My dad worked 35 years in a mental institution and retired in the '90s. He said this was hands down the most authentic portrayal of a patient/ client. Very few could appreciate this level of acting.

Thorton pulled off "Wholesome, mentally challenged, and unapologetically homicidal" in that film better than anyone ever could have. Great movie!

I love this scene, how the cashier handles it. He could’ve acted all annoyed by the questions, but instead he talked to him like anyone else and assisted him. More or less walking him through the entire process. I think people should take a lesson from this scene. Treat everyone with the same objective level of respect even if the customer says something goofy. I aspire to be like this daily at work.

Billy Bob Thornton wrote, directed, starred in and won an Oscar for this Best Adapted Screenplay. He can be an azzhole, but I try to take his own childhood trauma into account. It produced a masterpiece.

And with one film, the way my dad talked when he was drunk was changed forever.

My sister got to meet him in probably 2004 if I had to guess. Even before I knew about that he was always one of my favorite actors but for her to say it was the most bizarre experience she’d had simply because he was just so normal, she described it along the lines of “it’s almost like he doesn’t know who he is, or just didn’t care that kinda blew my mind. now he’s become my favorite and my sister has since passed but that picture is actually my Lock Screen. How small the world truly is and how beautiful it can be. I only hope I can meet him one day too.

I did landscaping one summer and we convinced one of the younger guys that sling blade was a comedy. Just by quoting it “mmm mustard and biscuits”. He went home to watch it and had his girlfriend come in when it was starting. She asked him what he was watching and he said “Sling Blade, everyone at work says it’s hilarious” She replied with “uh huh” and left the room. When he showed up at work the next day, the look of betrayal on his face, I will never get that out of my head.

Even Billy Bob didn't go "full retard"... An awesome movie. Watched this when it opened in Sydney here in Australia because Mum was a Dwight Yoakam fan so I went with her. So glad I did. Loved this film and still do to this day.

Sling Blade (1996) was NOT directed my Jim Jarmusch. It was written and directed by the great Billy Bob Thornton. And for a really good time get zooted and watch it as a dark comedy. It’s fucking hysterical.
