Discount Pledge Buy Back Changes - Star Citizen (February 2022) 

I have a feeling you may be right.

Which in and of itself is a little shady. I make an arrangement to sell you a television a year ago and I tell you that pay me whenever and that it'll be $100. You pay me $100 and then you go on eBay and sell it for $300 I now come after you for the extra $200 even though I don't own the TV anymore.

The BMM might be the reason they're nuking old warbonds in buyback. Expect another jump in BMM pricing this Alien week.

In this scenario, neither ship A or B have gone up in price. The difference is the warbond discount is no longer being applied when attempting to buy it back. I tend to just keep everything I plan on needing in my hangar, but the "warbond" specific scenario above is what seems to be the pain point for some of the community. I fully expected we would end up here when they started the 0 dollar CCU changes some years ago now. Cheers!

I feel the same. I still have hope for the game butcthe whole game and game hardware industry have realized that gamers will keep bending over for them. Hopefully people will stop taking it long enough to force them to stop hiking prices on everything.

I was wondering about the grey market too as an after thought. I wonder if that's the intended target.

Hi Akash. My statement is to your last point given it was a 'change in the night' type rewrite of the docs without heads up to the community that seems to be a sore point for them. If you have a citation where CIG stated they would be changing the policy on discounted pledge buy backs, that would be great to share with the community! Cheers!

There are a couple of things here. - You can cross chassis upgrade ships to other ships within a package ( ship upgrades ) but you can only go more expensive, not cheaper - You can melt the package and then buy another (cheaper) package with the store credit, but the remainder will sit in your account as store credit - You cannot sell ships in game yet, but you can buy them with in game currency. I would Just pick the ship that speaks to you the most, and get the rest in game. Don't stress too much about it :)

It's more a case of someone buying an item for $A. They then "change their mind" and refund it for the sale price ($A) in "store credit" (which they likely immediately use for another purchase), but keep a record that they had purchased the item in the past in case they change their mind later and wish to buy it again (buy back queue). Later, the price for the item rises to $B and they return to the store to purchase it, saying I paid $A last time, so you have to sell it to me at that price... The "Buy Back Queue" isn't items that the player "owns" (or even a "quote" on a price), but instead is a record of items they had purchased, then "changed their mind" about and received a "store credit" refund for (thus "cancelling" the sale) meaning the item had returned to the "ownership" of the store, who are free to set whatever price they want on it regardless of whether the buyer is a "new sale", or an "I decided returning it was a bad idea and want to buy it again".

While I don't necessarily disagree with this take, the issue people are having with it from my understanding is this. CIG had a policy that explicitly stated if you sold discounted / warbond type pledges for $A, you could melt and by them back for $A even if the price changed to $B. This policy changed overnight without warning and was retroactively applied to purchases that were already made.

@@Brictoria_1 except you're missing the fact that they said to the person hey at a later date you can buy it back for x price. I don't strongly feel one way or another about this other than cig seriously should have given people notice. This would have made them a ton of money as well as everybody rushed to lock up their prices. It's like they know that there's already a bunch of people pissed at them and they figured well just like a Band-Aid we should just rip it off all at once and piss people off the most they're going to be pissed off. I don't really like the way that they have been treating the people that keep them and their company afloat and literally pay their paychecks. I for one canceled my subscription after the whole "our customers are distracting us from doing our work and therefore we didn't make the goals that we set for ourselves" debacle. They also won't get another penny from me until they apologize for that. I've spent thousands and would have spent thousands more. Not now. I'm good at holding grudges. They literally turned somebody who would have tried to talk anybody in to buying into this game into somebody that will do everything he can to stop somebody from buying in. And they did this in the matter of a month. I know I'm not the only one and they don't seem to care.

The CCU chain game is still there though, they've just removed the perk of keeping discounts over time. A lot less incentive to play the chain game with the changes, but it's still as confusingly playable as ever. I've never played that nonsense myself, but the people who do play are contributing a significant portion of funding to the project. Definitely a slap in the face to those people.

Yes. They should have told everyone and given a window of time. If there is enough pushback they may do this but they seem pretty hardened on their changes even from an outcry from the community.

I don't think they should have done it at all, warning or not. It was used as an incentive for people to fund the project, knowing that if they paid for an asset at a discount prior to that asset existing, then they could always maintain that discount. It's a very common early-access strategy, offering a discount for future things, and has been distilled over a decade within the start citizen funding model. Changing that strategy now after a decade of people relying on it, by simply removing the incentive without warning is screwed up no matter how you slice it, even if they gave a warning.
