One mitigation tactic I use against the pests in this climate is to put little "lizard hotels" around the inner empty space of the garden beds where the activity is most prominent. When they move in, a lot of worm and fly damage seems to stop. Gardens with more structural elements(fences, trellising, etc) or overgrown types of foliage may also find warblers visiting eating the aphids from the undersides of the leaves. 🤗🤗

I do romaine head lettuce and have NO bug damage! Also 10A. Seeds are from Seed The Stars, so they’re central Florida adapted. All my other lettuces I do cut and come again. My three favs for this time of year are dino kale, tatsoi, and chijimisai.

I'm pushing it in NE FL, still planting cold weather crops and some spring crops. I do have frost covers but only been covering the tomatoes, beans and peppers that are still going. Trial and error, ready to reseed anything that doesn't like my wild plans!

I never want to correct a content creator, however I would like to add this comment to your statement about worms not liking the heat of Florida. It's true they don't like the direct sunlight but it is also true that they like the cold even less. I've been doing vermicomposting for years here in central Florida. I've learned to put my worm bins in the shade verses direct sunlight. Also, cover them if you are going to get a lot of rain. They do well and provide me with lots of compost and worm castings. It has taken me many years to get it right, and it takes many months to get a finished product. There is a lot of information online to help (some good and some not so good). I hope people will attempt vermicomposting, using red wiggles are the best. Thanks Jackie for all your videos. Please tell me the name of the red plants in the background at 19.11 in the video, I was given one and I don't know what it is.

My home Depot still has seeds this year. They put what they had left on the end aisles. Not too many tomatoes left but at least they didn't throw away the seeds like they did last year.

I hope you had a great vacation! I have noticed I do best with cut and come again for all my greens and lettuces. I think they grow better when I take the outer leaves before they get a chance to get too big and flop on the soil, get diseases or eaten by pests. I want to get more tomato seeds too, I can't wait to see what kind you plant! I really want the purple galaxy from baker creek but they don't have it for sale until next year. I found a variety called Tropic Tomato from southern exposure that I'm going to try. I got the Charleston Belle sweet pepper from them and Carolina Cayenne, they are both doing great!

I'm in 9b, border of Lutz & Tampa. I'm glad to learn I can still plant seeds. A few pepper & onion seeds didn't take. Going to reseed now. Thanks for all this info. Also I haven't seen any videos on wildflowers in a while. I think this is the time to grow milkweed, I'm not really sure. Would like a winter version of wildflower care & seed collection. Thanks again

I had some pepper plants the were nothing but stems and thought they were goners somehow I overlooked pulling them out and they surprised me by growing anyway 🤣 Also, was going over this year garden notes and was sort of deflated by how many failures were noted that’s when I decided to look at the glass half full because overall the wins were more than the losses. All happened in the new Florida zone 10a… keep sowing and growing girl 😊

According to the Florida Department of Ag you shouldn’t plant strawberries until December in zone 10a. The ones I’ve planted this month are all thriving. The ones I planted earlier all died.

Do an experiment and fertilize some and not others. If you use organic granular ,that takes a long time to break down it will take too long. in these colder months. Try some fish emulsion or something that would be faster. Compost tea, or simply some good granular man made fertilizer.

I love romaine and oak leaf lettuce. I had great luck last year in Miami-Dade (zone 10b). They lasted me for a few month doing cut-and-come-again. No peppers will grow for me. I have tried green, banana peppers, and a few others. Could possibly be the iguanas eating the flowers off the plants.

I'm in the miani dade area (zone 11a). I have two years trying to grow peppers, mostly bell peppers. I purchased a jalapeno and bell pepper plant from Home Depot. Pepper plants produced like 5 very small peppers 😂. Did your peppers plants ever got this weird white powder on it?

Agree about oakleaf lettuce 👍🙌 For Miami try Cubanelle and Aji Dulce peppers. Aji peppers are from the Caribbean and thrive even in the summer. Put them in a semi shade down there. About 4 hours of sun.
