In the Blue Ridge Parkway, high up in the Great Craggy Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, is the Craggy Gardens. The Craggies are known for the exposed surfaces, or “balds,” found at this high altitude, which can only be found via the most scenic hiking route up the mountain and through gorgeous garden tunnels. In spring, travelers can see what makes the Craggy Gardens extra special: the show-stopping display of colorful wildflowers that bloom along these high slopes. Many years ago I used to spend a great deal of time in this region, and I miss it greatly. I'm hoping within the next 2-3 years I will be living there as I near retirment, it calls to me like no other place I've ever been.

Just road this route in October with the motorcycle riding club I belong to. It is one of the best roads to ride not matter the time of year. Just beautiful!

We lived just over the mountains in Newportt, TN and in Pigeon Forge. The view from tthe balds are unreal, with the smoke rising, the showing that change, the colors and soften as the sun shifts. Yes, ALL the roads including US highways are narrow and these mountains are not the newer ones but old mountains that have been wearing away for eons. Lots of sharp curves. I lived in the Rockies and the roads and mountains are very different. There is a softness to the area, a peaceulness, no matter the season. .. I miss living up there!

It's funny everything is relative... When you said narrow road and showed that highway I was thinking more of the width of the footpath you showed:) To me narrow is where the mirrors on both sides are dragging through the hedges each side lol.
