably human beings, INCREDIBLY human beings. They may be nothing but corrupted soul trapped in flesh, but by god they are human from when they are born until they die. It’s comforting to see absolute corrupted agents of evil as nothing but a nonhuman soulless automaton that exists only to defeat. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and shaking when you accept evil has a soul and thought and feelings, exactly as much as you do. The colonel was evil. The colonel was the weapon of capital. But he was a man with a brother, a mother, a childhood, a desire for closeness and being seen. And that hurts.
Hands down, Tribunal was the most intense moment I've ever had in a game. They did an incredible job with this song, it truly added to how tense and desperate this moment was.
I understood like, only %40 of this game with all those extra non-english words used, political, scientific and other such terms (not a native speaker). But holy hell did this game left a *deep* mark on me.
Definitely not an easy read, considering sometimes you won't get an explanation of for hours, and there are also strange things like "tare" that may or may not be a mistranslation.
@@skyemegakitty Yeah I was like, are those tares, just empty bottles? Let me google it, aaand it has no connection to it in any way. Just assumed devs made it up themselves and moved on
@@boran2796 Tare: an allowance made for the weight of the packaging in order to determine the net weight of goods. Tare is used in the game to mean empty bottles (packaging for liquids). So I wouldn't say there's no connection, but I've definitely never seen the word used in that sense before.
Would you tell me not-easy-to-read-shit? I am russian and they transleted it Only, like, a mouth ago. But still dont miss much lore or information thou
My first playthrough I went in without my gun. I had Ruby's, but no bullets, so the only thing I could do was talk the mercs down. I will never forget that stress.
There are many, many Harrys in this world. Dirty, beat down, innocence lost, with hearts of gold. Please remember this, as while there are many Harrys, there are few tribunals at which they can redeem themselves, and fewer still will be those that see this moment of redemption.
BIG OL' SPOILERS HERE I just finished the game today, not only do i just love this theme and had to give it another lesson, god this sequence was amazing, that shiver I got when walking up to the whirling and harry saying "im not ready for this" and me having no idea what hes referring to, then the whole situation, i was holding my breath almost the whole time and clutching my fists hoping to GOD that my skill checks would pass. I did not get the best outcome to what I have found online since (dont worry I was able to save kim), but every step of the way I was tense, I loved every second of this game, the way it can jump to goofy antics with your straight man partner to back to back officers against immesurable odds, man it felt awesome... and pretty sad, guess that sums up a lot of the game now i think about it doesnt it
The design of Ruud is, to me, what really sells the mercenaries as seriously dangerous. Their most heavily armed member, fully clad in near-indestructible armour and wielding a rifle meant for destroying vehicles, turns out to be a frothing lunatic who barely forms coherent sentences outside of gurgling to himself inside his helmet... Best part of the game by a long shot
I know this is incredibly strange and/or really stupid, but this was the first moment in a video game where I was pumped for a combat scenario instead of dreading it.
Does nobody else recognize this? It's almost exactly "Armed With Death" from Telltale's Season 1 of TWD. I went into sony vegas and mashed them up, very crudely, but the horns, the chord change riffs, and the strings almost all go together. I frankly want to hear someone properly mash the two together as a cover/remix.
Suggestion: There's no talking your way out of this one. The mercenaries are blinded by their bloodlust. They only use vengeance as a mask to excuse their need for violence. It is all they are good for and the only place for them in this world. Without it, they would cease to exist. And that is *not* an option for them. Narrator: It would take a true hero among heroes to de-escalate this situation. And you're no hero, you're just a - Inland Empire: An insignificant speck? A hollow shell of an ape, pretending to have purpose and meaning bur just going through the motions? What even are you? Authority: A responsibility shirking degrnerate who disn't *deserve* to reclaim their gun and badge. Empathy: A brokenhearted mess, of use to nobody. Volition: It doesn't matter. Right now, *you* are all that stands between these people and a fucking bloodbath. Espirit de Corps: And your brother-in-arms. He will need you as much as you will need him. Half-Light: Shit. Fuck. Shit. Fuck. Fuckfuckfuck. It's going down! Now or never!
