Weldon sir, my favorite method is no: 4 . I'm planning on practicing it on my ridges for mini setts. It will also save me alot of space, maybe on wide ridges. Hope it would be applicable?

This is very great. On the 5th one the second sack can take up to two layers of seed yam. This is good strategy I will use to produce 1000 seed yams for next planting season.

Method No 4 will likely yield 8-10 inches each of the seed yam and that's a superb produce, talking about method 5 , I will recommend that all the half sacks be opened at the bottom. Good luck to us... 2024 will be a whole lot different, Thank you Mentor 😊

@Naturesheritagenetwork

Fertilizers can be manure or inorganic. So the answer is NO yams in sacks MUST be fed to do well. 'Garbage in, garbage out'

How can I get yam for this method 5? Is it not too late to plant yam in sack now in late March of the year?
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 4 месяца назад
Not late at all. Yam in sacks can be done anytime. I have planted in dry season and had good harvest in May. The major thing is to have water for irrigation

Please is it good to mix the soil and poultry manure before planting? Or is it better to apply the manure after planting? Which is better? And what ratio of soil to poutry manure?
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 8 месяцев назад
Ratio 1: 4 is fair enough. Too much organic manure can make the developing tubers to rot with time. For me, I prefer mixing the manure with charcoal dust to form BIOCHAR and the put that at the bottom of the sack before filling with my soil. That serves as a reservoir. I can also apply a little quantity on top after germination. Also I can make manure tea by soaking manure in water for about 3 to 5 days , then use the water in a diluted form to water my sacks. There are many ways. Find what is convenient for you.
@olaibrahim3933

Why is your emphasis only on how to plant more of seed yams sir??
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 4 месяца назад
I have done a lot on ware yams. Also seed yams take a larger part of production cost. Yam farmers would confirm this. So to cut cost, grow your seed yams. Finally, seed yam farming is very lucrative, it's always a win win situation. Its majorly to make money. If you have leftovers, u plant them yourself.💪
