I’m so tempted (I’m in NYC on a work trip.) Also I’m guessing that S dufouri is gravid and the babies are going to eat moms. That’s going to be crazy! Stunningly adorable and mom of the year award!
Seeing Kat embrace maximalism in her enclosures brings me so much joy. Obviously you don’t need to fill it to the brim with every thing possible every time, but seeing an empty jumper enclosure makes me so sad bc they deserve a whole interior designer 😭
oooh i need to get jumpers from tom! i haven't had those colors yet. but i did get the velvets too! I named the white one vanilla bean but i call her bean and the black and white oreo.
Hey Kat. The Stegodyphus lineatus I had two myself in the UK. They both matured to females, which I then gifted to Jerimie at Jerimie's Wild World. As far as I know, he has paired them and is waiting on egg sacks. You are correct in saying they are not communal, but I found them to be calm and very cute spiders 😊
All stegodyphus are communal. I’ve kept various different stegodyphus including Dumicola, tibialis and Lineatus and all are kept in communals and doing well.
Hi Kat! New subscriber here! I’ve had a fear of spiders since I was a teen, I am 30 now. You make them seem more cute and friendly. I am still working through my fear because they can be creepy with their legs 🥹 but I love your content, I’ve binged since last night. Question: what camera do you use?
Oh my gosh, I have the same shirt as you and it was so weird to see you wearing it for some reason like, you're an actual real person who is out in the world buys the same shirt as me and not just a person I watch on TV 😂 I love all the new babies 💜
Kat do you set up enclosures for people? If not, you should! Nobody creates enclosures like you. You're probably too busy but if you wanted extra $$ you could sell your unique style of spider houses!
If you don't mind me asking, I also picked up a Stegodyphus dufouri from Tom! Do you feel like the enclosures you housed them in are more of a "they'll grow into them size" or do you think that size is best for Ferns current size? Was considering going with something smaller since they tend to be less active then other species
Are the African velvet spiders wild caught? I recently picked one up from my local reptile store and they couldn’t tell me much about them. I’m just afraid it might be a gravid female
Do you still have the communal species, I think it’s pronounced stego-dyphus, like stego-saurus Edit: also stego is the Greek word for roofed or covered and dyphus is the Latin word for deep
That was my reading on it but sometimes the vowel sounds get whacky. Looked it up and it's stego dih-phus, short i sound. I was thinking stego- diephus. Oops.
I think i used to saw one Jumping spider, it was a female, she was a size of my nail on my thumb, she's purely white and found out shes a Paraphidippus Fartilis, shes a rare and a Elegant little spider but she is like a super gentle little gal, i kept her for like a little caring, feeding her basically flies and other things that those little fellas eat and a few days later i just release her back onto the trees, i have to let her go somehow cause keeping a jumping spider is a Big responsibility
The third Jumping Spider you put in (the peach one), when looking head-on eye-to-eye it looks like she has a unibrow. Hahaha. Beautiful little creatures and SOOOO intelligent.
Hi Kat! Been watching your videos the past months and you have pulled me over the edge to get into spiders. I love getting some inspiration from your fun enclosures! I do have been sitting with this question for a while; how do you heat your spider enclosures? Or is it just warm enough where you live, so you don’t have to use heating? Because I’ve been told certain ‘tarantulas’ should be kept at around 25 grades celcius AND so are jumping spiders? Love from Belgium!
I just bought a beautiful female jumper from Tom! Thanks for this video, Kat! I've been trying to find a female adult jumping spider for some time now. I ALMOST got one of these lovely velvet spiders too, but if she ended up being gravid, I couldn't bare to see her eaten by her babes 😢
I don't know if you've used these names already but since they remind you of other jumping spiders you've had I'm suggesting these White - oolong Orange - squash 2nd orange - mandarin
Do you think... they are okay for first-time spider owners? I am still kind of afraid handling them, so if the velvet spiders are like... shy and will avoid me, but I can look at them whenever I want, I am pleased with this...
I would have to have those temporary tattoos done as permanent tattoos; just take one of each to a tattoo artist & ask if they could do them, maybe have them scan them into their computers.
Your first little lady is my dream spood! She's such a beautiful little lady. I live where Reagals live in abundance if you want to come find a few babies with me.
I love your shirt! Also you have peeked my interest in enjoying all these babies. I was really nervous around spiders till I started to watch you! Thank you!!
