Tarantulas in the video:
Typhochlaena seladonia - Brazilian Jewel Tarantula,
The Brazilian Jewel Tarantula, also known as Typhochlaena seladonia, is a small and incredibly beautiful tree-dwelling tarantula from Brazil. Its eye-catching metallic green-blue colors and detailed markings make it a popular choice for pet owners. Female adults can grow up to 2 inches across, with males being a bit smaller. These tarantulas enjoy a semi-humid environment, but be careful not to make it too damp, as that's a common mistake. Good airflow in their enclosure is also important.
Uniquely, the Brazilian Jewel Tarantula is one of the few arboreal trap-door tarantulas available as pets. They create amazingly camouflaged trapdoors on tree bark and branches. As ambush predators, they patiently wait for prey to approach their expertly crafted burrow before quickly striking from their hidden door. Watching them grow is a fascinating experience, with females taking around 2 years to reach maturity.

Definitely get the one you think is best. These are expensive, though, and not for beginners. May I suggest getting your start with a jumping spider. They are credited with helping people get over their arachnophobia, easy to care for, and the spider that helps get people into the hobby.

@UrbanTarantulas
@UrbanTarantulas Год назад
So how is it in Australia, please do educate me. Is there not a tarantula hobby over there? Do they not allow importation of tarantulas or other animals in the pet trade? Im very curious.
@russellyoung1
@russellyoung1 Год назад
@@UrbanTarantulas You can only keep Australian species, I have 5. There are 3 genera, Selenotypus, Selenotholus and Phlogius. There are MANY undescribed species e.g. Selenotypus sp. Exevale, Phlogius sp. Kuranda Only 2 available species are described! They are Phlogius Crassipes, also known as Selenocosmia Crassipes and Selenotypus Plumipes, but most people keep the undescribed ones. Search up Phlogius and look at all the 'species' that come up in autocorrect. Their tenmrement is kinda interesting, Selenotypus look and act like new worlds but don't kick hairs but instead stridulate. Very gentle. Phlogius look very similar to Chilobrachys Huahini but darker and are less bolty and more docile They don't allow you to import any live things from overseas. You need a permit to import plants and importing tarantulas is illegal - you can't even get a permit for that. A reptile park near me keeps Brachypelma Hamoori and more (I saw a Parahybana once and they have about 20 other species), but they only have them because they are a zoo. There is still a hobby and I know at least 15 people who keep Aussie tarantulas
@UrbanTarantulas
@UrbanTarantulas Год назад
@@russellyoung1 Thats very interesting, thanks for sharing that. So is this for ALL animals, reptiles too with these restrictions? Also, I did look up some of those species. So nothing too colorful. I'm sure they are interesting to keep, and they have their own characters. They sound more like old worlds because of the stridulation I suppose. Lots of baboon's do that.
@russellyoung1
@russellyoung1 Год назад
@@UrbanTarantulas Yeah, all brown except for some Phlogius PQ113 individuals. Same with reptiles but you can get a license for that unlike tarantulas

@silklair5963
@silklair5963 Год назад
You didn’t ask me but I’m replying, is it the one where they “accidentally” killed the snake they were told 10 times not to kill? I thought that was horrible. I only saw New England reptiles short but they shouldn’t have killed the snakes. Its just law enforcement trying to protect species they don’t know about and just ending up harming them more
